Consumed at winery in Yarra Valley. Appearance: Clear, medium ruby. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developing aromas of black fruit - cassis and blackberry, eucalyptus, herbs, and capsicum. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin is starting to soften and integrate, medium+ body, medium+ intensity, 13.5% abv with developing flavors of black fruit, capsicum, and spice with a long finish. Nearing, but likely a few years from, peak. Can drink now with a short decant, better in 1-2 years and a decade beyond.

Yarra, Mornington, Geelong wine tour day two (Yarra Valley): Tar and red fruit, herbaceous notes, a little tomato leaf and green capsicum, a slight hard green note. Meh nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, red hued fruit, slightly sour green tannins are slightly unripe. Nah.

No notes taken. Splash decantered and consumed over the next hour or so. Too young now, but could work out well. Packed with fruit and good tannic backbone. Hold 3-5y. 92-94+

NobleRottersSydney - Yarra Yering (Fix, St James, Sydney): {screwcap, 13.5%} CabS, Merlot, Malbec and PV in a 70/18/8/4 ratio. Tobacco, cassis, black olive. Starting to develop a little. Fairly astringent palate with medium chalky tannins. Seems to be a sort of vanilla/camphor note on the palate; yes, there’s black fruit too, but it’s confused and bitty somehow. Needs time, certainly, but it feels like there’s a hard underlying greenness that’s here to stay. Medium body, medium length finish. But not really convincing.

Needs time in the glass. Probably needs another 5-10 years in the bottle. Still a bit closed. Really opened my eyes to the potential of a cool climate Cab Sav blend.

2nd bottle tasted in the last 2 weeks.Drunk alongside the Mount Mary Quintet which was more substantial scoring 92 but was also closed. Should improve with time. Estimated drinking window 2027 to 2040.

A pale shadow of a true Bordeaux, this wine lacks power and balance. A mauve edge with a relatively pale core revealing a closed nose that opens more over an hour displaying cherries, blackcurrant and hession bag. Feels weak on the palate with some intensity of fruit. Moderate tannin and sometimes intrusive acid. A rather disjointed wine. A half bottle. Drunk at 15 degrees in Riedel Bordeaux glasses.

Wow - for a Bordeaux Blend, this highlights what the cool climate new world is really capable of. A lot of red fruits here. Bright, on its toes, fresh, acid driven, long length and complexity. This wine has it all, and will continue to just fold in and integrate further with more years. A truly remarkable wine that highlights some of Australia's best cabernet!

Peppery smooth very well balanced. Could have aged for a lot longer but drinking very well now.

Still a bit young, wait a couple of years, but very promising in it’s deep, dark fruits and lovely chocolate/tobacco composition.

A bit more acidic than No2. Less smooth, less complex overall taste but still very enjoyable.
Alex preferred this to No2. Was decanted in 2020

ABV 13.5%. Clean floral nose, dry tannins, still too much oaks at such young age. Good length. A$120/b.

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.): Again more of the licorice and anise and all of those flavors. Dark fruits. It's a bit different and surprised me some. I found it elegant though. Nice structure. Built to age.
