Wow - what a wine. Decanted for 4 hours. Ruby color, very expressive nose with cherries, red currants, bright and vivid. Great acidity, dense, deep black currants and cherries, tobacco, dried flowers, elegant with medium tannins - approachable with air now - with a long ending with elegant oak. A very very good wine - drink with air or wait some years for further development.

0.375 L bottle late Jan 2024 at a restaurant: deep dark red color; bouquet of red berries, red cherries and hints of dark chocolate; like sour cherry juice in the mouth; noble smooth texture.
We drank this bottle at an Indian restaurant. I don't recommend the pairing. Nonetheless, the wine showed up well. We decanted for about an hour and a half before drinking. The nose is rich with leather, cocoa, and dark berries. The tannins were well-integrated after about 90 minutes. Dark cherries on the palate plus a long finish. This is under-rated by others IMHO.
Tignanello 15 vs Ornellaia 08 Intense rot leuchtend.

Opened for my birthday. Not offering up a lot initially. Decanted for a few hours before it started to show anything of interest. Was still a bit flat and restrained so I poured it back into the bottle, put it in the fridge and revisited it again the next day. Day 2 and it's a lot better but I was still expecting more. Not as powerful, fragrant or rich as I was hoping but I think, or hope,.it's just a phase and it will open out with time. Revisit again in a few years and see where it's at.
60 minute decant. Tight, dense nose of cherries, chocolate, sandalwood, and oak. Rich palate pairs black cherry and black plum fruit with iron and prickly red fruit acidity. Firm tannins on the finish with red leather, red plum, and a long intense tobacco finish. High quality wine but this needs more time in the bottle or a much longer decant.

Intense and complex nose with a mix of fruit (cherry but also dark fruit), barnyard, and oak. Well structured and lots of layers. There’s also meat, leather tobacco and dark chocolate. Grippy, dusty tannins. Long finish. Somewhat in between maximum primary fruit and tertiary aromas. Very subjective if it should be tried now or not (but I think I prefer it either younger or older).
Very nice, but maybe it needs more time. The meteoric rise of the super Tuscan. I paid 75 quid for this bottle. I paid 80 quid for the 2018 (about 18 months ago). It’s now selling for 300 quid a bottle! I’d be a bit pissed if I’d paid 300 quid.
tldr: drinking well (was unpleasantly closed after release) but not near its peak. balanced but fairly mild acid and tannin against ripe fruit.
on pnp nose is mildly muted but packed with a type of deep but high-toned fruit perfume typical m of Bedrock field blends+meets ripe sangio that's next level. leather and a pleasant smokiness also stand out.
opens quickly and is drinking very well. no regret uncorking "for science."

$100 wine event (Liz's House): 4 hour decant. Beef blood, full-bodied, cherry, clearly Italian. This was paired with the 2016. The 2016 will be better someday, but the 2015 was better today.

$100 Plus Tasting Year 2 (Minneapolis, MN): Decanted 4 plus hours and showing well. Blueberries, floral, dried leaves, mild spice and nice red currants. Really in a good window right now. Drink now to 2028.
I know everyone is supposed to be amazed by this wine but this was a really great bottle - for sure up to its hype. This may well merit more than my 94. No excess anything but wonderfully smooth and flavorful.
Should have decanted, but unfortunately not an option, so I poured a small glass about 90 minutes in advance. At about the two hour mark it began to open up with red & black fruit and cedary notes. A little later it gained further depth, and integrated more, though the tannins always remained quite firm. Definitely lots of material for positive development, just much too early for a full showing. Still fun to try!

Roasted barriques, tobacco, leather, dark fruit but also mixed with red berries. High concentration but at the same time balanced and pleasant to drink. Slight bitternes that I often find i sangiovese, quite big tannins, nice and refreshin acidity. Four years since release is noticeable and has for sure made it come together allthough I didnt try it back then. Really nice to drink now but will live for decades if you prefer it older.

Effusive dark florals, ripe black fruit, lifted blackcurrant and plums. Sweet spices, savoury leather. Sweetens up with time… elegant structure, layered. Finished with great perfume. Has settled, but a great life ahead.

Slow-oxed 24 hours. The vibrancy of the red/black fruits as this wine opens is beautiful. Orange rind, mint and rose petal add more energy to the sip. Although the wine is already tasting great, the edges are still a bit rough on this wine.
Paired with A5 wagyu NY strip - the brightness of the fruit really lightens the load of the steak's fat.

This was the vintage they had at san martino on lake iseo. What a treat to try, but too young. Lovely but not ready and will get better. Hold (but we already knew that didn’t we).

Nice backbone and balance with layers of cherrie fruit and integrated oak. Multidimensional and complex structure. Tannins are not yet resolved though. This vintage of Tignanello can easily keep for another 10 years, and will probably evolve into a classic wine. 95+

I opened a bottle again. It is so nice and really gets better after some time. So give it a few hours and you will notice it opens up. Mouthwatering, lingering in your mouth giving this long finish. Love the Italian sweetness and distinguished power of the Sangiovese with some of that Cabernet. 10 bottles left to age. The chance that I can control myself is not large…..

First time I opened this Tignanello 2015. Still tight but about four hours after uncorking is opening up nicely and getting better with the glass. Dark ruby, smells very nice and stays with you after drinking. 11 bottles left so more enjoyment to come.

Still tight after 2.5 hrs in decanter. Either needs more air or more age. Much better on hour 3.5 and hour 4+. Don’t rush it!
Surprisingly inky purple when poured, but then changes to dark ruby in the glass. Nose and flavors are Really in the sweet spot of Tig. Dark fruit nose, some red still on the palate. The brightness of Sangiovese with some of the smoothness of cab.
Yum yum, drinking so well but still lacking any of the tertiary flavors…will give my remaining bottles 5 more years or more.

Cherry, dusty rose, mocha/cigar, bramble fruit - 3 hour slow ox started to integrate the tannins & acid. Nice with pork tenderloin & risotto at a remote ski lodge.
Tig is Tig. Opened this during a visit from good friends who have shared wonderful wines from their cellar with me. blackberry, cassis, red cherry, cigar box, chocolate, and light leather, leather, graphite. A wonderful wine.

Decanted for 1.5 hrs. Barely any sediment. Pristine cork. Magenta red with some fuschia glints. Bumbleberry compote nose - basically a mixture of brambly black and purple berries. But mostly blackberries. Very little non fruit notes on the nose. Very primary. Only a hint of anise and maybe some minerals as well. Medium full bodied, perfectly balanced in terms of fruit extract, tannin and alcohol. The tannins are sweet and very fine. Similar flavours as on the nose with primary black and purple berries, charred oak, spice, chalky minerals and suede. Long, dry finish that gently grips your tongue. Very lovely! 92 points with upside

A wonderful Tignanello vintage. Gave it a 5 hr decant and a 5 minute vSpin and still wasn't completely opened up. 5 more years and this will be incredible. More dark fruits than I was expecting, blackberry, cassis, red cherry, cigar box, chocolate, and light leather.

Gave it three hours in the decanter before tasting. Great wine, but didn't have enough going on to justify the price. Great balance of tannins and fruits on the palate, but not much complexity. Wouldn't try another for at least 5-10 years.

Did a vertical tasting with a 2010. Dark purple color. Definite tannins. Did not open up over the course of the evening. Very different from the 2010, which was fruit forward from the start with no tannins. In the opinion of four of us, it is not ready to drink. Would hold for several more years.

Youthful and very rich but lots of potential for further ageing. Already improved since beginning of january where I tasted it last time. No tasting notes taken.
Probably drank this wine too soon. Really well made but still more tannic than I would like it to be. Goes well with food, in our case our son’s pulled pork, which has very little sweetness and was therefore a good match. I’m guessing this has years to go.
Just as much excellence as regret at opening, even after two hours in decanter and a glass back in bottle 24 hours later, it still had more to reveal.
More dusty cherry than I expected, the cab intensity is there but stronger Sangiovese expression. Wildly long finish. Leather, cigar box gave the red fruit its depth. Years until next bottle.
Wonderful steak and fries-lunch with a bottle of Tignanello. Had my first bottle a year and half ago and was not overly impressed. But this is a completeley different animal. Then it was all over the place. But today it feels much more balanced. Acid in balance, good concentration. Smooth today. Alcohole in check. Darker fruit but still coffee and chocolate. 93-94
Improving with time. Dark and brooding, but with terrific lift and freshness. Black cherries, cedar, clove, smoke, hint of anise, maybe a floral component as well. Keeps evolving. Still noticeably tannic even with a couple hours decant, so requires some protein alongside. Great balance. Out of the handful of vintages I’ve tried, this Tignanello might well become my favourite.
This Super Tuscan is admittingly young but drinking pretty well already.
Gave this a good 2 hour decant and from the initial pour to the last sip this kept evolving. The nose was full and pleasing with black fruits, leather, chocolate and woody spice.
I was a tad surprised on how well balanced it was at this young stage. The tannin and acids are firmly in place allowing years of cellar time but with some air its a pleasure to enjoy now. Layers of black fruits, cedar, some allspice and cigar box. A nice finish that lingers...
This comment is my first ever on CT: having turned 65 last year I'm not sure how to respond to the "way too young to drink" notes. I've never had the wine before and don't necessarily want our three bottles to outlive us! I may stand one up tonight and open it early afternoon for our upcoming Sunday dinner of Osso Buco and Risotto, I'll let you know what we find!!
Opened a bottle, killed a baby. What strikes me is how well this drinks young. The fruit took about 15 minutes to start coming out and then it seemed to be a race as both it and the oak built for at least an hour. Normally I like my Italians with more age, this drank surprisingly well young, with an initial burst of what I'd almost call blue fruits, settling into a lighter sweeter red fruit style.
First bottle of this in 2 1/2 years. It's mellowed a tad since then as it was big and over the top back then...a little thin and tight to start now but over 3 hours it fills out nicely. The tannins recede a bit and the fruit opens further. Wonderful cab franc overtones of bright red fruit with a woodsy/earthy component to them....the ending is marked by an ever so gentle tart cherry. There might be another point or two here in time (a few years) or if this glass doesn't finish emptying too soon tonight!
addendum: the last glass made it to 4 full hours+ of air with no real change from hour 3, in fact it may have become just a tad more astringent, so for right now, with this bottle hour 3 was its sweet spot. It is a pretty good wine. If I were back in Italy and could get it for the 77/85 Euros I paid for it, I would buy more but at $130+ it's a bit steep for what it gives me.
Dense and aromatic with nose of cassis/blackberries, spices and hint of herbs. Solid, concentrated but still harmonious. Drinkable but still young and will age well over the years to come.
Decanted for 1hr+. Light ruby red, light-medium body, red fruit on the nose, tannins were present, mellowed down but fully integrated, and the acidity was refreshing. More red fruit on the palate, with some cherry and a little bit of tart taste on the finish. We paired this with a 60-day dry aged prime ribeye. Amazing.
Brick red color, pink at the edges. Nose is red fruit, maybe some tobacco, cedar, cut grass. Palate is cherries, green/tart apple, raspberry, secondary graphite, caramel or raw honey, maybe bell pepper. Nice combination of complexity and subtlety, well balanced and integrated, fine tannins folding in nicely. Tart, but also sweet and grounded. Showing very well already. Medium- to full-bodied, medium-long finish. Outstanding at the price point.

Opaque ruby purple turning violet at the rim with a reflective edge and legs that indicate a ripe, high octane vintage. The nose gives off eucalyptus, dried oregano, seared meat, dark berries, cola and incense. The palate is full-bodied, not fully-integrated yet, but most certainly has the potential to flourish further. Flavors of blackberries, dark cherry, new leather, black tea, and charcoal form the core and evolves in the glass. The solid mid palate thrusts to a long, mentholated finish that lasts for a minute. This is just so delectable, and perhaps the best I’ve had from this producer. Drink now with a 30-minute decant until 2035. 96+
A beautiful and elegant wine that's ready to drink after about 3 hours of decanting. Not a bold wine but definitely powerful in its own way. The wine was dry and had a great finish on the palate.
Red fruit and a little jam action, but the most loving component was the hawthorn apple at the front palate that you don't get from the Bordeaux wines.
Some nice earthy notes along with leather and some darker fruit aromas. Very nice balance on the palette for me after about 30 minutes decanted. Black cherry and the dryness of the tannins are quite pronounced, but I love that. A touch of spice in the finish, which was long. There is a real pucker to the tannins and I did pick up a bit of oakiness that was mentioned by other notes. A really nice wine.
This is a very elegant, nuanced wine. Yes, it is young, but already has that softness & balance that is difficult to achieve. The freshness of the red fruit, the vibrancy of the acid, the natural earth tones; it all comes together to offer a wonderful expression of its terroir.
Røde og mørke bær. Litt lukket nese. I munnen svakt sødmefull frukt som sakte "spises opp" av en behagelig syre. Fruktig og elegant. Lang, lang ettersmak. God nå, men har sannsynligvis mer å gå på .

This a magnificent and smooth young wine. To truly enjoy it now, recommend decanting for over 1 hour. We had this with Lemon chicken, baked potato and brussel sprouts and the wine was jusy exquisite with this meal.
Wines that F**k to kick off the new year (Bob's, Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL): Nose: The nose is polished and perfumed with black cherries, raspberries, cranberries, licorice, dusty notes, violets, tobacco, leather, roses, and herbs. There is excellent depth and poise with a lot of well balanced fruit at this time.
Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. The structure is very youthful but the feel is lovely and balanced with black cherries, raspberries, licorice, dusty notes, herbs, roses, and leather tones.
Overall: This is extremely young, but it's also extremely good. There is a lushness to the fruit with a good savory quality and good depth.
Still young but so much potential. Decanted an hour. Paired with bacon wrapped chicken with mushrooms. Notes of earth, graphite, raspberries, strawberries.

This shows a lot of potential for something special in 5-10 years but it is still quite good at this young stage. Aromas of fruit and earth. Very fine tannins. Nice long finish. Looking forward to seeing where this ends up with some more time in the cellar!
Excellnent Tignanello, but way too young to fully appreciate. The structure and the depth of the fruit suggest a significant improvement in the next 5-10 years. Had this wine twice in the last 6 months and I'd recommend several hours in the decanter, if you decide to open one now.
Not good. Harsh finish. Nothing stands out with this wine. Maybe the tannins will mellow with time.
I way prefer aged Solaia. I realize they are not in same price point. However if I am going to spend $130 cad on a bottle of wine. Why not spend extra $100 and get something over the top good.
For the price i paid for this I could get very good Napa cab
I have 14 bottle left. Hope they age gracefully and I am wrong.
App: dark, dark purple red Aroma: dark fruit, blueberries, leather, licorice, earth and subtle oak Full-bodied with excellent acidity and firm tannins. Concentrated, dense, balanced and with great structure. Excellent length (93)
Still a baby, but available with decant. My first bottle of 2015, will wait quite a while for my next one…

Popped and poured just to see what was going on. The 2014 was so approachable out of the bottle. The 2015 is wound tight. Two hours of decanting only increased the acids. There’s a great wine in there but finding it will take patience (which I don’t have). Will try the all day decant next time.

Superbe!!!

OK, so I get this wine. I get the style, and I understand why it has a lot of new world followers. If you like Californian wine and want to try a premium Italian wine then this is for you. Forget the rustic notes. This is all about the big and rich palate along with generous fruit, chocolate, black pepper, integrated smooth tannins and a velvety long finish, very welcoming yet no long ageing required to show its full potential. Blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

First thing that strikes me is the high acidity. And after Cattle King this do not impress. But give it time and I get liqourice, lingonberries, chocolate that transcend into coffee. It gets better with every zip but I'm saving half so grades will come later.
Day 4: At first it feels unbalanced, acidic and too much alcohole. But at the end of the day it feels just fine. I'm conflicted. 90. And I will wait a couple of years to see if it improves. Right now not enough bang for buck.
Nose: Bright and dark cherries, slight oak with soft spice, deep moist soil, slight moss and a slight funk (more on the forest side not on the barnyard type).
Palate: Very similar as the nose but brighter and juicier cherries, the addition of a slight savory minerality like slate and possibly a subtle metallic note.
Clear, medium Ruby slightly on the darker side. Dry with what seems to be low amounts of firm, fine tannins. Light-plus to medium-minus body with medium-plus acidity. Better finish than my first bottle before of about 14+ seconds. Definitely need to decant for at least an hour for the wild brightness to settle down some. Did a side by side comparison with half a bottle in the decanter (at least an hour) and the other half in the bottle. Slight difference it seems: bottle was more of the mineral note and from the decanter was more of a deeper earth note. Again, enjoyable but not sure if for me it's worth the price (bias due to preference on the palate). 90 for me but unless the taste profile fits you, elegant style with focus on earth and minerality with the juicy fruit more in the background, then probably a 92-93.

So... i'm not the biggest fan of italian wine.. I avoid them, because there is very few that taste of something else then oak & blueberry. This is the very first italian wine that got my world rocking. This has been tasted over 2 days.
The nose: cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, all dusty with smoked meat.
The Palate: cherry, blackcurrant, strawberry, raspberry all very immature. There is this big layer of a thick & creamy jam with vanilla pudding.
The acidity is medium but soft, the tannin is high but SO silky. Cant tell if this is 4 years or 10 years old. Not much complexity but a really fruity wine to enjoy now, with about 3-6 hours of decantation (depending of it's in bottle or decanter)
On day 2 with a 24-hour decant in bottle, Tignanello really shows it's quality! It comes up with a ton of red fruits, even more complex, the acidity is still medium, tannins has fallen down, it's more soft and juicy to drink. All the notes has become more harmonious on day number 2.
So, if you want this vintage now, make sure to decant it at least 18-24 hours before drinking.
Otherwise I would keep this in the cellar until 2026 and drinking till 2040.
So balanced, so beautifully tuned, great feel again, you have the freshness, the fruity vibes, the gentle oak treatment and the overall appearance. Of course a vintage like this help, and although I've never been a fan of the wine (for various reasons), but this is a one to buy and drink or hold.

Black cherry, blackberry, plum and currant notes on the nose. Between medium and full bodied (14% ABV) with black cherry and black raspberry upfront. Mid-body shows excellent integration and balance, even at this very young stage. There's plenty of depth here, but also a level of harmoniousness that was a very pleasant surprise. Tannin based structure here is solid, suggesting a long life, but the balance with the fruit suggests this wine is going to only get better with time. Currant, leather, spices and tobacco notes come in on the back and through the finish. After two hours open, this was already revealing additional level of complexity and mid-body nuance. While the balance is there for this is be accessible now, give this at least three years, perhaps a little bit more as this wine is only beginning to show its potential. (Osteria Barberini; Rome, Italy)

4 hrs decant. In the nose much more herbal than I was expecting, eucalyptus and maybe anise, pine. Also dry cherry. In palate pretty serious tannin, that piney herbal note again, some spice, some dark cherry. Also some peach and other more subtle notes but right now it’s all buried under a wall of tannin and acid and pine. My first Tignanello and not what I was expecting. A serious wine but obviously needs more time and I wonder if this would be as much to my taste as the more Bordeaux blend style supertuscans (or a good Brunello which this is closer to) even with age. Surprisingly light bodied too, medium at most. 7.6/10
Rating for how it’s drinking now, not future potential.
EDIT: tasted again after letting the last of it rest overnight. A lot softer and a lot more of the typical Sangiovese tart cherry. Less pine and herb. Closer to Brunello than to other supertuscans which makes sense.

Top class nose of complex dense dark fruits mixed with leather, cedar, tobacco and a certain leafiness I found to be common throughout Tuscan wines. The sweetness of the tobacco was quite exceptional! Balanced on the palate, quite silky with sweet dark fruit and coffee beans on the finish. Tannins were present and therefore needed a good decant. Tasted from half bottle in Florence. Educational. 85% Sangiovese 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Had it at a restaurant. The wine was extremely tight with heady acid, formidable tannins, and bright red fruit. There was a lot of precision and the overall balance was impeccable but clearly built for the long haul. My only regret is that I was not able to decant this for many hours. The current wine is a bit of a monster. If I had several bottles I would not check back until 10 years later. In its current state I was give it a 90. But I feel it easily has the potential to add 4 - 5 points once the wine hits its peak.

Not decanted. At one of our favorite Restaurants. Very young. I guess it would have been better with 2 hours in the decanter. For me better than the 2013 I tried recently (or at least better potential than the 2013). I would recommend to wait 5-7 years. 92(-) pts. at the moment.

Darker than expected in a moody brooding kind of way. Smooth sangiovese if a little green at this young age. Sophisticated if a little spur and more rustic than hedonistic.

Nose: Initial burst of bright red fruit like cherries, very floral.. then mellows into some deep wet soil.. some oak/wood and spice, some heat and a little bit of vanilla.
Palate: Deep earth, some oak and spice, a little bit of sour tobacco and red fruit (not in the foreground though).
A moderately dark ruby color. Dry with smooth yet grippy tannins. Light-plus to Medium-minus body with moderate acidity. Decent to good finish of about 4-6 seconds.. finishes a little oaky and mineraly. I was hoping the fruit would be more prevalent but it's being pushed away by the oak, minerality, spices and some heat. Young.. I get it.. try to decant it for at least 2 hours before enjoying this. Good wine though but just young and needs some airing out.
After letting it breathe in the glass for 3 hours now, bright red fruit comes out more but still a lot of lingering heat. The harshness will definitely need years to go away (I'm thinking like 8-10).. or like 6+ hours in a large decanter to really let the harshness air out and for the good stuff to come through. I'm not so sure if this is worth the price.. expected less harshness and more smoothness. Trying to be honest here and not influenced by the other scores so don't rip me a new one for this rating. I'm thinking it could be bottle variation but for this price hoping that wouldn't be a thing. With all that being said though.. it's well made.

Decanted one hour. This is the best young Tignanello I have ever had. Terrific floral and cherry nose. The palate is lush but complex with many layers of flavor. This a very open at this stage but I think it will build weight and get better even with time.

Fort beau vin.

Pop and pour. Drank over the course of 1.5 hours and it barely budged. Needs years not months. This has all the stuffing for great things to come but it is not there yet. Red slightly sour (hint nothing more) fruits quickly hidden behind cedar/leather/herbal notes that even an hour and a half didn’t hep. Depending on how many I had m, would hold for 3-5 years before trying another one. 93 with upside.

Tasted blind. Dark, earthy, meaty, with an enormous amount of tannin, mixed with dark red fruit at the beginning of the palate quickly overwhelmed by everything else. Very young still. Needs a LOT of time before it's ready to enjoyably drink. Still a great effort for a powerful wine. 93-94

Absolutely stunning. Probably the best Tignanello I've ever tasted, and that's not even factoring in its young age. Velvety, elegant, sophisticated and balanced. Leather, cedar, cassis, oak nose; flavourful blackberry, cherry palate. It performs fantastically now; might be a true killer in 5-7 years.

Drank at Osteria di Passignano Antinori restaurant as part of a flight including Solaia and Guado al Tasso. Still very young (obviously) but drinking really well now. High complexity, beautifully balance, this wine has excellent potential. This has more complexity than the Solaia TBH. Will purchase more and store deep in cellar.

Purchased aboard a cruise ship ( Seabourn) , two hour decant. Initial impression; , young, fresh and fragrant A really beautiful balanced wine, albeit an exceptionally young Tignanello. Light to medium bodied but still a little tight and tannic. The decant and additional time during dinner allowed the wine to open up a little. Lots of cherry and red berries combined with some savory elements with herbs and spice. By the end of the evening, beautiful, jammy with some slight tartness. I’m buying some for my home cellar, though good now, this will be better in 5 years.

Clear, deep ruby; clean medium nose of leather, cedar, cassis, cloves, black licorice; pfn but not as interesting; medium plus body; dry; medium plus tannins; medium plus acidity; medium plus finish; well balanced, intense wine but would have liked more complexity on the palate; still a baby; revisit in 5 years

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #032: Wines with 98+ points: Beautiful bouquet with cherries, herbs and spices and beautiful red berries. On the palate herbs and spices, good fruits, rustic and cedar impressions. A firm dose of oak. Firm but good tannin. This wine is still a baby, but a beautiful baby…. Wait at least until 2024. 96++

Very well done in “technical” point of view. Lacking of finesse and “soul”. Actually very disappointing considering the reputation. Bad quality/price ratio.

Very powerful, youthful wine! I think this might be the best Tignanello since '97! Something very special in the making here. Opened and let decant for about 45 minutes. Deep purple color, chewy and lots of fruit. As this opened up more in the glass, it started to give glimpses into what the future could hold. I think that this wine is worthy of at least another 10 years in the cellar before touching again and will probably last another 25. Well done!

Antinori Dinner with Allegra Antinori (Margot, Loandon): From a great vintage but really too early. Dark in color, glossy, youthful. Lots of oak on the forefront, mocha, chocolate. Still underdeveloped and a bit monotonous and definitely needs a good decade to get to what it can be. Very promising but too Young for us to rate.

Dense and compact, loaded with lots of dark fruit. Well integrated oak. Needs another 10-20 years to gain complexity. Potentially a legendary Tignanello. 95+

Almost deep ruby. Even with hours in the decanter this remains quite tight, but still manages to show very deeply pitched notes of black and red cherries, thyme, lavender, cedar, and new oak spice. Manages at once to be a big wine but light on its feet with bright acids and very fine tannins framing very precise black fruit, wild herb and crushed gravel flavors. This might sound stupid, but this wine seems like a blend of Cabernet and Sangiovese on the nose; it is really in terms of texture that the greater amount of Sangiovese stands out. Tasty already but needs time to become truly remarkable; my score gives it the benefit of the doubt and might even be a bit conservative.

Trying 15 Tignanello again. Decanted for 1 hour, poured back in the bottle, corked and left in the cellar for about 3 hours. A very different wine than the previous bottle, which was popped and poured. Dark purple, almost black. Dense, rich nose of dark fruit, ripe plum. Very nice. There was a savory note on the nose mixed in with the dark fruit. Dark fruit bursted onto the palate. Rich, dense, and full bodied with sappy tannins. Needs lots of time to opened up to become a full bodied wine. However, a PnP would provide a nice light bodied, red cherries easy going wine. Very bipolar.

Another bottle picked up in Amalfi for 77Euro and enjoyed on the ship at dinner tonight. Same as the last bottle, great floral cab franc up front and great body opening up throughout dinner. I might have even enjoyed this bottle a touch more than the last.......the harshest of the tannins were not so harsh in this particular bottle.

Part of me wants to give this a 91.....but the nose is extraordinary and the body of this wine is just crying out for 5 years more aging. Consumed in a little alleyway eatery in Rome this evening. They were supposed to bring me a '14 from their menu but could only find this '15 in their cellar. It is tight on opening but did open as dinner progressed. The nose is cedar, briar, red fruit, floral and the weight and texture in the mouth is awesome. I usually don't agree with WS or WE on their ratings but this is dead bang on. The cab franc right now is over ruling its brothers, cab sav and sangio, but this is going to be one really great wine down the road. Wish we could get it at this price (750ml for 90 Euro in a restaurant!!!)back in the States.....

Trying out a young Tignanello. Opened and followed for 2 hours. Primary red fruit. Tight and closed, slowly open up over 2 hours. Medium acids, medium tannins. Good but not great depth, good balance. Was expecting more power and intensity, but suspected this young Tignanello will improve with age. Can't score it now, but disagree with WS 97 score, believed to be lower.

Clearly built for the ages. Very tightly wound core of blackberry, cherry, and vanilla. Gritty tannins that beg for a decade or two of age. It will be remarkably good later, although not giving a ton of pleasure yet

Winebar [4 Whts, 8 Reds, + 2 Shared Bottles] from 05/11/18 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "...bottled only in favorable vintages..." & aged "14-16 mos in FR & Hungarian oak barrels, some new & others already used once previously. The various lots, fermented & aged variety by variety, were then blended together a few mos before being bottled. The wine, based principally on Sangiovese supplemented by a small part of C.S. & C.F., was given a further 12 mo period of bottle aging before commercial release."
N: Toast, vanilla, with berries underneath; Seems deep; Intensity lurking?
P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt quickly met by a puckerish astringency which retains at least HINTS of the frt as it slowly, SEAMLESSLY transitions into the very LONG, BALANCED finish with elegant hints of swtness to the puckerish tannins. An *obviously* CLASSY bottling that NEEDS into '22, I'm guessing, then drinking for MANY more. SENSATIONAL! My EXC with exceptionality a DEFINITE down the line! 98 pts Suckling. [This vendor's $107.95 puts it in the top quartile of wine-searcher's entries.]

Tignanello 15 vs Ornellaia 08
Intense rot leuchtend.

Excellnent Tignanello, but way too young to fully appreciate. The structure and the depth of the fruit suggest a significant improvement in the next 5-10 years. Had this wine twice in the last 6 months and I'd recommend several hours in the decanter, if you decide to open one now.

For the price i paid for this I could get very good Napa cab

A really beautiful balanced wine, albeit an exceptionally young Tignanello.

Ripe, rich, tannic, oaky. Dark fruit, vanilla, lots of tannins. True to the house style. Good for a larger crowd. After 2025.
