Red fruits, herbs, and spice with great acidity. Quite good and drinking great right now. Had another bottle 2/18/24 - the juvenile is one of the greatest bargains around. Similar notes to 1/9/24 -delicious!

blackberry, gravel, buttercream. This wine is plush, but lacks much character at this stage. Good acid, alcohol in check (this is admittedly a feat for Turley), fine grain tannins. Overall good balance and drinks very well, just not much complexity.

I thought about giving this the "dreaded 89," but frankly I've had the reflection of a 24 hour period since tasting this and have been a bit influenced by the notes of our Community. An enjoyable Zin, with lots of fruit, particularly plums and blueberries. A bit unbalanced at first but then opened up. Always a consistent wine, and the Juvenile has a particularly good QPR. This appears to be hitting its peak, so would recommend not letting it continue to cellar for more than another year or so.

Wow these Turley Juvenile's age beautifully. Glad I never opened this till tonight. At $30 these are good values with age.
Once again fruit forward with an immediate whiff of aged berry which I am thinking is blueberry. In mouth the wine is a bit of a letdown. I get mushroom, and tar and a brief glimpse of cherry fruit. It is in the mid palette and finish that this wine shines. Lingering complex mix of earth and cherry and then iron and tobacco leaf. Fruits are faded but man this aged beautifully.

This is maturing faster than it should. Just a touch ahead of turning pruney, I'm a bit surprised as other recent vintages ('13/'14) didn't do that at this stage. Definitely will look to get through my remaining bottle soon. Red garnet coloring and fruit, sat a touch heavy and flabby in the glass. Grill wine (per usual)

Right in the zone. Delivering the zinberry we look for. This seemed to be a good spot, not as hard an edge as the '13s and '14s have so I think they'll be earlier drinkers. Will look to enjoy over the next year or so. Red raspberry, solid core.

That, that, that! Get it? Say “that” fast three times. Let’s face it, that’s why I was in finance my whole life and why I’m writing a wine blog instead of being up on a comedy stage.
That aside, my title is relevant as I have noticed that I have been re-reviewing some wines I wrote about a couple of years ago; like the Laberinto "Cenizas de Laberinto" Sauvignon Blanc 2019, more recently the 2015 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon, or maybe the Matetic Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc EQ Coastal 2019. For this post, I again stand ready to re-review a wine previously reviewed the Turley Zinfandel Juvenile 2015.
Interestingly, the Juvenile, like a few of my other recent reviews, is also a blend, of sorts! Coming from sometimes as many as 18 different vineyards, of their 50 or so, to make up this stellar wine from this iconic producer.
As reviewed before, the wine brings forth aromas of bright berry fruit and continues that theme unto your palate. Bright cherry notes along with a trace of darker fruit to heighten the experience. It is soft throughout, tannins adding only a smattering of an edge. The wine trails off on that softer note as well leaving a touch of spice in its wake. For those looking for a more “gutsy” type of Zin, you need only search out any of their single-vineyard wines, with the reputation of the winery, you can’t go wrong. The Juvenile is a solid wine and pairs well with many dishes.
Cheers

Decanted 1+ hours. Just can't seem to escape that annoying overripe, pruny aroma that you get in many Turley Zins. Once you get past that the palate offers nice brambley raspberry fruit. Decent finish, but with a little heat.

This has settled into a nice place. A bit wild and harsh when first released, this offers a dense ruby hue and lots of plums, spice and hillside brush on the palate with a relatively short finish — for a Turley, at least. Not one of the more remarkable Juveniles. But still a solid value and a great introduction to the prodigious Turley lineup. Worth Seeking Out.
Turley's 2015 Juvenile is a deep ruby wine that flaunts a core of dark bramble fruits, baking spices, espresso, licorice and black pepper. Full-bodied, fresh and somehow keeping its 15.5% alcohol in check, it has good lift, excellent mid-palate density, soft oak, sweet tannins and a lengthy finish. This should be at its best over the next three years. Drink now-2022.

Camphor on the nose. On the palate, rich red, black, and blue fruit, slightly jammy; notes of black pepper and some classic Zinfandel brambliness on the short to medium finish, with moderate to good acidity. This may be the best Juvenile I have had - I think it's more complex than other vintages I have tried. It's a good value at about $35.

Dark ruby turning to purple. The nose is brimming with blueberries, licorice, oak, spices and sweet cherries. In the mouth the wine has medium acidity, medium tannins and medium high alcohol. The taste is full on fruit with loads and loads of blueberries, cherries, licorice and black pepper. The wine is full body. The mid palate is dense with very concentrated fruits with a medium finish a little sweet. Overall the alcohol while high on the bottle does not heat in the mouth. A very tasty zin and good value. Still can go on for a few years.

A brief note following some large and big time Chardonnay wines tasted tonight but here goes.
Fruit forward and notes of blueberry and cherry. Brief glimpses of forest floor richness but quickly fades as tannin overwhelms and fruit Re-emerges. Definitely complex but shallow experience. I have had better Turley zin's but given price it is certainly worth its weight.

Sorry Larry but this bottle was missing something. I'm not sure the bottle was corked correctly as the cork popped out pretty quickly. The nose and the taste, while having some fruit, had the backbone of a little too much air. I think I have just south of a dozen bottles of this wine left so I will without further comment until my next bottle.

As always, a solid wine and one of the better zin values out there, but I felt this bottle was not quite as integrated as the 2014 was around the same age. Nice red brambly fruits and spice, but the oak still sticks out a little too much. Probably give my remaining bottles another 6 months or so before checking back in.

How on earth do they do this year in and year out? The 2014 was the best Juvie I'd ever had, and a tough act to follow. This vintage is just as good; time will tell whether it's even a bit better. Signature Turley apricot, black pepper, licorice, raspberry jam, clay, black cherry. Finishes super long with a mild burn which I think is part from the etoh, but mostly from the brambly tannins, which will probably take a few years to shed. Should last a decade or so and peak about a third of the way in. 92+ and room to improve.

Vibrant ripe red fruit, strawberry jam, pepper, bramble, bug spray and a velvetty sweet finish. Won a 48-taster contest by a landslide. Only medium bodied, but next day leftovers put on a considerable amount of weight and the bug spray element was gone.

Patio dinner with the gang, and, as always, a hit with everyone. This has settled down nicely since last tasted. Really nice Zin for $27. We paired it with a cream pasta filled with shrimp and scallops and it was empty before the bowls were clean. Very approachable with a shortish finish but so well balanced that I'll be buying a lot more. It could use some time in the cellar to mature and start to show more complexity but it's drinking great right now too.

Crimson in color. 15.5% ABV. Sweet nose of red fruits, brown sugar, earth and pepper. Rich, lush and exceptionally well balanced. Full bodied with medium acidty. Raspberry liqueur, cherries and white pepper on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. This really goes down easy and certainly outperforms the $20 price point. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Sitting on the back porch and enjoying this fine and remarkably priced Turley. I always love the juveniles. Light, soft, and sexy berry nose. Just kind of teases you. After an hour decant, strawberry and blackberry fruit, but pleasantly refined and delicious. Medium finish. Enjoy!

A bit of sulfites on the nose. Palate has excellent thrust. Very clean and juicy, almost citrusy. Excellent balance, alcohol shouldn't be an issue for most palates. A fine vintage for this cuvée.

Fruit forward, but elegant. Strawberries, cherries, with a hint of baking spices on the nose. Very smooth palate to match the nose. A subtle savory note on the finish that is almost reminiscent of curry powder. Medium body and medium acidity. This is a wine snob's summer bbq wine.

Liquid indulgence. As one would expect, this exploded out of the gate with bursts of very ripe fruit, exotic spices, and not a shred of subtlety – but then, why else would you drink Zin? Turley knows Zinfandel, and it shows. The young vines providing the grapes for the Juvenile have produced a wine with surprisingly fresh flavours belying the hefty 15.5% ABV, though said alcohol did show in the form of a strong peppery note. Blueberry, ripe raspberry, red/black cherry, and blackberry came in waves, along with a touch of black currant. Sweet spices were initially subtle, but sage, fennel, and black pepper were prominent. A gravelly backbone hung throughout, while time provided further notes of earth, forest, and stewed tomato. The finish showed a fair bit of oak (vanilla, cedar, toast) as well as a black licorice kick. Despite the intensity of flavour and the high alcohol, the wine felt very well balanced and drinkable (though a touch more structure wouldn’t have hurt). This certainly felt like an all-in now kind of wine, to be enjoyed while fresh rather than let sit for a few years (unlike some of their other, higher end bottlings). For the price I could have used just a bit more complexity, but overall there was very little to complain about – a heck of a good time!

Dark cherry, high toned red fruit, smoke, spices. A bit of heat from the alcohol but not dominating. Unmistakably Zinfandel, good QPR!
Edit: Day 1 was PnP. After a night in the fridge, the nose really opened up with Asian spices, florals, and jammy fruit. Still preferred the palate on Day 1 more, alc more noticeable Day 2. Next bottle I'll meet in the middle, with a few hours in the decanter.

Another winner of a Juvenile from Turley. This is VERY similar to the 14 in that it's just a tasty, crushable bottle of wine. For the price - one of the better entry-level zins on the market (along with Bedrock and Carlisle OV's, etc).
Red and blue fruits with plenty of bramble, spice, and pepper (both on the nose and the palate). Better in 6 months to a year, but so easy to drink now. I'll finish plowing through my 14's and then move onto these, which should be just about right timing-wise.

Over delivers for their entry level bottle. Jammy red fruits, herbs, and a layer of oaky undertones.
Palate is balanced and doesn't feel too weighty (especially at cellar temp) despite the alc content.
While I'm not sure this is going to improve with more age, I don't see this fading away anytime soon so no rush on this bottle.

Picked this bottle up at a wine bar 'pit stop' outside San Fran. Made from grapes in 18 vineyards? I just had to try it...
Juicy, bright mix with lingering bramble berries & light spice - & light tannin, I might add. Like drinking a smokey, blueberry pie...
All elements seem to be in the right place. It is not a fruit bomb, but highly structured - & not too fruit forward.
This is an absolutely delicious wine - but do give it a good decant...90 minutes or so to let it open up.

Fruit forward and notes of blueberry and cherry. Brief glimpses of forest floor richness but quickly fades as tannin overwhelms and fruit Re-emerges. Definitely complex but shallow experience. I have had better Turley zin's but given price it is certainly worth its weight.

As always, a solid wine and one of the better zin values out there, but I felt this bottle was not quite as integrated as the 2014 was around the same age.
