2014 Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve. At $14 from Last Bottle, this is way up there in my all-time QPR list. Mature orchard fruit and nimble acid on day 1; on day 2 the wine filled out a bit more and there was a pleasant bitter note on the finish (admittedly at the expense of a touch of acid). Be sure to serve at cellar temp on Day 2, which will keep the bitter note in check. Really lovely. Drink now or hold through 2026.

The bottle seems to be descending into a more bitter version of its earlier self. There are still elements of the Alsatian glories of the past, but they are fading.
Such a nice wine. Golden yellow, flavors of apple, citrus with such perfectly balanced acidity. Went great with smoked pork tenderloin with roasted artichoke hearts, fennel, Kalamata olives and cherry tomatoes.
Perfect pairing; felt like I was back in Strausborg!

Tonight my wife made Boursin chicken. It was marvelous. We drank a light Gamay from Loire. It went well. Then I noticed an almost full bottle of the 2014 Trimbach. Oh, no! I am really bummed. But I have been married 38 years and have never slept on the couch. Not once. I know my priorities. I’ll drink a glass or two tomorrow. And I won’t complain.

Fuller bodied Pinot gris with lovely nose of stone fruit, floral notes and citrus. On the palate pear, apple, lime and a delicate minerality. A lovely pinot gris that has an elegance but could still support a variety of mains and appetizers. It is especially nice with fish, from an oiler black cod to a delicate halibut. Medium long finish, clean and crisp with a slight touch of sweetness.

Elegant, expressive, well balanced and with plenty of depth. Begins with aromas of peach, lemon zest and a salinity reminiscent of a sea breeze. Excellent balance on the pallate with lemon, pear & a tinge of sweetness and slatey minerality through a surprisingly long finish. That bit of sweetness made this quite a nice pairing with homemade general tso's chicken! ($22) [1/18/22]

My little group of virtual wine tasters insisted on a mid-summer gathering so I picked some real beauties, starting with this Pinot Gris which we tasted at room temp and chilled. Being a Reserve, it offered depth and complexity that many were not expecting- it was a hit. In the glass it showed pale gold to light yellow, depending on who was commenting! Aromas of pear, pineapple, blossom, honey, ginger, elderflower and nectarine were noted. On the palate, flavors of honeysuckle, lime, and orange blossom coupled with a vegetal aftertaste. I noted that it had good acidity, getting 92 points from yours truly.
The chilled version was more precise with some minerality on the nose coupled with cotton candy, marzipan, passion fruit, honey, ginger and peach- a whole different animal! On the palate we got a fuller bodied wine with flavors of pronounced orange, less lime this time but lemon drops, ginger and Welch’s white grape juice. Medium (+) finish btw. I was consistent with the 92 points and for $25 it is a great intro to a higher quality Pinot Gris. 5 stars, pair it with shellfish and perhaps cellar for a few years.
The wine showed citrus and minerality notes; it was typically Alsatian. More acidic than I remember it. We had this with appetizers rather than with a meal. Would have been better with the fish dinner. I brought to dinner at K&H's.

A deep gold wine with lemon and cantaloupe on the nose, and something else we can't quite identify that adds complexity. Maybe hay? We don't spend enough time on farms to say for sure.
On the palate, it's got richness and some complexity. Jessie would also call it unusual, not having tasted many wines like this. It's zesty and dry, medium bodied, med+ acidity.
We made a tarte flambée to go with this Alsatian wine, and it was a fantastic pairing. (The tarte is really easy to make, too, if you're curious.)

Pale gold. On the nose medium intensity aromas of lemon, tangerine, hay, wet grass, citrus peel. On the palate the wine is dry with medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, and medium plus intensity flavors of lemon, tangerine, minerality, salinity, citrus peel. The finish is long. This is an outstanding wine demonstrating balanced between the acidity and fruit intensity. There is medium intensity on the nose rising to medium plus on the palate. The aromas and flavors are complex with citrus fruit, citrus peel, salinity, minerality, and pleasant herbal notes. The finish is long and pleasing. This wine could age another 5 years but is just beautiful now.

This is flat out gorgeous. The nose is elegantly restrained and complex, with aromas of lychees, gooseberries, and apples that display nuances of caramel, almonds, and marzipan. The palate is taut, honeyed, and sleek, and displays classic Alsatian depth, weight, and minerality. Lemon and orchard fruit flavors are cut by acidic tension and a dusting of white pepper. Outstanding and has the bones to age too.

Classic Alsatian PG nose with honeyed peach, honeysuckle and a touch of petrol. A lot of mineral driven notes on the palate but not quite gravely. More limestone than anything. Apple tart and acidic finish.

Terroir-istes International - France, Alsace Pinot Gris & Gewurztraminer (Cape Town Law offices): "(Tasted Blind): Mid yellow-gold colour. Lifted with some evolution showing almond paste, ripe apricot and kerosene. Medium intense palate, the wine has a racy acidity, taur and linear character, with a dry and fresh finish. There is some savoury nuances with attractive melon, spiciness and green fruit medley. However, as the wine opened further I picked up a combination of a button mushroom note, and some wood smoke with a mouldy element, possibly due to the presence of Sotolon. Tricky to score as went downhill rapidly.

13.5% alcohol, from Ribeauville, Alsace; imported by Esprit du Vin, Boca Raton, FL; composite cork, light foil; fast legs, light crystalline yellow; tasted at ca 14 degrees C, nose is a fresh tartness; taste of metal, earth; but there is something in the background that is not so good -- perhaps a minerality; the finish is short

MNB: Free-for-All (Home (Noe st)): (non-blind - my wine) Medium yellow color - pinot gris has thicker skins. Slight RS - 7-10g. Neutral nose - showing hints of underripe peach and slight generic esters. On the palate, there's a faint hint of honey - possible botrytis. Medium body, slightly elevated alcohol - 13.5%, with medium acid and medium phenolic bitterness.
This is a neutral white, possibly semiterpenic. Laterals would be Smaragd gruner, Alsace Pinot Gris, and Pinot Grigio, but the neutrality of the nose and presence of residual sugar argue for Alsace Pinot Gris.
Based on the color and lack of overt age, I'm guessing this is a recent vintage - 2014?

Pale straw yellow color. Somewhat restrained and waxy nose with aromas of sweet white fruits, cantaloupe, some ripe citrus notes, a little bit of spice and a hint of honey. Compared to the usual, expressive style of Trimbach PG Reserve, this one feels a bit closed. The wine is medium-bodied somewhat oily on the palate with moderately high acidity. There are quite powerful and somewhat waxy flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some honeydew melon, a little bit of sweet white peach, a hint of beeswax and a touch of red apples. The finish is long and spicy with flavors of tangy green apples, beeswax, some white peach, a little bit of cantaloupe, a hint of honey and a touch of steely minerality.
Like always, this is a very serious, structured and well-made Pinot Gris. However, this vintage doesn't seem to have the richness, intensity and that sheer wow-factor this wine can attain in best vintages. Now this feels like a big and structured Pinot Gris, but still far from the top. I can imagine this wine will gain some richness and further honeyed tones with age, but this will never be among the top vintages of this wine.

Pale straw yellow color. Ripe, youthful and fruity nose with sweet-toned aromas of apple jam, some floral tones, a little bit of juicy stone fruits and a hint of cantaloupe. The wine is quite dry, mineral and relatively crunchy for a Pinot Gris with medium body yet somewhat oily mouthfeel typical of the variety. There are youthful and surprisingly fresh and sappy flavors of stony minerality, tart citrus fruits, some tangy green apple tones, light white peach notes, hints of borderline underripe white fruit and a touch of spicy red apple. Overall the wine is enjoyably high in acidity. The rather long finish is refreshing, bright and quite acid-driven with youthful, lively flavors of tangy citrus fruits like key lime and lemon, some grapefruity tones, a little bit of chalky mineral bitterness, light green apple tones, a hint of cantaloupe and a touch of beeswax.
A surprisingly lean, mineral and fresh vintage of Trimbach's Pinot Gris Reserve. Showing good freshness and intensity with quite well-integrated residual sugar sweetness, this feels both somewhat promising yet still underwhelming an effort. Normally this wine feels much weightier, more concentrated and richer in flavor yet still retaining the fresh acidity and minerality typical of the house, this wine is certainly fresh and mineral, but lacking a bit of the oomph I look for in this wine - instead making it well-made, but perhaps a bit pedestrian in style. However, the wine might pick up some additional weight with age, so perhaps a few years in a cellar might help?

Color is medium gold with silver and green flecks, starting to show signs of development.
Nose is medium to medium minus intensity. Fruit is fresh yellow apple/white peach. There's a sea spray/salinity element and a slight hint of almond.
Almond is more present on the palate. Med plus body with med/med plus acidity. Fruit notes the same as the nose. Hint of spice on the finish.
Such a good QPR for an ageable white wine. This could definitely go a few more years, but is delicious now, and pairs with any number of foods.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/7/2019-3/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Nice start to the meal. It's very fresh with good acidity. Settles in with some time in the glass. Lots of floral notes. Some white flowers. Very flavorful and very balanced.

Fresh nose with nutmeg spice and pears. Fleshy, full of minerals, some zing to the texture. Salty. Notes of limestone and pears. I love Alsace whites, regardless of varietal.

A: Clear, medium lemon
N: Pear, almonds, pastry, lemon
P: Nose confirmed with added fennel, smoke and even more almonds. dry, high acid, medium alcohol, medium body.
MY GUESS:
Old world, cool climate , Alsace pinot gris. Powerful presence of almonds is ALWAYS pinot gris for me.

MNB: Free-for-All (Home (Noe st)): (non-blind - my wine)
Medium yellow color - pinot gris has thicker skins.
13.5% Trimbach 2014 pinot gris reserve

A visit to Maison Trimbach; 3/10/2017-3/11/2017 (Alsace, France): Light golden in color. The nose is peach and pears. On the palate, this is broad. Slight acidity. The peaches carry thru. Apples show up on the finish. Nice minerality. A very solid wine.

10 g/l residual sugar.
