Dark purple-red - no sign of ageing. A nose of liquorice, soft leather, white pepper, plums, meaty (veal liver). Medium to medium-full bodied. Tannins supple but still present; woodland floor, black fruits, tobacco. In good heart and still drinking well. Decent length for a basic C-d-R.

Lovely. Color: rouge. Clarity: cloudy. Open 7 days. Nose is bounteous with lots of rich fruits; including fig & black cherry. Front palate is dark and rich with dark fruits and the finish is long and heavy with anise and violets. Lots of acid - hold on to the rest.

This is drinking beautifully now, with a few secondary characteristics poking through the blueberry fruits, tobacco leaf, spices and delicate oak. The palette has some well balanced tannins with meat juices and textual acidity, with a bright, smoky finish.

I was surprised by the ripe fruit, which was nice, but I missed the provence herbs and earthiness that would have balanced the fruit and complemented the dinner. I think I waited too long before drinking this good value wine.

Had this tonight with beef bourguignon. Dark red colour, moving towards garnet. The first nose is a little shy, with mostly notes of old oak and dried fruits. One hour later, some cherry and dried herbs aromas come forward. But the nose remains reserved. On the palate, this is really smooth, fresh and well balanced; decent length. In my view the palate is more kicking than the nose. Overall, I think that this wine is in a late stage of maturity. Lacks a little power, but still well held together. To be drunk sooner rather than later. Good value and pleasurable. 86-87

.Purple and more transparent than you wouldwill expect given its rich flavors of pepper, dark fruit, smoky wood. Smooth and drinking well, something about this wine is a bit too slick, perhaps the large production hides the soulfulness you can find in some southern rhones.

With a bit of air and time in decanter this settles into a nice mellow wine with decent concentration and is just starting to show some development away from its primary stage. Really needs a couple more years before it starts to become interesting. Interesting raspberry flavours just starting to show. Can be drunk now but better to hold for a little while yet.

Pop and pour. Nose of terroir, dark chocolate, mocha, mint, menthol and oak. For 13.5% ABV it has very nice, subtle and seductive legs. Medium purple color with light brick rim. Nice cherry fruit with integrated smooth tannins and soft mouth feel. Some spice with spice and vanilla on somewhat short finish. Great QPR for this wine. Will now try higher end Guigal. Guigal is quickly becoming my favorite bang-for-buck winery. Being a huge fan of the '07 Cotes, I was happy to see an '06 at a local store. Nice medium ruby/purple color with ample aromas of earth, cherry and raisins. Nothing very complex here, but nice fruit flavors are complemented by leather and mild spice, but a somewhat thin body has me thinking the '07 is a better vintage. Still, for under $15 it's rock solid.

More good value from Guigal. Similar to the 2005 with regional distinctiveness (meaty tarry fruits) and gravel-like tannin (albeit it mild). Clearly doesn't have the weight and appeal of the 2005 but solid nevertheless.

Slightly less intense than the 05 but plenty of pepper and black fruits. Nice balance, no stickiness, no overblown alcohol dominating. A little over spiced on the finish perhaps but eminently quaffable with our without food. A bit of a Paul Collingwood - unlikely to disappoint, but little inspiration. Great QPR.

Colour: purple; Colour depth: deep; Clarity: clear Aroma intensity: low; Development: youthful/medium Aromas: spicy Dry; light to medium body; lively to smooth acidity; moderate flavour intensity; long finish heavy dry tanins Flavours: pepper, VERY spicy, bitter berries. 13.5% alcohol. 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. pleasant and drinkable. I wasn't a big fan when I tasted it alone, but I raised my rating by a few points after dinner--it paired very nicely with sun-dried tomato and olive pasta sauce.
Consistent bet year after year as a quality wine for the price. Darker inky garnet. A bit of an outside aroma to start followed by plums and blackberries. Fruity, somewhat sweet but with white pepper mixed in, and medium finish. Easy to drink, no need to decant just open and pour, good with food, hard not to like.

Yet another great bottle from a rock solid performer that year-on-year gives you more character and terroir mixed with reliability than probably any other producer I know. This wine manages to tread a thin line between being a consistent product and a wine that reflects region and vintage. And all this for under £10. This is never going to be a wine that blows the nads off your diner party guests - and that is the whole point. Not every wine has to be WOW and BOOM and Gobs Of Fruit (TM, Mr Parker) - this has a calm, reserved quality about it that is neither a whisper or a shout, just one of the best mid-range wines you can get your hands on. A touch of liquorice on the nose, deep fruit but without being cloying - balance, tannins in check, fresh enough to drink now. What is not to like?
Nice ruby color with floral notes and cherries on the nose. Medium bodied with excellent balance and a nice finish. A wine that everyone will love and an excellent value!

sure, one can find this wine at any local supermarket, but the accessibility is a plus because this always a solid Rhone table wine, opens with air, deep smoke and berry nose, fine texture with a grippy finish, balanced between rustic and elegant, pure, natural fruit, this vintage shows nice finesse and juiciness, awesome with a lamb roast

I like pjaines' and others' descriptions here. I have the 05, but I think I like this 06 better. It is sharper, with more pepperiness, nice red fruit that lingers on the finish, good balance and verve. Deep red, not purple. Drink alone, or it is good with cheese or meat (I like braised beef stew type stuff). Nicer than some other CDR, but watch price as it can fluctuate from high to low on this one. Under $15 for sure.

Basic red wine. Nothing too fancy, nor bad. On nose it had some cranberry or some other red fruit. Taste was mild untill the tannins and acidity kicked in. Although it had tannins they were nice. It also had some spices and some kind of sweetness. Very enjoyable with soft mild cheeses.

Medium dark brown/red color. Nose starts out with warm berries, then it gets more floral and perfumed. On the back end of the nose I get some animal blood/gamey components. Medium mouth feel, nice integrated tannins. "Old world" aftertaste, but other than that a quite fruity wine that doesn't have the same finesse as the 2005 vintage in my opinion. Nevertheless, the wine finishes in a good medium long aftertaste.

Simple and a bit too sweet ( Grenache?) but good for what it is and what you paid for. 10 euro for half bottle makes this good value for money but no magic here. Gladly for us the beautiful village of Mirmande in France made this feel even better..

50% syrah, 40% grenache, 10% mourvèdre. 13,5% d'alcool. Note perso : 85-86

Wow - this never disappoints! My first experience with the 2006 and I have to say this might be the best Guigal CdR to date. Smoother and more refined than usual, this is a perfect every day drinker. While I do miss some of the typical rusticity of the wine, this has a velvety texture and refinement way above its appellation. Excellent for what it is.

Probably one of the most reliable wines on the market, this delivers a lot of wine for very little money. The 06 has a very southern French nose to it, los of garrigue and dusty soil aromas but with depth of fruit that treads a nice line between being neither too rich nor too tannic. The palate is very compact which gives it an air of restraint that you usually dont get in wines at this price. Excellent as always. For the price, brilliant.

A certain degree of elegance here for a wine at such a price point, although rustic construction. A little game on the nose, cherry, pepper, crushed florals, crushed stone, and tar. Lighter in body than the '07s, fine full tongue tannins. Solid finish in check with the medium body, persistent. Seems like a perfect weekday wine that will not disappoint. Interesting, good with food. Very good value.

It's hard to go wrong with a Cotes du Rhone from Guigal. This vintage's nose is expressive at 4 years old, a touch of barnyard, round fruit, esters, acetate a slight herbal well balanced. The taste is granache fruit, rich middle complexity of acid adn tannin, long finish. 91, good as always, and ready

Ruby color. Nose: boysenberry, black plum, cinnamon, licorice, and a hint of funky wet leather. Palate: dried cherry, black plum, licorice, some dried herbs, and dusty chalk. Solid acidity. Moderate/lighter tannins. Moderate length on the finish with a kick of peppercorn. Juicy texture with a dry close. Very good as usual. Drink now.

More good value from Guigal. Similar to the 2005 with regional distinctiveness (meaty tarry fruits) and gravel-like tannin (albeit it mild). Clearly doesn't have the weight and appeal of the 2005 but solid nevertheless.

Medium ruby, clear.
Blackcurrant, pepper plus some vanilla and smoke on the nose. Spicy, not fruity in the mouth.
Dry, medium acidity, low tannins, medium body, short/medium finish.
Smooth and quite quaffable, if not a bit one dimensional.

Great QPR.

Slightly meaty aroma with cranberry and bramble. The palate starts quite hot but this fades slowly and you are left with apple skin, blackberry and white pepper. Not bad, not great.

50% syrah, 40% grenache, 10% mourvèdre. 13,5% d'alcool.
