Perfect bottle. Glorious bouquet of drying flowers and soft spicy red fruit. Developed and nuanced but not fully tertiary, has plenty of life and lightness. Fully resolved and integrated and silky soft. Rosy. Notes from memory a few nights ago but a completely perfect and stunningly fresh bottle.

DRC @ WS: The jury is out on this one. Didn't have the expected color of the age, and didn't smell or taste as I would expect, although I haven't had this vintage before. Some enjoyed it, some said it seemed like a different wine. Personally not my favorite of the night. At the end of the night it almost smelled like pine sol. 3/3 in the flight.

This was one of the better wines of the evening. K loves it and told me he has incredibly consistent notes on this wine throughout the years. It's very fresh and energetic, with lovely acidity and tremendous terroir specificity for GE, but it's showing age for sure, with totally mature, tertiary notes. The purity here is crazy, and the delicious, really almost fruit roll-up like fruit was just fantastic! What really did it for me was the beautiful fruit; the purity is near startling, although not exactly surprising given it's The Domaine and '78. One of the wines of the flight and of the evening. XXX++

The nose draws you in. There's freshly grated ginger, decaying roses, Hoisin and soy. It is lacy in the mouth and has superb volume. There are no hard edges, it builds through the palate and really fans out on the finish. A beautiful bottle.

A small Burgundy gathering - 08 Coche CC, 90 La Tache, 78 DRC GE, 90 Rousseau & 91 Leroy Beaux Monts (The Grill Room at Rosewood DC): Sourced from a European cellar, never moved since release. Pop and pour. Seasoned stems with a half ounce to an ounce. Fully mature nose with mostly tertiary notes with strong soy/hoisin, cherry compote, Chinese medicine, sweet spices, licorice, Tieguanyin tea, sous bois and earth. Fully integrated incredibly sweet palate, silky and polished, a hint of soy, beautiful balance and harmony and a very long lingering finish. This also shows the best with an ounce or less, showing very little soy which makes the nose purer and more detailed.

Has a delicious core of cherry fruit. There's some sandalwood, freshly grated ginger and Hoisin on the nose. It is sweet and silky in the mouth with a strand of licorice weaving through the flavor profile and outstanding persistence.

Perfect. Light, translucent body. Amazing dark berry fruit on the nose -- almost a new world Pinot freshness -- on top of an earthy smoky base. Taste is all fruit and smoked bacon. Medium finish.

Surprisingly good showing given the horrible condition of the cork and major ullage. Brownish red color also gave some pause. Happily, there was still fruit left in this grand wine. Very exotic, with strong tea notes. A privilege and pleasure to drink. If a bottle in this state shows well, then pristinely stored bottles should be epic.

Tried this at a wine dinner at Ibiza in New Haven. Nose was very interesting with some earth, dried fruit and mushroom. The palate revealed it still had some fruit but more secondary nuances dominated. Impressive.

From a nice looking bottle with a 4.5 cm ullage, this wine looked strong with a deep red center and very light red rims. The high intensity nose of raspberries, rhubarb, soil, and a hint of anise.
In the mouth, this wine was refined and yet quite ripe and flavorful. The soft tannins, ripe fruit, and long mineral finish were impressive.
While this seems at the peak of its game, it will certainly last a decade or more at this level.

2011 Special Session 4 - Wine bash of 2011 (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Popped and poured, ullarge was a bit low but the condition of this bottle is absolutely pristine. Dark brownish in colour. This has very unique bouquet, complex aromas of assortment plum (salted, sweet preserve, sour) with secondary note of autumn leaves, mineral, tea leaves and a touch of funkiness that blew off with air. Similar to the 76 Leroy RSV, this tasted a little bit old and lean at first but continue to put on weight and brighten up with better intensity of fruits and liveliness. This has seductive dark fruits sweetness, salinity and meatiness sailing on the palate along with enticing secondary flavours that formed the complex and lush mouth feel. Long finish with sweet dark fruits, bitter sweet cocoa and creamy vanilla aftertaste. This is a outstanding wine but lack a bit of the finesse to be really extraordinary.

Wine Bash of the Year 2011 (Jade Palace): Oh, the joys of capturing a top-notch Burg at absolute peak! This bottle was singing and boy did it hit all the right notes. Clearly DRC, with its characteristic stem notes of ginseng, angelica root and wood spice on the nose, this also showed some earthy aromas wafting out of the glass alongside the deepest draws of warm red fruited scents, dark cherries and some plums. A gorgeous, heady nose - even better than the bouquet on the RSV and Musigny on the first flight. The palate was at an absolutely wonderful place. It had fresh, bright acidity and super-fine tannins framing dense and powerful, yet ever so vibrant flavours of dark cherries, blackberries and a wonderful mouthful of warm Vosne spice wafting over the midpalate. The finish was absolutely lovely too, filling the mouth with perfumy flowers, dark cherries and berries, all wrapped in a velvety robe and patted down with a lovely earthiness. Incredible, and made even better by a superb pairing with roasted pigeon. Between this and the 1985 Clos des Tart on the same flight, we probably had the strongest pair of red Burgs I can remember having this year. This bottle was in fantastic shape and, while at peak, not in a hurry to go anywhere.

Red wine of the year thus far for mine, this bottle was in perfect nick and was absolutely sublime. It has that captivating nose that demands that you immerse yourself in its aroma before even contemplating dropping the velvet liquid onto your tongue. There are so many fine nuances including five spice, dried flowers, freshly tilled earth, cherries, minerals and a whiff of smoke. It is perfectly balanced, has great presence and leaves an intoxicating mouth aroma once swallowed.

Definately an old wine but enjoyable. The fill level was way down and the cork smelled terrible on the surface. The wine was medium color. I double decanted and quickly served. The wine had some funk on it but that faded and it was very enjoyable to drink with food. If I had more i would drink very soon.

Through the Decades in Burgundy - A Taste for Life 2005 (San Francisco CA): Tasting. Leather and earth mostly on the nose with some traces of nutmeg and allspice. At first the palate shows some good red fruit, but then good mushroom flavors take over with an interesting smokiness. Good remaining acidity provides some lift to the finish, which is reasonably long and elegant with its earthy charm.

Started strong but showed some fraying after 30 minutes. Not as robust as the best current examples
