2017 base (2011-2017 perpetual reserve), my second of two bottles. I understand that some people have had mixed success with bottles from this domaine, but I just love this cuvee. For me, it has a lovely, broad and oxidative character without being overly rich or heavy that you don't want to have more than a few glasses. I'm not sure if this is more about a house stye or the perpetual reserve, but I'm a big fan. Really solid value for me at $65.

Logged this in as the 2019, although it's a perpetual back to 2011. October 2021 disgorgement, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay without dosage.. Has the golden hue that I often find in the R-L wines. Aromatics are cool, evocative. My initial reaction when I first opened it was white pepper and a little brown spice, but I suspect that the subjectivity factor of some other smart tasters could find some different things that I just cant identify. In the end, I just dig how it smells. The palate has some of the R-L oxidative style, with an apple pie filling character. Then, sweet lime, blood orange, cranberry, finishing with a nice salty lemony mix that is cleansing. These wines attract me, and yet I know they can polarize and some smart people I drink with just think they can be weird or not to their taste.

It’s got a nice, oxidative, appley nose which reminds of E Brochet’s Mont Benoit. Some salinity as well. Palate was crisp and juicy, and the acid was almost cutting. They really wanted to drive home the fact that it’s brut nature. Interesting stuff for the current going price.

Retail $65. 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. Biodynamic. Aged in oak foudres and stainless steel. We were in Austin, at one of the "hottest restaurants in town" and we opted for this cuvée from a grower in Essoyes in the Aube. While we were not entirely sure the hype for the restaurant was deserved (it was fine, but nothing more, and certainly not worthy of the price), this champagne was certainly the highlight. Made from a perpetual reserve, it is close to golden in the glass with intense lemon and a healthy brioche, a hint of hazelnut, and even a dose of minerality. Whoa. The palate is, understandably, quite tart, but the fruit certainly holds its own as does the yeasty, brioche component. Yowza. Outstanding. 94 Points.
The aromatics here were wild — figuratively and literally. I found this interesting and nuances, nicely open structure and somewhat oxidative notes coupled with more red fruit than yellow, but the striking aroma was more interesting than enjoyable - and felt more “off” than anything else. Really wanted to love this cuvée, and still might given how much I enjoyed the bottle despite everything, but the Fosse Grely tasted alongside it was much more out together at present.

Lunch at auberge de lucinges in haute Savoie - warmly recommended. Lemon medium color. Roasted pineapple, mandarines, wet stones and sweet vanilla on the nose. High acidity, med body, med alcohol, Med flavor intensity and med finish. Still high in acidity, green apple, lemon zest, nice salinity, lingering quite long. Excellent to open up the appetite and this will evolve nicely over the coming years. No rush needed to open this stallion.

12% alcohol. PN and C in unspecified proportions. This is the 11-17 version. Zero dosage. Disgorged October 2019. Sustained golden colour. The fizz is not abundant, but it has good persistance and the bubbles are very fine. Lovely nose evoking yellow plum and dried flowers. The mouth has great freshness and directness. Only in the final does the complete lack of dosage produce a marked austerity. Priced at 42€, which is not unreasonable for the area, but far from good value in absolute terms. Not sure about repurchasing, as this is not a wine that can be served to the uninitiated. I must admit that I would myself have preferred a 2g/L dosage (that or riper musts).

This one was for Maena <3 Absolutely delish. If you like solera/vinous champagne, this is for you. I would personally buy it by the case if I could. Our bottle was "11, 12, 13...19"; disgorged October 2021. Blend of pinot noir & chardonnay. Organic wine.
Good but not great. The color is a rich orangish gold. Fine mousse. The nose is top notch: brown butter, brioche and ripe peach. Looking good. Wonderful mouthfeel yet the flavor depth just isn’t there. The nose promised more. Again, good just not special. (90)

A perpetual blend from 2011-2017, disgorged October 2019. Roasted and spiced apples on the nose, it starts off with sour apple and a bit of nuttiness. Some fruit pushes through, but the finish still dominates. An interesting champagne.

‘Solera’ from 2011-2018 vintages, disgorged Oct ‘20, zero dosage. 50/50 PN and Chard. Small producer from south-east Aube, bio dynamic. Slightly reddish in color w fine mousse. Aromas of red apple and citrus. Blood orange, bruoche notes. Mineral and precise. Wine clearly reflects the red clay - limestone soil. Interesting and well made

Wow did this bottle surprise me immensely! INSANE QPR! Slightly orange/red/rosé tint in the otherwise quite golden color.
Very oxidized on the nose with red berries and red apple. Some pickled lemon, honey, apricot and lots of oak coming through as well.
Palate follows with red apple, strawberry, lemon, butter, oak, citrus and awesome minerality. Brut Nature and full of acidity yet it's almost fat and creamy in texture.
Wow this bottle was even better than my previous experience. Base vintage 2015 and disgorged september 2017, this bottle had very oxidative notes but still was really fresh and seductive. Mature cheese blends in with baked or even dried red apple, grilled lemon, burnt fudge, powdered sugar, and butter biscuit, moves over to very clear pinot noir notes of cherry and raspberry. This is really like a nice Jura white (I’m a big fan of Jura wine!) but with pinot noir blent in, and of course bubbles. The bubbles are quite subdued though, in many ways this wine felt more mature than its age but only to its benefit.

Oct 2019 disgorgement. 11, 12, 13... is a 'réserve perpétuelle' started in 2011 using grapes from the domaine's different plots. After an initial élevage in oak the reserve wines are kept in cuve and mixed little by little, the blend spends 18 to 20 months in bottle on lees.
I was expecting something interesting, even funky from this one given the above and the prior reviews, but it came across as overly well-mannered, even boring - like a slightly dryer version of a Taittinger NV without bottle age. Elegant, drank nicely, didn't taste of much. Oh well.

I think I liked this less this time. This is reminiscent of the Jose Michel Pere Houdart if you've had that and are wondering the character of it. This time it was more like apple vinegar. It's interesting to see how the solera performs here because it comes of as much more mature than other Champagnes that I've tried with reserve or solera wine in the mix. Excepting the Houdart as mentioned. The over build is good. The wine doesn't seem less than fresh. It's just the way the greatest expression is. You don't really get any overt oxidation. Just that sort of wine-y vinegar sort of thing. I'm wondering if it would ever work all that well for me without it being a smaller addition to a bigger fruited wine. I certainly didn't hate this but as Champagne it seems a bit out of bounds.

After being open for two hours, in bottle, this came together and showed best. No notes taken. Overall, very enjoyable. Nice blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. No obvious oxidative notes. This will do well for years to come. 91-93.

Note: Last vintage included is 2017. 40% Chardonnay/60% Pinot Noir.
Appearance: Medium Gold
Nose: Pronounced nose of crisp apples and grapefruits backed by flaky pastry dough and yogurt. Underneath it all, there's a hint of oxidation (perhaps coming from the older vintages?) contributing notes of caramelized almonds.
Structure: Dry, high acid, medium alcohol, with a light body.
Palate: Medium+ Intensity. An immediate burst of crisp apples and grapefruits gives way to flavors of flaky pastry dough. There's a nervy undercurrent of ginger and almond keeping this interesting. Finish is relatively long. I noted that the wine smelled more oxidized than it tasted, if that makes any sense.

Not my style I think. It might be that I just don’t like solera style champagne that much. Very yeast and had that raw rice bag smell which I’m not the biggest fan of. There was some fruit behind it, but it was hard for me to enjoy with the autolytic intensity.

A private lunch (Wine Bar 4850, Amsterdam, NL): Cuvée perpetuelle 2011-2017, disgorged October 2019. Beautifully frank yet complex style, intense and terroir driven but with ripe fruit to back it up, and complexing yeasty and savoury notes. Really excellent, continues to live up to the hype.

Nose showing sharp tangerine like notes. Then dry toast. The palate feel is nice and clean. Even from fruit to acid for the most part but there is a sharpness to the fruit. And some sherry like notes. Like ripeness in addition to the solera stylings. The flavors are just up to the point of being overdone. Like very wine-y. Maybe the solera is pushing it in terms of fermentation. But the build is fresh so it goes down easy enough. This is nerdy. I'm not certain I really dig this for lots of repeat viewings. I am interested in trying more from this house.

What a delicious champagne! I love this style of complex and evolved and at the same time dry and fresh. A lot of things going on - lemon, grapefruit, ginger, red apple, orange rind and salty minerality. The mousse is such a delicate but persistent one. This is a masterpiece of an entry level Champagne! Mix of 2011-2016 in a perpetual Solera process. Mostly chardonnay with some Pinot Noir. 4000 bottles Pours Medium Gold Nose is really open and expressive. Orange rind, white flowers, pu-erh tea, ginger, sweet spice, green mango, and wet stone. Palate has lovely tension...there are rich flavours of mango cream, green apple, flowers, spice, white grapefruit and orange zest but cut by wonderful acid....the tension in this champagne is really striking. Finish is really complex and quite unique...the interplay between the clear lack of dosage and rich creamy fruit is beguiling. This is wine with bubbles...quite cerebral...but very nice. For champagne lovers who want some thing a touch different.

Medium gold with some brassy hints, fine slow bubbles. Just a tiny hint of bruised apple/pear richness on the nose over cool spring water, citrus zest, coconut and white flowers. Ripping acidity that shoots go the cheeks and then back down the tongue. Grapefruit, persimmon, white peach, key lime. All the pieces are good but missing something to tie them together.

A private pre-Christmas Dinner with Friends (at home): Very individualistic aromatics, wonderfully expressive, bitter orange and unripe mango, jasmin and elderflower, sweet spices, fresh and minerally but smooth and silky in spite of the lack of dosage, lovely tension and energy, excellent resonance and length.

2017 base. Bright lemon, citrus, green apple, and brioche on the nose. Medium-high acidity with lots of minerals, lemon, grapefruit, and crushed rocks on the palate. Very tart and fresh with just a hint of richness on the nose. Good finish.

After being open for two hours, in bottle, this came together and showed best. No notes taken. Overall, very enjoyable. Nice blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. No obvious oxidative notes. This will do well for years to come. 91-93.

Good but the Fosse Grely release was better. 12%

From memory, drank yesterday. Chard and Pinot solera, no dose, farmed organic. Lots of acid alongside plenty of fleshy texture. Another good glass of bubbly.

Elegant in its balance and fine mousse, yet full of character. Seamless. Toasty mineral finish.

Base vintage 2016 disgorged october 2018

Dry and crisp with fine mousse. Lemon, green apple, apple peel, wet stone, floral notes. Perpetual solera cuvée. Unbelievably good price to quality ratio.

Mix of 2011-2016 in a perpetual Solera process. Mostly chardonnay with some Pinot Noir. 4000 bottles
Pours Medium Gold
Nose is really open and expressive.

Expressive nose of mature golden apple, pears, brioche, really lively mousse, with a more citrus rind fruit feel on the palate nice flavors on the finish albeit a bit on the quick side

Solera, but not oxidative. More like a very aged white burg. ie pontinet ampeau. White flowers, yellow flowers, cognac. Middling to lower quality

Cracking stuff.

OK, quite natural style of champagne, with no sulfur (I believe) and no dosage. Rather dry, unformed, and a darkish yellow hue. Skip. 2014 disgorgement.
