This pours medium to light ruby in the glass. The nose is immediately complex and classically rioja showing toasted coconut, melted butter, dried strawberry, dried cherry, sage, leather, and touches of dill. The palate shows dried cherry on entry with leather. The tannin is medium minus and the acid is medium plus with touches of coconut and vanilla lingering on the finish. All in all this is a lovely very traditional rioja, drinking wonderfully right now.

A birthday wine from earlier in the month. The aromas reminded me of a bag of dill potato chips, along with raspberry and a hint of leather.
Flavours bursting with chalky red fruit reminded me of rocket candy, something I Always get with most Spanish wines. Other flavors of blueberry, oak spice, vanilla, orange, and minerals. I Love the acidity of this wine, juicy and fresh, tannins are very approachable. Short finish for me but this is one quaffable wine.

Ruby colored with purple at the rim. Nose is more smoky than oaked. Taste has dusty layers through the middle and a savory note mixed with black fruit. A little black pepper on the finish. Tannins were moderate to low. Drank mostly on 3rd day from opening.

Gorgeous Rioja smell of vanilla spice, cedar, cream and redcurrants. Strong and fruity on the palate, with more red fruits and vanilla. This is enjoyable to drink but it is quite acidic - there’s unripe fruit and some sharpness which stops this wine from scoring higher.

A nice Rioja... but ir seems to me that... I do not like this style 🥺😞 Too mildcto me... or something similar 🍷
Dark cloudy red color with a lot of purple.
Medium to full body. Medium acidity. Soft but well felt tanines. Nice structure even tight I prefer smoother wines.
Mildly aromatic, barrels and fruits.
Mild on the palate too: plum, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, pomegranate, strawberries, leather, pepper, stone, chocolate, vanilla, oak all in all in a very minimal way.
Nice and good quality 🍷

Robe rubis avec des reflets orangés. Un nez sur le bois, les fruits rouges et une touche d'alcool. Une bouche acide, marquée par le bois et les cerises. Les tanins sont secs. Il manque d'harmonie.

2018 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva required a load of aeration to reveal its elegant and expressive inner beauty. The developing Rioja Alavesa wine is clear and medium ruby in colour without any noticeable sediments. Popped and poured, the wine emanates over-the-top aromas of American oak artefacts of dill, vanilla and liquorice. I returned the bottle to the fridge. On the second day, it acquired a more balanced aroma profile with ripe strawberry, black cherry, earth and tobacco.
On the palate, it was dry and medium-bodied, complemented with a medium level of polished tannin and a medium-high level of sleek acidity. There were consistent flavours of ripe raspberry, black pepper, cocoa and grilled mushroom in a medium finish. The 14.3% alcohol was well-concealed. The empty bottle weighed 475 grams.
The vines are cultivated on clay and limestone in the cool, high-altitude region of Rioja Alavesa. The blend is predominantly composed of Tempranillo, complemented with a dash (< 10%) of Graciano. The wine spends about two tears in American oak barrels, and another one year in the bottle.

Spanish Introduction (Dan Murphy's, Lane Cove): Vanilla, strawberries, cherry, sweet spice, plenty of oak here, a little green underpin. Juicy, fresh, red hued fruits, slightly woody tannins close down the fruit partially leaving the vanilla and cream, simple and nice.

Popped n poured. Dark garnet that fades to rim. Nose with double bubble bubblegum and forest floor. Fruit is muted with medium plus tannins and medium acidity. Short finish. Not amazing, but ok with a weeknight meal like roast chicken or a casserole. Will see how the other one I have does in a few years.

This isn't as complex or dynamic as the 2017 vintage I had a week prior but it holds its own nonetheless. Bright, savory, with lots of plums and blackberries bolstered by earthy notes of spices, leather, and graphite. Medium bodied and finely structured.

On initial open, a bit sour, dry and closed. Opened up over the next hour, revealing slight sweetness, fruit. A little early cherry, grapefruit, touch of oak on the back but not overpowering. Good wine to clean greasy meat. Good, but not great vintage.

Purchased to season some homemade sausage. Very surprised at how balanced and tasty this was. We recently made a point of tasting Washington tempranillos, many of which were 2-3 times this price, and none of which were as immediately enjoyable.

14%. Dark red almost black core. Licorice, plums, an herbal note. Tart cherry in the mouth. Decent structure: tartness not yet fully integrated with subdued tannins. 12 sec. finish. According to the consejo, 2018 was a “good” year (as opposed to “very good” and “excellent”); 2018 was supposedly a cooler year but this wine is already at 14%, whereas the contemporaneously released 2010 Tondonia is still 13% - I guess with global warming we have to expect 14-15% as the baseline for Rioja 🙁
