First time drinking this wine and very pleasantly surprised. May be the best South American wine I've had, definitely better than other cabs. Good flavor and depth and not at all overly tannic. Nice drinking over two nights under pump.

One hour decant and pairing it with a steak bought this morning at singen market. Mushroom, wet forest floor, cardamom, sweet black pepper, vanilla ripe cherries, on the nose. Med acidity, med alcohol, med body, dry tannins, med flavor intensity and med finish. Sweet dried berries and a lot of vanilla, a bit too sweet for my taste. Ready to drink. Bordeaux style. Nose is more complex than mouth at this stage so I recommend a longer decant. Wine did taste more integrated after 2 hours.

Pop and pour. To be explored over few days at Gardens. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of young perfumed floral violets, sweet spices, elegant pepper spice, blackberries, dark currants, boysenberries, dark plums, mocha oak. Graphite pencil lead with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, high to fluctuating medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), plush approchable medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lush blackberries, black cherries, dark currants, dark plums, sweet spices, lits of peppery spices, mocha oak Touch of green moss/vegetable around the edges. Constant earth/stone mineral undertone from nose to palate end. Long finish. Very good quality. Complex and worthy of at least 10 years of age.

NobleRottersSydney - Malbec (Argentina) (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 13.5%} [Gordon] Malbec, cabernet and petit verdot in a 58/37/5 ratio, which is quite a way from the constituents of Cheval Blanc, to which this wine pays tribute. Fairly light nose, with a whiff of blackberries and tobacco. Medium-bodied palate tasting of black fruit, some chocolate, mushroom. A savoury aspect too; it’s not overly sweet at all. Medium acidity, low/medium powdery tannins. Even sort of palate, with a medium-length finish. Interesting wine although possibly better in the shorter term. Not sure that trying to reference CB does it any favours, though!

Tasted blind. Deep violet in the glass. Sweet aromatics of blueberry, blackberry, raspberry jam, some green pepper. I thought that this nose is steering me towards a Carmenere-Cabernet blend, but instead of Carmenere it's Malbec. Palate is full and smooth with moderate acidity and high alcohol. I didn't find too much complexity here, but still an enjoyable wine if you want to go big with your BBQ. Don't think I would pay this much, but ok.

Quick decant. Light nose of wet moss and old oak. Red fruits and blueberry on the palate with loads of oak, spice, and sandalwood. Supple tannins on the finish with red cherry, plum and notes of spruce and vanilla before a long oak note kicks in. However, this wine seemed to fall apart a bit as it sat in the glass, making long-term aging a dicey proposition based on this showing.

2 hr decant. Big initial whoosh of blueberry, peppermint, dark chocolate. Palate full of plum compote, dark cherry, pepper, and a tough vegetal note. Quite high acidity. I can really see the split opinions on this because on the one hand, there is some really compelling power to this. On the other hand, there is a little muddiness to the mid palate. Overall less finesse than the 2015. Still a good choice for a big steak. While this is fine I don’t think this is the best edition of this wine. Score: 91. Relative to expectations: 0

The wine is superbly delicate on the palate with velvety flavors of fig, black plum, black cherry, and black pepper. The finish is long and leaves you with a refreshing palate of black fruit. Drink or hold over the next 5-10 years.

Deep ruby. Nose is definitely earth. Starts off uber funky but blows off a bit and mellows out after an hour or so decanting. Predominant tastes of earth but secondary is dark red fruits, tobacco, some smoke, flowers.

Hope it was just a defective bottle. Blond tabacco and earthy nose, which was not unpleasant, but almost no fruit and very earthy (not in a good way) in mouth, with some serious mushrooms notes and without structure, very aqueous mouth. Hope it's just a bad bottled and the remaining 5 from a case bought a Arvi's will be better.

Not sure if it were flawed bottles, or not. Had two out of a case of 6 now; both tasted simply weird... Had the 2013 twice last year and absolutely loved it, yet these bottles... fungus? Stale?
Cheval Blanc plus supps (E & M's in the rocks, Sydney): Fresh plums, a little freshly tilled earth, chocolate, sweet spice, very slight riper herb notes, polished oak is present but controlled, a very slight meat note shows with time and the wine gets more savoury. In the mouth juicy acidity and alcohol warmth support the fresh plummy fruit with a lick of cream and a knob of butter, tannins are fine, talc textured and persistent. The alcohol lends an almost minty note to the finish but isn't intrusive. Okay.

93-95 Deep ruby. Nose of black currant, blueberry, sweet spices, cedar and cream. Smooth tannin, very full body of high alcohol. A Grand Vin from Argentina but an unexciting real New World wine. A hammer hiding in the velvet bag. Would benefit a lot from further cellaring.

Sexy South Americans (Basser's): Higher toned fruit than the 2009 Nosotros, with some medicinal notes coming through. Grainier tannins on the palate, decent lift from acidity and a focused palate. Finished 6 of 6.
This is really nondescript right now. Its confused but it seems to have good bones. I did not sense even a trace of bret in my bottle so I don't get that, but I totally get the acidic comments...You can smell the citric or tartaric acid...But this very component should preserve this wine for a long time and allow it to develop very, very slowly, provided the fruit holds. Might become Rioja like with time. I would say this is one to hold for about 7 years before you touch it. Will never be astonishing, but I can see this hitting 93 at some point...HOLD

Wanted to really like this wine. It's about a 10th of the price of Cheval Blanc. Opened yesterday and decanted. Poured a splash into a Riedel Vinum Bordeaux glass. All I could taste was acidity. No fruit, no balance. Maybe in a few years it will be better. Drank some from the decanter the 2nd day. The acidity not as prevalent, but still not good. Have 2 more bottles left. Will wait a few years see in they meld together a little better. Maybe I just had an off bottle. Be interested in some feedback.

I visited the winery in Mendoza last month. The tasting included the 2014 and 2016 vintage. The 2016 vintage was soft and elegant. Reminded me of a Bordeaux wine. The aromatics were very light and focused. Notes of dried black berries, toasted bread and baking spices. I also tried the unreleased 2017 vintage that received 100 points. The wines are very similar but the 2017 has a little more complexity and texture.
