Stunning flavors of intense apricot and honey, but not sweet. There are also refreshing and lively mineral and limestone with all the intense apricot. Very very long finish. It's like a desert wine without being sweet. I don't think it should be held but would be interesting for a more intense sweet edge to develop. Went great with seafood pasta

Drinking at peak for me. These always need a couple years to integrate the oak notes. Nice viscosity on the palate with some weight to the feel but not sweet or cloying. Nice crisp finish. Enjoyed with lemon-pepper seasoned King Salmon fillet. Worked very well. Would buy again.
Substantial with tropical and ripe citrus fruit. There is a freshness and lightness to the mouthfeel to offset the bigness of the front palate. Another great Merry Edwards but a tick behind the ‘16 and ‘18.
From memory: served with Pork chops seasoned with herbs de Provence. Worked very well. This 375ml bottle seemed at peak with all oak notes integrated fully and everything softened just right. No edges to be found. Nice fruit. Finished clean and complex. Would buy again.
This was from the same bottle from a while back. Coravin again. Pineapple and Lychee More acidic and unbalanced than '16. However, better than last time. I am now getting slight TCA-like smell. Is TCA possible from unnatural cork? I thought not.
Coravin. This bottle was totally different than the other vintage I drank (I think '16?). Had a strange smell and taste I couldn't put my finger on and fruit was barely around. It was almost "flat" like. Off bottle?
Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including accolades.
The relatives were QUITE impressed with this, 1 of 2 mentioning a buttery component. 🙂 A richer styled S.B. for relatively full-flavored entreés which they felt nicely accompanied the night's Baked Chx Breasts Crusted with Crushed Cheese Flavored Crackers, French-fried Onions, & Bread Crumbs. [My N/P were "off", so I didn't taste. 😕 ]

Pours straw with a bit of gold. Sorry to compare to NZ SB but my quest here is to introduce my wife to some SB she likes from California. She loves this. Said "less acidic less green grass herbal notes". To me more ripe pear than green apple. Yet not sweet. Next up Dragonette SB (Santa Barbara area).
Glad I drank this now. Was started to loose some of its vibrancy from last bottle. That said- effusive nose of tropical floras and Curtis. Wonderful Mellon and peach notes on the mid-palate with persistent finish. Went incredibly well with sushi

I buy at least two cases of this wine each year when released and truly love the style of this very individualistic approach to SB. I really enjoy a SB imbued with tropical tones that is one the drier side.
These wines do benefit from some aging, and three years in, the 2017 is just coming together beautifully. Great job Merry!
Beautiful gold green in color. Tropical fruit nose with hint of honey suckle. This batch is thick n viscous when chilled, and is sweeter than prior vintages I’ve had. Lovely and full, but doesn’t refresh as much as it coats the palate.
Reliably delicious. I have never been disappointed with a bottle of this wine. Quite possibly my favorite SB. Beautiful on the nose. Pineapple, peach. Sadly, my last bottle. May have to order some more. Looking forward to comparing Merry Edwards with Hall’s highly rated Knights Valley SB.
Bright medium lemon with glints of green – really unique nose of grass, herbs, agrumes, butterscotch, oak, gardenia, citrus blossoms, and honeysuckle; palate added tangerine and Kaffir lime with a pink grapefruit finish. Medium acid, 14.1% ABV, medium+ body, medium+ finish. Viscous mouthfeel, incredibly complex and well balanced. Not your typical sauvignon blanc; the full fermentation in oak (18% new) gave the impression, as my friend would put it, of a chardonnay "who knows someone." :)
Wonderful paired with pan-fried halibut with pesto.
Winemaker's Notes: "The unusual style of our Sauvignon Blanc has been created by a confluence of factors. A key component of this wine is the highly floral Sauvignon Musqué selection from Sancerre, which comprises one-third of the blend. The Shenandoah clone balances this out nicely with its classic herbal, somewhat grassy character. For the first time, a substantial proportion of grapes were harvested from our own young estate vineyards — nearly 30 percent.
Full fermentation in barrels crafted by Tonnellerie Cadus, 18 percent new, moderates green flavors. Elevage in barrel also allows for our biweekly lees-stirring protocol, vital to developing rich mouthfeel."
Rich and not very acidic by Sauv Blanc standards. Nose of peach and lime. Taste of white peach, lemon, cantaloupe. Ready to drink, and no point in cellaring longer. Pricier than most CA Sauv Bl and worth the premium. Score: 90-91. Relative to expectations: ++
I am always impressed by the complexity and balance of this Sauv Blanc. From the first time I tasted it, I have always found it to be absolutely delicious, and I've never had a bad bottle across many vintages.
Notes of lemon ice, cream, flower petal, muskemellon, honey, orange blossom and oak all marry and come together in one of the best consistent Sauvignon Blanca in the world. Drink now - 2024
We continue to love this wine. We have found California S.B.'s that we love for similar reasons, but this is the easiest one to find on wine store shelves. Great ripe white fruit flavors, purity, and length of finish. It sings to us!
Elegant SB with velvet mouthfeel, melon, tangerine with a creamy finish. Had late spring and did not care for it then but has really rounded out nicely. Cousin Pudge also enjoyed and said wine was "like the old days" of ME SB. Served near cellar temp and really seemed to bring out the best so don't serve too cold for optimal drinking.

This bottle reminds me why I fell for these wines when I first visited a dozen years or so ago. Medium yellow color. Nose of peach, guava, lime, with creamy honey, white tea, sea salt, some sliced jalapeno. Plush texture on the palate meets lively acidity, this is fresh but also creamy. Pretty fruit (honeydew, lime, guava) meets richer notes of honey and raw almond, and there are also plenty of floral, chalky, mineral notes. Great stuff that got really expressive with air - I'd love to age this three or four years.
Got a bottle of this at Il Poggio at Snowmass (winter I know, but we were having seafood). Medium lemony color. Pronounced aroma of citrus and peach. Dry, soft acidity, light to medium body, crisp taste of lemon, peach and melon with a chalky aftertaste. Medium finish. Good stuff.

N: Slightly closed; Tropical frt with notes of grass, & a creaminess?
P: MF body; Rndish entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an almost puckerish acidity that DOES loosen as it evolves into a LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish with HINTS of a bit of very, VERY slight bitterness that would be a + with food. Nose of white peach, some citrus, flavors of peach, nectarine, with some citrus notes and maybe some pineapple. Low acidity with a creamy mouthfeel. Good and unlike other Sauvignon Blancs.

Aromas of nectarine, coconut, lemon, lime and chamomile. Ripe nectarine, gooseberry and grapefruit flavors. Creamy mid-palate leads to a long, dry finish. Well balanced. Served with coquilles st. jacques.

FYI, I thought ColoradoHat's TN of 8/6/19 *perfectly* cut to the chase on this wine: “This is not a typical S.B. It is almost a cross between S.B. & Chard.” Sooooooo... this might well NOT be a wine everyone should seek out...

What joy this wine brings to food or friendship. As good a SB as I've found in CA for a reliably pleasurable experience. Beautiful fruit, mouthfeel, and aftertaste.
I’m a bit of an acid head, and dislike oaky whites, so don’t normally opt in to this producer. However, paired with steamed lobster and garlic mayonnaise on the boat house dock, this was just perfect. White peaches, guava, and a touch of grass with lighter vanilla notes than I recall from vintages.

I had a similar reaction to DBKITC's note. I was really surprised how sweet, almost cloying, this wine was. Rich, unctuous sweet tropical fruit lacking the acidity, minearlity, and freshness I expect in a good SB. I used to like this producer but not with this apparently new style. 14.1% abv!

(at The Fat Hen - John’s Island) I have not had this wine for the past five vintages. Based on this bottle, I worry that the style has changed and become more mainstream. Gone are the vibrant grapefruit and citrus notes, replaced by easygoing, sweet flavors. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a lot of depth and a lot going on - I just wonder it it has lost its sizzle. This is a strong reaction to one bottle but makes me wonder. (88)

This is not a typical Sauvignon Blanc. It is almost a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Very thick, almost viscous feel in the mouth. No noticeable oak, but it is my understanding that it is aged in oak for at least some period of time. Tasted with Peter Michael's Apres Midi for contrast.
One of our favorite american white wines! Well balanced nose of stone fruit and being from Georgia I am going to say peach. Mid palate the same and finished with a stewed or maybe spices stone fruit. Simpliy a gorgeous wine!

It's still magical. Now that is settling out, this wine tastes better than ever. Great white fruits with some pineapple. Excellent balance between the acidity and sweetness of the fruit.
Wonderfully aromatic with plenty of tropical fruits and subdued grassy tones. Oak shows somewhat prominently when initially opened but tames down to add nice complexity. Richness on the palette with no rough edges. Not your typical Sauvignon Blanc as expected from Merry Edwards.
Oh so good! Full of that special magic that makes Merry Edwards outstanding year after year. Great balance between acidity and sweetness. Full of white fruit and some tropical white fruits. For a baby, it's terrific.
Aromas and flavors of apricot, pear, gooseberry, Meyer lemon and chamomile. Very long finish. Good acidic balance. Year after year this is an excellent SB. Served with halibut and dill beurre blanc sauce.
Sauvignon Blanc tasting in Tokyo: Everyone had this as their second favorite. A softer palate then the others with melon in the palate nice acidity and a great, somewhat sweet, finish
So floral, with white melon, fresh mowed lawn, lemon grass, mineral and candies Meyer lemon. Long and multi-textured, the palate has staying power, along with a gliding prowess. Exacting and almost lavish at the same time. Drink now - 2024.
In 2001, 5 barrels of this wine were made. In 2017, 550. I've tasted 5 vintages over 10 years and noticed no dip in quality whatsoever. This is consistently one of the best California Sauvignon Blancs for the price. ~15% new French oak, plus a mixture of 1-yr, 2-yr, 3+-yr. This is a little fruity and young at the moment but should round out nicely given a year or two in bottle. Very nicely put together, as always. $36.

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt beautifully counterbalanced by an acidity which SEAMLESSLY leads the way into the LONG, BALANCED finish with an elegant tangy/swtness & OCCASIONAL glimpses of a very, VERY slight bitterness which (at least currently) is a +. For now & likely through '21, though drinking SO well *right* now! 14.1% ABV; My EXC+.
Note: 1st tasted on 11/9/19

Aromas of nectarine, coconut, lemon, lime and chamomile. Ripe nectarine, gooseberry and grapefruit flavors. Creamy mid-palate leads to a long, dry finish. Well balanced. Served with coquilles st. jacques.

Winebar [1 Rosé, 4 Whites, 9 Reds, & 5 *shared* bottles] from 11/8/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "The unusual style of our S.B. has been created by a confluence of factors. A key component of this wine is the highly floral Sauvignon Musqué selection from Sancerre, which comprises 1/3 of the blend. The Shenandoah clone balances this out nicely with its classic herbal, somewhat grassy character. For the first time, a substantial proportion of grapes were harvested from our own young estate vyds — nearly 30%.
"Full fermentation in barrels crafted by Tonnellerie Cadus (18% new) moderates green flavors. Elevage in barrel also allows for our biweekly lees-stirring protocol, vital to developing rich mouthfeel." 10,500 cases made.
N: Tropical frt slightly atop grass; Tough to parse more
P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt BEAUTIFULLY counterbalanced by an acidity which stays in contact with the init frt as it seamlessly evolves into a quite LONG, BALANCED finish with absolutely EVERYTHING in place! IMPRESSIVELY done for now & through '21! 14.1% ABV; My EXC+. 97 (Whitley) & 96 pts (Apstein) winereviewonline.com , 91 Wine & Spirits (4/1/19), and 90 ea WS (4/30/19) & WE (3/1/19) @ $36.
