Wines in Whanganui: Rusty copper colour. Fine bead. Vibrant but mineral nose of raspberries, red cherries, lemon citrus and river gravels. Limited toasty autolysis. In the mouth, fresh and persistent, very 2008. Blood orange, grapefruit, raspberries, dried apricots and river gravel. Secondary, savoury notes just beginning to develop. Fine and taut. Below mid weight but not lacking in depth and concentration. Lengthy dry finish. Drinking at its best until about 2032. 93+.

Another fantastic Champagne - seem to have been on a roll recently. Spry, sherberty nose, with white flowers and some chalkiness; but the main action was on the palate. Such a wonderful cocktail of summer fruits - including apricot, a note I haven't had in Champagne before - held in check by the underlying tangy freshness of the 2008 vintage non-rose that forms 85% of this wine. I'm left with the impression that the blending and dosage were spot-on here - just so moreish and delicious.

Very vinous in character with 15% “en rouge”, or still wine, from Ambonnay, Bouzy, & Cumieres. A lot of structure and body, and a candidate as a red meat, Champagne pairing.

Drank this on a warm weekend and this bottle disappeared very quickly. Pretty salmon color, easy to drink strawberry. Didn't find much beneath the fruit but the bubbles were fine and finish very nice. I did try to let it warm and air out in the Glasvin but I also was multitasking with the grill.

A pretty peach color with a bright shine and a somewhat sparse and tranquil mousse. Fantastic bouquet of tropical, orchard, and melon fruit and some added florals with light hints of baked lemon/orange muffin. Wonderful weight and texture in the mouth and wow!, major depth and persistence to the flavors. Might be the longest finish I’ve experienced in a sparkler... it still haunts me the next day ;) 4+13+18+9= 94

Excellent today, and plenty of structure, and fruit, to clearly signal an even more brilliant future. An unbelievably good value that ticks every box. I wish I had dozens. A wow wine that drinks at a level of twice its price. highly recommended
I'm putting this at the top of the excellent scale, even if the flavors were a bit unitary. I really loved the crystalline grapefruit pizzazz, along with great bead. Just remarkable how clean and refreshing each taste was. It didn't need to be a kaleidoscope to dazzle. Just make sure not to serve too chilled. Excellent.

I was positively surprised by this one; balanced, good length and those hints of the fruit being slightly more red than one is expecting. I would love to see this one evolve more as it is quite linear as of now. Have a few more, and will save them for a few more years.

Mixed Wines at Martina (Martina, Mpls): Medium strawberry red color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. This has more power, weight and depth, but still maintains a deftness across the palate. I like the toast on this too, more red berry fruit with chalk to the minerality but still comes acrosss very balanced for my taste. I liked this bottle a lot more even than the one at the holiday party a month ago, but this got much more of a pour and observation. I think the '08's Rose's across the board will beneft from a couple years too.

Light salmon color. Drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. The nose has a lot so bread dough up frint with plenty of raspberry and strawberry fruit and mineral notes. This is larger scaled on the palate, plenty of fruit and weight with a noticeable structure, cherry, biscuit, more chalky. Very good, more bold than elegant at least for now.

Ripe fruit and ample minerality, this struck me as much better than another bottle tasted couple weeks ago. That other bottle from a different batch, wondering if there’s bottle variation across the production or if we were just unlucky with an underwhelming (but not terrible) bottle. In any case, this was showing well and was a fine rose.

Nice body and depth, with an effervescence that needed a little time in the glass to settle down before this really started singing. Black cherry, unripe plum, rose petals, crema, purple Skittles, and lemon zest. Some nice rounded edges after two hours of air. Medium-bodied overall, with beautiful balance and weight. A nice push of fruit without being heavy at all. Great lift and no oxidative characteristics. Spritely and fun.
I’ll hold remaining bottles for another year.

Was saving this for a special occasion, but found myself tonight kind of tired, stressed, etc., and needed to turn that frown upside down. So pop went the cork. Color is much darker than expected -- gorgeous deep shade of pink that could easily pass for a Kir Royale.
A totally complete brut rose -- attack is fruity and refreshing, with just a hint of chalkiness, and a mouthful of the proverbial "tiny bubbles". Grapefruit, peach, lemon, strawberry, and buttered naan. Long, long juicy finish. Both delicious and memorable. Probably at or near peak.
Very impressive wine. It is clearly a very sweet expression of rose but still has an ample backbone to back up the fruit. Great acidity and huge drinkability. Could improve with 2-5 years of age but why wait. It simply tastes amazing right now!

Clearly needs more time to develop, tho I wonder how far it will go. The sweet fruit is elegant with the structure in typical Pol Roger style but it just feels unredeemed at the moment. In the Brut Vintage -08 I tried a couple of weeks ago the potential was very much more evident than this one.

This is a top Pol Rosé, in my opinion. Rusty copper colour. Fine bead, persistent mousse. A lovely nose of strawberries, lemon zest, cherries, iron minerals and lemon tea. A touch of toast but not a lot of autolysis evident. On palate, real Pinot character. Blood oranges, raspberries, minerals and cherries. Savoury soil and dry brush undertones. Seemingly, low dosage. Bone dry. Refreshing, racy acidity. Good power but medium weight, only. Chiselled, elegant and fine. A Champagne that calls for food. I'd like to see it with a little development in 4-5+ years.

Quite a deep salmon pink. Rich aroma, slightly toasty, lots of iron. Initially surprisingly high acidity, which mellows with air into a nice round caramel flavour. Blood orange fruit. Delicious, but not quite as powerful or complex as I'd hoped. Still excellent. [Cork + cage; 12.5% abv; Master of Malt, £68.77].

Stunningly attractive deep rose salmon. Moderately closed nose at this stage but dominant red wine notes of Ambonnay restrained power, but I get traces of Bouzy musk as well.
Palate is stunning, creamy and restrained power, with lovely fruit length and depth, gently firm , dosage about 8-10 g/l (?) but overall great balance.
This is the most powerful and yet most complex and satisfying Pol Roger rosé I have seen for decades. A great wine for enjoying with food now, and plenty of future development potential.

Quite dark in the glass. This is a wonderful rosé. Lot of flavour, acid and fizz. I think a little more time would do it well as it really didn't start to show for 30-60 minutes after opening. Cherry notes became something more.

Great nose of strawberry, cherry, raspberry, chalk and creme patissiere. It is full, rich and powerful. A sizeable Champagne but one that is extremely well balanced and possessing a high degree of finesse. Length is fantastic and it is a superb food wine.

Young and lifted rose. Strawberries and dried roses dominate the nose. Same comes through on the palate together with mix of red fruits. Hints of developed notes. Wine gets only better with time in the glass. Great overall balance. Very good concentration and spine. Finish is fine also. Lovely already. Promising for sure. Next bottle in 2-3 years. 91-92p for now.

Sthlm Food & Wine Champagne-tastings; 11/11/2016-11/12/2016 (Stockholmsmässan): The perfect 2008 vintage makes its notes on the palate calling for extra cellaring, but the nose even though it’s youthful it already shows lovely intensity. Light red colour. Youthful nose with red berries, charcuterie and minerals. Palate shows lots of potential and with a very nice structure of cherries and with a very long lasting finish. This feels like it will be very good with cellaring and probably will turn into magic in 15-20 years. 89p right now, but with lots of potential!

A bit weak on the nose but nice notes of read berries and lime. The palate is also weak and thin. Again red berries and now lots of bitter grapefruit. I like a hint of grapefruit but here it is dominating and the other fruity notes are just not enough to smooth the impression. Finishes fairly short. Not a bad champagne, but a dissapointment considering the usual high quality from Pol Roger and the reputation of the 2008 vintage. I hope the regular 2008 Vintage is better.

Quite unbalanced upon opening. Nose and palate did not match at all and like Elvis describes it feels like drinking two different wines at the same time.
After some time in the glass the wine delevoped nicely. Boiled pasta, almond icing, red currant and rhubarb pie on the nose. Steely acid on the palate with clean fruit structure. A bit young at the moment but still satisfying. However, I must say that my experience tonight did not match my expectations (2008 vintage and producer). A good wine but too pricy at this level. Really hope that the wine will improve with some cellaring to match the price tag.

Pink color. Nose shows raspberries, grapefruit with acacia honey and nice toasty notes. Good balance and length. the wine is suffering a bit from the high dosage which makes it a bit of everybody's darling. Still a very good rose and a prime example of the superb 2008 vintage.

Started off with a bang! Cork came out as soon as the cage came off. Typical vintage cork.
Pours a salmon rose. Bubbles are super prominent.
Yeast and straw nose, definite acidic tones, red apple.
Older red fruit on the palate, very acidic still. Bubble are super aggressive, almost immediately foams when hitting the palate.

Elegant. Salmon colored beautiful intense nutty almond with sour cherry - dry fruit subtle thoroughly enjoyed on a hot summer night cooling down to 85 degrees F.

This is so good. All blood orange and ruby red grapefruit, with a pleasing interplay of sweet and sour notes. Wonderful zesty attack with good density and length. Drinking well.

Salmon pink colour. Strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Taste of strawberries, raspberries and butter. Fruity and round taste with a fresh finish. Goes well with fish, grilled salmon or sushi. May also work with fruit based desserts.

2017 K&L Annual Champagne Tasting (K&L San Francisco Store): K&L Champagne Event 2017, nose of mandarin orange, Asian Pear, iron, mums, and brioche, same on the palate, lovely to sip and savor, big body, rich, mouth filling fruit, very tasty, terrific Rose Champagne, and long, flavorful finish.

From memory.
