Drank across two evenings with the second one better after a Vacuvin rest. Lots of complex flavors of red and dark red fruit. Full and nicely balanced. What a wonderful wine at such a nice price.

Brambly fruit on the nose and palate. at this point it was a bit muted but much better day 2. Decent amount of structure. Much darker fruit compared to the Carlisle I had a few days before this one. This will age, I would let it if I had more.

Bright crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Fantastic nose of red fruits, citrus and baking spices. Medium body with perfect acidity. Lighter in style with crisp, fresh fruits. Well balanced. Black cherry, raspberry compote, blood orange and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Delicious Old Vine from a stellar vintage that you should enjoy now while you let the Single Vineyard wines age a bit longer.

Gorgeous color. Spice on the nose, palate blackberry, pomegranate and clove, brambly character that is almost harsh until it gets some air, to me it misses the Zin sweet top note to balance. Maybe this one needs time.

Maybe I'm spoiled, but this a dead ringer for the $2 carafe of house wine you order with lunch in Italy at a bygone tourist trap of a restaurant. Some plum, no mid, enough acid to go with foods, but completely nondescript. It is red wine. This make me glad they ripped out all of the old zin and planted something better.

PnP, with initial notes of candied fruit jumping out of the glass. Started to focus after an hour or so, with notes of black raspberry, black licorice, and bramble leading the way and lingering on the tar-tinged medium finish. This is a nice return to form for Bedrock.

PnP. Dark fruited on the nose and palate with notes of cedar and a bit of graphite after time in the glass. Medium bodied, perhaps a bit lighter than most zinfandel. Slightly grippy tannins which was not surprising in a wine so young, but not nearly as present as I was expecting. What struck me more than anything was the medium++ acid. This wines was really juicy and refreshing and even though it wasn't everything I want in a zinfandel, I kept coming back for another sip. I don't typically open wines this young but I'm glad I did. Need to get a few more and lay them down for awhile. Nice weeknight quaff.

I opened this bottle about 8 days ago and completely forgot about it in the wine fridge. When I realized my mistake I assumed it would be showing signs of oxidation and destined for the drain…but I took a small glass just to see…and…lo and behold this thing is somehow even better. Shocked, really. The nose is bursting with floral notes and baking spice in a way that other bottles haven’t shown on day 1-2. The wine has no signs of oxidation whatsoever, and I can’t think of any other wine that’s held up like this, let alone improved, with this much air time. Speaks to the quality of the winemaking and the fruit bedrock is using. Bravo.

Sourced primarily from vineyards in Sonoma and Contra Costa counties that average greater than 80 years of age, Bedrock's 2021 Old Vine Zinfandel is a deep ruby blend of 85% Zinfandel, 7% Carignan and 4% Cinsault, supplemented with small amounts of Grand Noir, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and other field-blended varieties. Deep ruby in color, it flaunts an aromatic profile of boysenberries, dark plums, baking spices, white pepper and licorice. Medium-bodied, fresh, lightly oaked, softly tannic and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas and stays solid in the middle. Long and lifted on the back end, this is a well-balanced, soft-textured Zin that is hard to resist. Enclosed with a Diam 10 cork, this bottle was popped, poured and serially sampled over two hours, during which time it continued to aromatically improve. Drink now-2030.

Pnp. Medium+ purple-ruby in colour. Nose of bright red berry fruits with a touch of earthiness. On the palate, a semi-jammy black cherry and licorice profile with some cracked black peppers are noted. Light-medium bodied with a medium finish.

Opened this to drink with a grilled steak salad. Initially medium high tannins and chalky. After letting the wine breathe and decanting, smoothed out to dark cherry on the palate with a hint of spice or licorice. Medium acidity, went well with everything except grilled peaches which were more juicy and acidic.

Young nose of ripe cherries, coffee grounds, espresso, and fresh leather — definitely nice aromatic intensity and complexity for the price. Palate has some intense ripe black cherries, preserves, almost to the point of syrup, at its core — it does feel a little chunky in general. Medium acid, and a fair amount of ripeness mean this doesn’t exactly dance on the palate. Not bad, with some good stuff going on, feels like it needs to come into focus a bit.

Excellent. Super bright raspberries and a furry tannin base, much lighter and fresher than most zinfandels, but still a ton of big fruit flavor and those tannins giving texture. Hints of pepper on the nose but only fleeting.

This is a bit on the lighter side relative to previous vintages of their OVZ. It is all pure red raspberry fruit (literally that is all it is, like raspberry liqueur) with a kiss of toasty American oak. A very good wine, and easily drinkable, but missing much potential complexity and certainly not a 90 point wine. Would be popular with a lot of consumers. Not a repurchase for me in this vintage.
Savory aromas of brown sugar, roasted plums, dried blueberry, and sage. As mentioned by another user, this is a lighter-styled zin… The wine has bright, fruit-driven flavors of bramble berries, red cherry and Welch’s grape. A little brown spice as well but not much in the way of secondary notes on the palate. Lively acidity, wonderful balance, and velvety tannins compliment the long, juicy finish. 15 minute to unwind, 90 minutes to show really well. Fantastic OVZ.

I've had a few bottles of most vintages of Bedrock's OVZ since 2015. I would agree with earlier reviewers that recent vintages have lagged, but that this one is a return to their earlier high standard. At this early stage, it's better on the second day. I'd suggest a couple of years of aging. Overall, a good, reliable value, but not a revelation.

Lively, bouncy and bright. Brambly aromas. Juicy entry. Cherry, red licorice and then herbs de provence intertwined with white pepper on the finish. Live-wire acidity. Filmy tannins suggest this is going to be even better in 3-4 years. Really a revelation for zin - not heavy or dark and really light on it's feet. 92

After a string of so so Bedrock (and Carlisle) Sonoma Co Zins and Syrahs, this broke the loosing streak. Zippy, cheerful and bright, i loved the combo of raspberry and dark spices, light in body yes, but delivers. Give this a year or three to settle in and then enjoy over the next 5+.

Sneaky density and structure, this comes across as rather light for Zin, but it is quite serious at the same time. Dark fruit, cherry and berry preserves as well as fresh fruits, a little herbal and floral quality too, but mainly exuberant ripe fruit. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with fine tannins that grip on the finish as waves of fruit subside.

Very tasty- but.. not as jammy and uctious as the 2020-2019, bottles. Maybe a harder vintage. Steal a good deal from the winery, but a retail markup would make this less of a QPR.
Couldn’t resist trying one early, though I know how well these age short-term. Primary and grape-y, but you can tell the quality of the fruit. Will age or decant the rest of my bottles.

You can tell the quality of the fruit is there, sweet and grapey. Surprised alcohol is only 14.5% as it needs some air to help balance that heat. Will decant some next time.

Opened by mistake for guests, thinking it was a 2020. Happy accident as, at this early stage, this seems to be a superior wine and potentially the best of tbese since the awesome 2017. There is a lushness of fruit, varietal spice and full mouthfeel that is unusual for the price point. Going to buy more.

Deep reddish-purple garnet in color. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of dusty/earthy & spice notes of cloves & pepper, herbs, anise, dark cocoa & minerals. Full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced, & smooth textured, lush & plush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & mulberries with spices, herbs, minerals & dark cocoa. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing. Appears to be a bit more fruit forward & accessible than previous vintages but has the structure to develop further with a few more years of additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (93+). May be among the better vintages for this wine.

I don't know if it is possible to make a better $20 wine in this day and age.
Drank over 3 days. The first day showed off some brooding darker fruits with sprinkles of spice. The wine showed substantial evolution with air as juicy red cherries enhance the sweetness and acidity of the palate on the second and third days.
This has enough vibrancy to stand-up to most foods, and enough minerality to be quaffable alone. The development with air suggests it won't hurt to give it another 5 years of cellar time either. I don't think the remaining bottles will survive that long in my cellar though...

Initially a bit muddy with plummy fruit, nose & palate. Soft with an abbreviated finish, mild oak veneer. With air, light prickly tannin emerges along with some cherry that adds a little brightness to the nose. With more air, the entry & finish meld, tannins stiffen. Not sure I’d have guessed primarily Zin. For me, nowhere near the 2012, which was a revelation @~$22. No dissolved CO2 in either bottle. Not my style this year. 2 of 4

Deeply colored. Expressive nose- blueberry, blackcurrant, black tea. On the palate medium acid and tannins, soft/ripe. However, there was some refermentation w/ a bit of spritz in the glass and pressure on opening the bottle - suggesting some residual sugar. The wine is good but not as complex or expressive as prior zins by Bedrock
Just a solid, well balanced Zen. Grapefruit with some brambly not overly ripe flavors. A subtle hint of tan and with great acidity. This is one of my favorite qpr zins.

More linear, fresher, brighter than the last couple of editions of Bedrock OVZ. Given the vintage conditions that’s surprising, but wine can do that. Fruit is more in the fresh raspberry vein, with the green herb and spice in supporting roles. Each sip compels the next. Magnums make sense, but are also a very dangerous idea.

Reminds me a lot of the Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas at this young state. Enjoyable from a PnP, but needs several hours of air for it to deliver. Palate is on the darker side of zin with plums and blackberries. Firm dusty tannins. Very long mineral and black pepper finish. Herbal spices build up after several sips.
My gut feeling is to start cracking these starting next year. Glad I bought a case. Leaving unrated for now.

Definitely has more spice and savory concentration and structure this vintage. The front and center blackberry/black cherry liqueur notes I typically associate with this wine are more of a melange of dusty black fruit, shy and peeking in between the pepper and mineral notes. Needs a good decant to drink now (started opening up a little more after an hour or so in the glass).

A much more spice driven rendition than previous years. Plum and cranberry with pepper. Savory and spicy. Short decant, but begins to really open about an hour or so in. With air, it’s enjoyable now. Will save some for day 2.

Pnp. Medium+ purple-ruby in colour. Nose of bright red berry fruits with a touch of earthiness. On the palate, a semi-jammy black cherry and licorice profile with some cracked black peppers are noted. Light-medium bodied with a medium finish.

Decanted 1 hour. Opened up over another in glass.
Bright fruit, medium tannins - some clove, cinnamon
Will look for another to age.

Decanted for 40 minutes. Aromas of boysenberry, wild cherry, bramble berry, white pepper and hint of plum. Flavors of wild cherry, boysenberry, licorice, hint of blueberry and hint of plum. Ends with a long 20-25 second finish with boysenberry and wild cherry notes. Impressive for the money!
