I'm on board with KUUMIES' note from November 2023: this was very shut down. Started off very yeasty with some apples and lanolin making an appearance after a while. Tangy on the palate with citrus and spices and only a hint of the wooliness to come. I last had this maybe 9 months ago and that bottle eventually opened up more than this one did.

Way closed on day 1, note reflects day 2 performance. Tangy and citrusy on the nose - a bit backwards with quite many nuances still breaking out such as lanolin, yeasty notes, blood orange and the faintest hint of honey. On the palate it has good volume and weight with appropriate acidity that provides lift and even tension. Again not massively expressive, rather on the restrained side indeed, yet not missing anything and gaining intensity towards the finish almost exponentially. The blood orange-driven citrusy fruit leads on the palate without being overly dominant. The general feel is very lively and brisk, of course it is supremely youthful at this stage. I reckon it was just totally closed last night right after the opening and as we were in a negative mood after the two faulty bottles we didn’t have the patience necessary to give it enough time.
Day 5: There was one glass’s worth left in the bottle and to my surprise the wine turned out to be at its very clear best at this point. Very fresh still with a great balance between tangy fruit and acidity, an absolute delight.

Delicious, classic, notes of bruised apple (not oxidized), with fresh acidity, honey water, and lanolin. I remain impressed with the quality of the 2019s

Golden yellow - clear - clean - deep caramelized brioche with fermentingly overripe orchard fruit - here pears - and sweet fully ripened tropicals - here pineapple chiefly - palpable resid sugar despite being sec. Like a ripe aged on lees champagne with a heavy dosage and triple digit tag - sans CO2 of course.

PnP Evolved yellow colour Generous aroma of very ripe pear, apple, melon Harmonious palate, m+A, m+B, dry, very ripe fruits towards overripe, quite full bodied, relatively low acidity for a Vouvray, long mellow finish. Drink now - onwards. I have doubt whether this can stand cellaring for many years. But it is very fine right now. Went very well with the cheeses (don’t see this as a good match for the standard fish meal, more suited for cheeses)

TASTE: apple; high acidity; back-end hint of lychee gummy; 13.5% alc.; this bottle came across as needing a couple years to sort itself out -- it seemed a bit scattered.
Haven't had one of these in a while. Always like a friend you haven't seen for a few years, you just pick up right before you left off no problem. CdB was always slightly preferred to LM and LHL and this is why. Perfect balance of honey and apple to the acid and mineral flavors. Has the body and depth over those other two. I don't mind these "young" and this bottle reaffirms that notion.

Bright, crisp, tart, powerful, yet light footed. Strongly flavored, but not pushy. A sharp attack of acidity, controlled - bracingly so - but not at the expense of the fruit or balance, all of which come to the fore for a thrilling finish. Very fine.

Last one of these I tried was a little tired, and seemed a touch advanced, so let's try another: this time, we've got a more classic Bourg, everything in its place, lovely nose, a bit savory and woodsy, oodles of round fruit, but good acidity and a bit of tartness to balance it. Seems classic Bourg to me, not the mineral cut of Le Mont, but what it should be. I'm still not entirely convinced this is a 20 year wine, but looking forward to trying more down the line.

The nose had a very clear whiff of stewed apple amid the citrus notes I was expecting and in the mouth, the crystalline attack was quickly dominated by a strong taste of overripe, slightly cidery apple. Once I got used to it, it was a lot less unpleasant than it sounds, but it was not what I expected.
To put it into perspective, I opened a bottle of Champalou Les Fondraux 2019 to compare - and there really was no comparison. The Fondraux had the same tastes of apple and pear as the last bottle I had tried, but unlike the Huet, those tastes were ripe but not overripe.
Tried together, the Huet appeared disjointed and unbalanced, with the cidery apple sticking out like a sore thumb, whereas the Fondraux was harmonious and well-rounded.
Maybe just a bad bottle, but at 27 euros I won’t be looking for more.

I opened one of these last month, and was disappointed to find that bottle mildly advanced. This bottle is back to what I expected, with lightly savory, waxy chenin fruit on the nose, then a nicely intense palate, quite flavorful, some of that same savory aspect, plenty of acidity, almost a young, raw character in need of some bottle time. Guess I’ll try another one soon, and see if there is a pattern one way or the other.
So dense and intense. Really opens up after 30 min or so. Good a day later too. Suggestion: try this with some Humboldt Fog cheese. This is a match made in heaven.

Color looks good, but there is a touch of bruised apple on the nose; plenty of medium rich fruit here, good acidity, some nice umami, everything I expect in a Huet. But also a sense of cooked apple, not so much advanced as just lacking the freshness and cripness I’d like to see in such a young wine.

SO'd for an hour, pale gold, lemon with a touch of honey & very prominent acidity that was out of balance; very good, but way too young. The acidity suggests a long life.

Everything in balance. Probably outstanding if I hadn’t had the 2019 Le Haut-Lieu Sec which I know everyone says is the poorer sibling but for me is noticeably better. I wish I had bought more of that instead of of these. Will attempt to remedy that.
Lunch at 67PM: From the notes of others there seems to be a consensus that this was the best cuvee for Huet in 2019, but I think I preferred the LHL which was more driven and less ripe. Very big wine and very Chenin, the honey and exotic fruit note was a little too forward for me. Didn’t develop much with air except for a waxier texture.

Really impressed by this. Medium to full bodied. Delicious soft baked apple flavors. Not sweet though. This is my first bottle of the 2019, but this should be so easy to pair with food. It’s also great on its own. A great alternative to Chardonnay, and I think I may prefer it to Sauvignon Blanc.

Red Apples, pears, tangerine, white cherry , raw almonds, hay. Tannic. Slightly reduced. Angular and 1 dimensional right now. Gonna taste this over 3 days. Should come together tomorrow. Still delicious. Day 2: classic high quality vouvray. Reduction is gone, white cherry, slightly unripe pear and raw almonds, slightly less tannic. More integrated but not entirely. Powerful. Pretty damn good. Never made it to day 3

Greenish-golden; high intensity aromatics, wooly, quince, stony minerality; medium bodied, medium-plus intense and refreshing acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), primary fruits with some stone fruits, some apple and pear, seems slightly off-dry and I double-checked that it was the sec bottling; long finish with a sea breeze minerality. Very young, absolutely classic Vouvray, and one of the best young Huet sec bottlings I've tried. 93++ 2nd taste: Really pronounced acidity, so this should remain fresh for a long time. I expect good things in the future... Update: As enjoyable as this is now, it has a dry extract and a concentration that really indicates that it needs time. Even though it's complex, it's still coiled, and it's very obviously not as pleasurable as it will be one day. Hold on the rest of my bottles for a while...

This takes a moment to warm up and open up a little in the glass. Spectacular notes of brownish apple, pear, some citrus, wet stone, chalky mineral notes, also some flowery notes, this is just very early in its aromatic development. It‘s medium-full bodied, with excellent mid-palate persistence, it has high acidity cutting through everything and what feels just a hint of RS (?) keeping it balanced. Long finish with a salty mineral aftertaste. A grand vin in everything but the price! While I try to rate wines on potential, I might even underestimate this at this early stage. (95+)

Showed surprisingly well in a blind flight with Ore chard and white Burgs. Sweet lemon rind and white peach on the front of the nose. Some wet rock emerges hints of green apple. Palate shows more sweetness and green apple with balancing strong acidity. Real crowd pleaser.

Very impressive, as many others have noted. Quite primary and currently more Chenin in character than Clos du Bourg. But the structure and balance are all in place to see this blossom with a little cellar time. A touch of sweetness on the palate should integrate nicely with a few years of age.
Holy Cow! This is so good already. Much broader and with a more depth than the Le Haut-Lieu. A powerful white that is still resolutely chiseled and balanced. This has only upside but is hard to resist now. An amazing buy at $40. A highlight of the year for me (so far).

Superb, the best of the three Secs in 2019 for my taste. Dense, concentrated, stony, lots of acid. Playing to type, not quite the exuberance of the LHL nor the silky elegance of the Le Mont, but the most powerful, complex, and structured. Loads of potential.

Flamboyant !

Light+ bodied, traditional styling. Nose reticent in 2021, but shows yeast and tropical fruit skins. They continue on the palate, joined by soft lemon zest, oyster shell minerality, and a tart, lip smacking finish. Needs some time, but can be enjoyed today.

Crisp apple on the nose, then bracing acidity and minerality along with the crips fruit on the palate, which worked well with food (grilled halibut, cheese) but was out of balance by itself. Did not budge over the 3 days I had this open.

Aromas were like waking through an apple orchard in the fall while eating gingersnaps. Similar flavors, but dominated right now by the biting acidity and crispy minerality. Very long finish, lots here, but needing some harmonization that will take another year or three. Much too young to open, but bottle had almost 3 cm ullage at release, so I was concerned about a cork problem. But the cork was pristine, so it turned out to more likely be a filling problem. 92-993+ point potential, 2023 forward.

This is drinking so well right now - quince/pear flavor with great phenolic intensity that gives it a sense of texture. I love Clos du Bourg. This 2019 is not quite as structured as what I remember of the 2014, but great nonetheless.

Pear, citrus, and stones, with maybe a hint of quince. Clean and precise, but I was oblivious to nuance; possibly a mistake to use a narrow, antique glass that doesn’t allow the bouquet to gather and linger. The pairing with smoked haddock kedgeree was textbook, but (and as a result?) I failed to note any saline character that other notes mention.

This is a superb vintage for this great wine. Intense lemon and citrus fruits combine with pinpoint acidity to produce a fabulous wine with ripeness and electricity. The finish builds to a succulent, juicy intensity with notes of salty minerals and clove spice. Youthful of course but absolutely delicious. 92+

Very young. Initially I had this a little too chilled, which made it a little too acidic and stony with heavy grass and floral components to the nose and green apple dominating the taste. This really should be served at a slight chill but not colder: at slightly closer to room temp (but still noticeably below) a lot more fruit aromas came out: pear, quince, along with a touch of cashew and smoke. Good underlying minerality. Deserves to be put away for a few years to let it come together a bit more. Already very nice though. Hope to buy some more to have in 2023-30. Excellent value Score: 92+. Relative to expectations: ++
While others preferred the Le Mont, the Clos du Bourg was my favorite today. Whereas the the Le Mont was a laser beam of citric minerals the Bourg was an infinite bath of stones. Deep flavors of pear blossom, white peach and even more stones. Powerful and resolute. If we can trust the corks and everything else, this could end up being a modern monument to Vouvray. As good as any Chenin Blanc I've had in a while. Again, worth trying now to experience it in its youth. Honestly, if I stock up on these I might just drink them whenever I want as I find the youthful expression invigorating.

No note on this wine as this is way, way too young in my opinion. I haven't had Huet in probably 20 years and I guess my palate evolved in the interim. I did not particularly enjoy this wine; if tasted blind I would probably have mistaken it for something else than Chenin. But again, where most famous producers in the Loire are probably on the 2018 vintage currently, this is 2019 and very far from ready. Strong scents of pear, almost end of fermentation notes. Mineral, wet stone on the nose, it is quite salty, almost iodine on the palate. However, it expands in the mouth, gains volume and power on the back end. I am very intrigued to taste this wine again 5 years from now.

Light, fresh nose, beautifully medium/moderately rich, very elegant but has some power, some of that same lime note as the Haut-Lieu has, then a long, mineral finish. This and the Haut-Lieu are less dense and rich, more elegant than in years past. I haven't had the Huet lineup in a few years, wondering if the winemaking has changed in the interim.

I realize that this is way to early and the Clos Du Bourg will not reach its peak before the later part of the 2020ies, but I decided to establish an early baseline. Lots of mineral notes of granite rock and saline. Fruit profile is mainly pear, but there is also some green banana and floral, white flowers aromatics. Precise and linear on the palate with abundant freshness, but all supported by a well-constructed spine. This is good already now. But I can see the potential here! Next visit probably in 2025/26.

This was a crowd pleaser. It consisted of flavours of toasted almond, mango, ginger, and mandarin orange. It will improve over time.

Still brilliant - it has it all. Fruit, richness that's balanced by remarkable tension and cut. Still open for business.

This wine is unreal good. Rich and viscous. The nose reminds me very much of rich vintage Champagne. Apples and pears and a long finish. Just a wonderful wine with tons of life left. Great qpr.

Clear medium lemon; clean medium plus nose of Fuji apple, apple cider, nutmeg and cinnamon stick; dry; high acidity; medium alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter with apple dominating; long finish; drink in a few years; tasty like apple cider - needs a few more years to develop

2nd taste: Really pronounced acidity, so this should remain fresh for a long time.

Excellent value
Score: 92+.
