'Left-field' whites (TWS North London) (Must and Lees, Liverpool Road): As expected, a strongly nutty, mushroomy nose but with baked apple and some curranty sweetness, perhaps raisins, followed by iron, bread, some herbs and a vegetal character on the palate - limited in fruit at this stage but some lemon and bitter orange.

Been cellaring this for 11 years. In that time, I've moved 5 times, my wine has moved 3 times, and I've often wondered why I keep this around, having been relatively unimpressed with my first taste of this circa 2009/2010. But now I know why (I was told why a decade ago, but it was all on faith. Now I know my friends weren't just pulling my leg. Thanks, guys!) 14 years past vintage, this is akin to drinking a heavier, more perfumed white burgundy. The color was bordering on orange, and that unctuous oiliness I recall from 9 years ago has been replaced by a lovely palate weight without the oil. The flavors are more in harmony, the alcohol is seamlessly integrated (before I thought it stood out too much) and honey and almond flavors have emerged. This was gone almost immediately after opening - Chris wondered where we could get more.

Another reminder for me that CNdP is (or can be) an elegant wine, both red and white. This was charming where I was expecting that it would be impressive but a bit aggressive. Perhaps charm is the hallmark of all great wine?
Soft acid but everything balanced. Absolutely for drinking now, but I expect that this is deceptive and this it may last a while. If I had to guess this wine I'd like it was a Marsanne, some hidden treasure from central Victoria, Australia.
13.5% ABV, sealed with cork.

Apricot fruit. Nice spice note layered on a light bodied, well integrated backbone of crisp minerality. A nice contrast to some bombastic Cali white Rhones we've recently consumed. The alcohol is well in check, this is nicely balanced. This was nice at cellar temperature.

Light yellow color. Quince, almond, salted butter, and waxy white fruit. Slightly viscous, oily texture with flavors of melon and quince. After a couple of hours, this really blossomed. Lemon, quince, mineral and waxy white fruit aromas. Diesel and stone flavors along with plenty of fruit.

From magnum. This has a tremendous nose of tropical flowers and fruit. Maybe the best nose I've ever experienced from a white wine. The flavors were forward with melon and apple with some good minerality and acid to give it some backbone. It's an amazing wine that should last for years, but it drinks so well now that I don't think I would wait. Excellent!

Dinner with Mike Grammer (Pera, San Francisco): Brambly red fruit, baked red cherry; tannic, young, needs time to flesh out, red cherry fruit, very good clean acidity; medium length finish. In a somewhat awkward stage. Broad range of scores for now... the wine will declare itself. 88-92

Second time round, I'm less confident how to score or evaluate this wine. Now mid-gold, this retains the odd talcum/vanilla/sherbot nose I recalled last year. It is just so extracted (and concentrated) on the palate that with my eyes closed I'd guess that I was drinking a red wine. I expect that finding the perfect food combo could transform this unusual wine into the stratosphere, and perhaps also it warrants a lot more time.

Notes consistent with previous tasting. All in I prefer it younger because of the freshness. That said, it's given up very little with age - coming together nicely, but still fresh and vibrant. In a few more years it my display the grace that comes with age of a white CdP. Too bad I don't have more, but no regrets about drinking this beauty right now.

Consumed alongside the 06 (with scallops in a creamy lemon sauce with squid ink black pasta) and also the first from a 1/2 case out of storage. See 06 note. Both lovely wines--this the more powerful if at this stage though not necessarily the better. Sherbot as well as rounder floral and lemon notes (very poor description). Moderate complexity (certainly elusive characteristics). A touch of alcohol though both state 13.5%. A little gold though very fresh and substantial. Drink now-2015/2020?? Praise be for such idiosyncratic wines...

Good, but not spectacular white Rhone. Musky nose. Honeysuckle and lemon-lime flavors. I prefer a bit more full bodied, unctuous style- this was pretty reserved and closed down. Plenty of minerality and bright acidity portend the opportunity for further development

From magnum. Golden yellow hue. Tropical fruit nose with a little funk initially that blew off in the first 5 minutes. Tastes of melon, apple, pear and peach with a petrol character. Nice mouthfeel. Wonderful initial nose, ripe pears and kiwi with a stone backdop. On the palate the stone motif picked up with a more citrus flavor. Acidity present cloaked with glycerine, although clean and medium body. Changed quickly over time, losing its oomph. Its on its way out. Drink quickly if you have any, its lovely now but about to drop.

needs a little bit of breath, and no specific notes other than to say - the perfect bottle to sip on Bastille Day.... so very much made me want to be back in CDP.... it's not trying to be anything other than delicious.... it's grapey and sophisticated, light AND deep - old world but modern - was nothing when we popped, but about an hour and a half later, it just gets tastier and tastier...there's no way my other 2 bottles will last in the cellar

Decanted 2 hours at cellar temperature. Very forthcoming and approachable on the nose and palate. This presents a rich, luxurious texture and a huge mid-palate; it's in a very sweet spot right now. The finish is immense, with corpulent layers of ripe, juicy white fruits. Approx $45, drink thru 2014

Somewhat reserved on the nose, the real meat and potatoes of this wine is the dry, tropical fruit flavors, rather easy going, gaining a little mineral complexity on the mid palate and finishing with a distinct note of dried banana. Great wine, enjoyed it, glad to have had a higher end CdP blanc, but I could find a 100 wines that cost half as much as this (see the Loire).

Very youthful, slightly tannic. Lots and lots of time. At first, I give this a 91. I want to see how this opens up. It definitely needs time to open. It is full of richness, white peaches and meyer lemon with a long finish that starts at the back of the tongue, then moves forward up the sides and back down the roof of the mouth. Wonderful, unusual flavors. After opeining, I'd give this wine a 93

Like some other reviewers, our bottle was relatively closed. Opened on New Year's to pair with lobster and there was almost nothing on the nose and very little on the palate. Same the next day. Re-corked and put back into the frig until the 6th. Finally, something on the nose and more on the palate. Clearly drank it too young. Day 6 was very promising and this wine will be very rewarding.

Terrific wine featuring a rich, voluptuous texture in the mouth yet a clean, light, lemony finish. 2001 Bordeaux Dinner (Bethesda, MD): Interesting white CDP that offers real nice minerality and texture. As it came to temperature and opened up, buttery viscous mouthfeel began to develop to counteract the underlying minerality. I think white CDP really offers great value for the price and this is a prime example.

Bottles have been uniformly on the "light" side. Light tastes of yellow apple and fennel. Not citrusy like some chards, not heavy and thick like Hermitage blanc. Just light and pretty on the palate now, with multiple nuances/medium complexity. Hope this ages into something spectacular, but for now a perfect aperitif.

I love this wine. Nice weight and acidity. Red fruit (yes, red fruit) and citrus on the palate. One of my favorite whites.

full bodied dry white with good acidity and lemon tanged finish. I am clearly a novice in this category. Seemed nice enough but not sure it justifies the price tag.

Light yellow gold. Lemon, apple and pine. Hints of sweet spice. Lots of nice flavour and a very balanced finish. Nice but for just under $60.00, I'm not sure I'll buy again.

Getting better and picking up weight. Sun warmed stones, hints of lychee and an excellent texture. Just beginning to show some fruit. A very light version of white, but very nice.

(at Christopher Daniel – Baltimore) Medium gold. Intriguing aromatics of fresh sea air, stones and a hint of oil. Jumps on the palate – a delicious wine that was even better with food. (89)

Perfectly clean, but light, almost tasteless. Drink as an aperitif, to appreciate the floral nose.

Apple, citrus, spice. Like drinking a pie made from unripe apples. Odd, interesting, great way to start a meal.

Backstreet - Closed nose of dried lemon grass, minerals and a hard to depict finish. I think it needs time to judge correctly.

eRobert Parker Offline - Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Amarone (Backstreet Wine Salon, Phoenix): Floral nose. Tastes of apples, pears and melons. Incredible depth and complexity. The fruit is quite pure and focused. Beautiful elegant finish that lasts for a minute. Need to buy more of this. 13.5% alcohol.

Took to CdP dinner at Aliso Golf Course.. very nice.. maybe a 91 even.. good fruit, well balanced. Didn't have it with food, but I think the acidity would really be a good complement to any creamy dish.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape dinner (Canyon Lodge American Grill - Laguna Beach, CA): A very nice white to prepare the palate and begin the evening. Notes of beeswax, lemon, curd, and white flowers. Slightly sweet on the attack, but the stony midpalate and acid uplift balance out the wine. Excellent. 90-91 points.

Dinner w/ Friends (Cotes du Rhone - Chicago, IL): Takes time to open in the glass but when it does effusive floral aromas. White and tropical fruits on the palate with lavender adding complexity. Lush fruits with a oily texture are made quite fresh by racy acidity. Full round finish. Quite nice.

Translucent with a yellow tint, it started with a ripe nose of citrus and pears; it evolved into caramel, honey, and candied peach. After about 1.5 hours, I tasted fresh fig and melon. By the end of the bottle, it was back to citrus.

Vineyard Gate Retail Tasting (Millbrae, CA): Concentrated nose displaying mineral character and pear notes. Very concentrated on the palate, with a dry fruit feel and an interesting spicy element. While new to tasting CdP whites, I can see how this might improve over time From 2016.
