I opened this because I needed a pinot for a duck reduction, but this was enjoyable on its own and exceeded expectations. It has vibrant, juicy acidity to go with the black cherry, underbrush and brown sugar notes. This has evolved nicely into a wine that is much different than the fruit-forward bruisers they are in their youth. I wouldn't hold for much longer, but this was solid value for the $20 I paid on closeout a decade ago. And of all the Loring wines I've tried under screwcap, I've yet to experience an obvious flaw (and needless to say, no TCA), so maybe Brian is on to something.

CAVEAT: The Spousal Unit found no major fault with this wine. I did. When initially opened, the color was pale and weak. It needed to wake up a bit - no problem there. The initial color was akin to thin cranberry juice. An hour and a half later, however, it a much darker blueberry juice color. That blueberry appearance carries to the nose and palate which spreads out with Asian spice that as the evening wore on took more of a cinnamon note. Elements of cola and cherry fill the nose and palate. The blueberry is a distinct distraction. But the biggest distraction and flaw is the hot finish blasting across the palate and destroying the finish. This wine will never come into balance. Loads of sediment. 14.2% alc. With smoked salmon. Not Recommended.

Notes of sour cherries, red plums, toasted oak, and margarita mix. Robust on the palate, but the fruit is quickly taken over by the sharp briny acidity. A bit too much in your face at first, but the wine does mellow out after being open for a couple of hours. Down from my initial impression (in 2008) of 88 points.

Pop and pour - note after 3 hours. Not the overly fruity Lorings I have often encountered. This actually goes too far the over way and is rather devoid of fruit. I am not sure if this is do to decisions made in the vineyard, in the winery of is just aging very quickly. Disappointing.

I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. The nose had distinct cherry cola notes. I agree with others that the nose reflected a heavy oak component. I also found this wine to be fairly austere. On the palate I tasted bright cherries. I did not find the wine to be out of balance, but was also not spectactular.

Fairly austere. Nice structure, spice, some minerals and tart blue fruit. Update- significantly better overall after recorking for 2 days. Likely a better wine if decanted or poured several hours before drinking. I'll hold remaining bottles for at least a year.

Perceive lots of oak here, mainly on the nose, but also adding to the palate where it fills in behind the strawberry and plum flavors. Finish shows a tight quality and so overall, not a complete wine. I have one left, will save for another year to see how it progresses.

Tried a pop and pour and it was really thin and undrinkable. Capped and put back in the cellar for 24 hours. Better on day 2, but still a disappointment. Light in color, lean and austere. Not much fruit. Worst Loring to date and a bad QPR.

Do not pop and pour as the raw acidity and tart fruit at first will put you off. After three plus hours, a nose of black raspberry, dark cherry and christmas spices. The palate is full of cinnamon, cola berry and spice.Finishes smooth and without the bracing acidity the wine shows on the initial opening. Still needs time.

Perhaps the lightest color I've seen in a Loring pinot. Clear pale garnet. Very delicate nose, kind of sweet, with a hint of cherry, bubble gum. Pretty thin on the palate too. Flavors lean toward strawberry. Tannins are very soft and alcohol doesn't dominate. Finish is mid length. Not what I'm looking for in a Loring. This should be about $12.

TN: 2006 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Graham Family Vineyard
Decanted for quite a few hours, the nose comes across with bright red fruit, mostly raspberries, spice, and a slight candied note (think the shell on a candy apple). Good color, I also like when I can see through a glass of Pinot. On the palate, its light to medium bodied and fruit forward with red berries riding the whole way, sharp tannins hit the mid palate through the finish, which still has good fruit and a green strawberry leaf component. There's a touch of damp earth, mocha and cocao along the way. Still a bit tight, alchohol is held in check and I think its a solid wine, very enjoyable. I managed to catch this on the cheap clearing out of a LWS that's prepping for the highly anticpated '07s. For me, a solid 89, it really opened up nice.

Average. The nose is the high point, with aromas of pie crust, graham cracker (nice call jreis), spice, clove and cherry pie. Unfortunately, the palate does not live up to the promise of the nose. It was tart, tannic, and acidic, with some cranberry underneath. Definitely hold for now. Is it possible some fruit might emerge?

On open, the wine exhibited a somewhat disjointed nose and rather harsh tannins which did not settle after an hour. On the next day, a muted nose offered sour cherry, stewed stone fruit (compote), and hints of leather. Tannins subsided, leaving a luscious and elegant wine, but with very little finish. Requires more time due to tannin levels, but unfortunately I don't predict the wine ever matching my expectations from when I bought the half case.

The seal on this bottle broke wihen opening the shipping box. This is the color of blueberry juice. Unfortunately, it has a jammy blueberry bouquet and flavor also. Some Asian spice, cola and vanilla fill out the nose and palate, but cannot save this from the jammy blueberry. The hot finish further diminishes the pleasure you might otherwise expect from this label. 14.2% alc. With pepperoni, mushroom and red pepper pizza. Recommended with reservations.

I love Brian's stuff, but this isn't up to his standards in my opinion. Light color with a muted fruit nose of red cherry. Mild heat. Palate is soft, with again muted fruit, red cherry, mild cola and strawberry. Finish is medium short. Not Brian's best effort. Too bad really.
