overripe, apricot, a little acetone, almost sugar cane nose, with marmalade. Terrible pairing with smoked salmon as it brings out metallic flavors. A little bitter on the palate.

Occasional dinner group; TOP Bordeaux 1988: Ripe yellow fruits and a firm dose of oak in the bouquet. On the palate beautiful yellow fruits, full bodied, a firm dose of oak, some nutty flavors and slightly reductive. Good acidity. Very mature and still a really beautiful wine. No score.

I think this wine is well past its prime. Moderately dark golden yellow color. Some faint hints of the characteristics from a bottle 3 years ago. Butterscotch, hazelnut. But very faint; just a hint. Palate not much different. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

Still clear and golden in color. As expected this wine has darkened some with age. The bouquet is strong with butterscotch and carmel, some citrus notes from the acid remain as well. On the palate the butterscotch and carmel are right up front, but the acid is still very much present and is the main element of the after taste. At 8 years old this wine is evolving but is still very much alive. I look forward to what will happen with it in the future.

Dark gold. Complex and refined nose of honey, mellon, butter, fully integrated sweet oak, marzipan and tropical nuances. Full-bodied but by no means heavy, with an excellent combination of ripe fruit, tertiary flavors and fully integrated oak. Nicely handled alcohol (14.1%) and perfectly balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Just at the point were I like to drink my high-end oaked chardonnay. A nearly perfect combination of elegance and power. On par with grand cru Burgh.

Opened on Mother's Day with a casual dinner. Kistler Chard never disappoints...It has developed a deeper gold color and more complexity in the last couple years. Opens up in about 15-20 minutes, big chards like this do take some time to open
Vanilla, lemon, butterscotch. Some oak but restrained. All in, a beautiful Kistler, no signs of aging, should drink well for several more years, I expect it will continue to improve.

Weekend at Zuli's; 2/16/2012-2/19/2012 (St. Catharines, Ontario): Medium yellow-gold color, 14.1% abv. Complex and very fragrant nose, offering up sweet peach, apricot, and soft buttery notes, with a background of honeysuckle and light petroleum scents. Very decisive and masculine on the palate, with gravelly white tropical fruits that are so rich, they almost seem sweet. The finish just keeps going til you take the next drink...honestly, way over 90 seconds. A superb balance of acidity and mature tannins, this wine will still drink beautifully in 8 or more years, in my opinion. An incredible effort.

Nose: reticent upon open, but blossomed into lemon custard, honey suckle and apple tart nose. Palate: poached Bosc pear with lemon, nuts an pineapple notes. Full body, but not over done for the style. Finish: persistent with lemon tart, apple and pineapple juice. Oak shows on finish, but not overt.

completely unlike a bottle drunk back in 11/10, this wine is complex and keenly focused with a tight spice component in the finish, plus characteristic lemon pie and complimentary oak. very nice. easily the best example of this vineyard i have tasted.

Popped and poured. Clear medium gold; quite forward and intense on the nose with butterscotch, lemon, and a whip of oak. On the palate, lovely sweet full-flavored fruit with vanilla oak tones and sufficient acidity, medium body without the intensity and over-done quality in some Kistlers. Over time does become a bit flabby...

I rated this wine one year ago. I am very impressed with the continued youthfulness. It is no longer cloudy, the bouquet remains floral, beautiful honeysuckle and peony. The acid is still clear and crisp, which encourages me regarding the ageability. On the palate the fruit and oak are well integrated.

this had a mildly oxidized and moderate oak profile that i did not find particularly appealing. it did improve after 30 minutes in the glass, but not enough to pull it from the depths of mediocraty. some butterscothch and feint lemon, and a little flabby. disappointing.

Good wine. Citrus and spice on the nose. Nice smooth mouthfeel with rich texture. The flavors were of citrus - lemon, grapefruit, with a nice buttery element. Terrific acids in this and went very well with chicken dinner i prepared. nice long finish with perhaps a very VERY slight trace of bitterness at the end of the finish. Very good, but still prefer Peter Michael and Aubert to Kistler.

Still young. Started ok and then after a couple of hours it closed down. Golden color. Pretty aromatic with exotic fruits, hint of lemon and a smoky light caramel tone. Maybe a touch of floral components. Med to full body, it reminds me of a Chassagne from a hot year. I think this will improve with a few more years under the belt. But overall, this is way overpriced.

A cerain angularity to it. A touch astringent on the palate-- too much heat, too much alcohol. This wine in prior years was positively phenolic and I get a hint of that. Not one of my favorite kistlers.

You know what? This is really quite good. Pleasingly restrained, with slippery sweet fruit balanced by a reasonably touch of acidity and, could it really be?, minerality. More interesting than I've come to expect from big name Cali chard. At the end of the day, though, not interesting enough to justify the price.

Seldom have I agreed so completely with another taster's note, but MJerome on 3/18/2010 simply nailed this wine. Much more Burgundian in character than the Dutton of the same vintage, and to me much more desirable. The finish goes on and on.

Nose dominated mainly by toast and fig with roasted apple also. Very good length. Flashes of orange water on the buttery palate. Why do I keep trying this when it clearly needs a year or two? There's good material here but the oak is just a touch too prominent at this point. With extended aeration the oak went into to background providing just a touch of butter while the ripe, exotic tropical fruits came to the front. Distinct mango flavor on the finish.

Wonderful chardonnay. Drank this much colder than normal (refrig for 3 hours), seemed to accent the minerality and was great with shriimp and a baked brie, cut right through the brie.

A bit disappointing this time relative to my last experience as the oak seemed more prominent, too much so for my tastes. A couple hours of aeration seemed to help but the oak still detracted from my enjoyment.

Rich, sappy tropical fruit, orange, a bit of green apple, and an undertone of oak that gave the wine a toasty/bready character. Sufficient acidity to keep it light and vibrant. Benefited from a couple hours of air.

Excellent chard with a flavor profile very similar to the Dutton version with the intensity ramped up a bit. Slightly cloudy - could this be the Aubert influence on the marketplace? Clean, deftly oaked chardonnay nose of baby powder and lemon cream pie. Medium weight; texture of whole milk. Essentially simple but attractive flavors of pear and lemon. Ready to drink now and no reason to wait.

An intense buttery and oaky wine. Lots of floral notes and rich fruit. At the moment it is young and incredibly dense and smooth. The oak is strong, perhaps too strong, at the moment but I'd imagine it will integrate more with time. I'll give this a break befor trying again, but a very good, if powerful wine.

Drank two bottles on consecutive days. Excellent wine with big, tropical fruit, oak.

first things first...not a wine for those seeking elegance and a food pairing...as a beverage, it is profoundly concentrated and very tasty...i give it high marks, but it won't float everyone's boat

I never got beyond the oak and was not pleased. Served after champagne and a 2002 Patz and Hall and this just did not speak to me, at least pleasantly. I still have 1/2 of the bottle and perhaps it will be better this evening.

Rich, sappy tropical fruit, orange, a bit of green apple, and an undertone of oak that gave the wine a toasty/bready character. Sufficient acidity to keep it light and vibrant. Benefited from a couple hours of air.

butter and oak nicely married in tis bottle. lovely color and obviously unfiltered. gotta like that. pears and lemon-lime on the palate. smooth. nice finish if somewhat short.

I got to this late in the dinner b/c the normal buttery CA chard types seemed to overlook it. I was really pleasantly surprised to see how minerally it was with the oak very much under control. Very nice wine.
