Decanted two hours before drinking at Marea in NYC for anniversary dinner. Floral and black fruit merge beautifully creating a lovely nose followed by an impressive concentration of black fruit, forest floor, and luscious licorice. Delicious finish caressing the palate with loving strength.

Shared by a very generous friend in Hong Kong - small glass tasting sample served blind.
The bouquet confused me for a bit, and I initially thought this was Leroy, with ample red fruit and tea-leaves coming through, without full-cluster notes that I always look for in DRC. Also the wine was cloudier than I thought a 2006 DRC would be.
Nailed that it was from Vosne though with the spiciness on the palate. Beautiful wine in a very good window at the moment, but will keep for a long time.

La Tâche Dinner (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): In 07/06/03 vertical. This really, really, really needed to have been decanted. Burly with roasted meat character in the forefront, spice and bright fruit in the background. So much ere, not quite classically Vosne spiced right now, but just teasing us with its potential. A pretty and accessible classic example of La Tache. Very fine in a more intellectual style. Not tannic or backward, but not fully showing what it has to offer either. Very good now and I expect a lot more in 5-10 years.

Opened 6hours : Big, round, well-balanced, fruit forward with peppery green. Fabulous young wine. The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and mineral. The body is light/medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Lovely wine. Thanks Reed for sharing.Young. Medium color. Primary. Nose not yet developed into the typical asian spice and secondary notes that I love. Some stems and dill. Great fruit. Great balance. Complex. This should develop nicely in the bottle.

Not technically corked but some distinct bottle taint that ended up overwhelming the subtlety of the relatively young La Tache. Still long, etc but not typically La Tache. Shame.

Double decanted 3 hours prior. I almost didn’t decant because this showed a pretty red strawberry fruit with a hint of spice already. A surprising amount of sediment fine and chunky given the age. Filtered the remaining sediment through fine mesh gold coffee filter: the fruit is dark and smooth at the core and finish long and perfumed. Very nice finish. Tasting notes to follow. I hope this doesn’t shut down.
Updated (at dinner):
Surprisingly open. This was surprisingly pure with notes of crushed strawberries, spice, and sour cherries. The palate is more red fruited without the sediment. The nose continued to evolve with occasional hints of mint and a touch of vanilla oak. This became more shut down after 5 hours of double decant and 2.5 hours in the glass. A surprise to the upside with excellent potential.

Precise and delicate, and even with some layers. Obvious vosne spices, however not very pronounced, but rather subdued and elegant. Not a lot of depth, but maybe that is not to be expected from this very light wine, or maybe that is just a matter of further evolution. 97-98 pts. Wait 1-3 years, is my guess.

Drink along with 2006 Leroy's Romanee St Vivant and 2006 La Romanee.
This is so vibrant, the nose of LT is showing well in an elegant, delicate, clean, very nice and very beautiful indeed. The texture is velvet, splendid, great structure and big surprised, so lovely at the moment and getting more serious after 3 hours. The aftertaste is very deep and long long finished.

Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) - Part 1 - Burgundy 2006 (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Small taste, brief note. First wine of the night. Birthday lunch for Mike and Andrew: A beautiful, fragrant bouquet. Intense, precise and high toned. Complex and multi-layered including aromas of violets, gentle mixed spices, black and red berries, minerals etc, framed by discreet vanillin oak. In the mouth, intense perfection. It achieves that rare combination of real power with lightness of touch that only great wines can. It is very pure and clean and yet the flavour profile is detailed and multi-layered, with a seam of rocky minerality throughout. The serious architecture is disguised in the sleek, seamless package. The acidity is gorgeous and the tannins are superb, ultra-fine grained and suave. It’s only a baby of course. Hold it for as long as you have the patience. I guessed it was a 2002 and then a 1998 La Tâche – it seemed inconceivable it could come from any other Burgundy vineyard. Thanks Mike.
Drank over 2 days with not a huge amount of change between day 1 and day 2. The nose was very closed at first, but after a few hours and more so on day 2 reveal outstanding spice, red and blue fruit, hint of chocolate and an earthy streak. The palate was rich and very coiled and clearly was holding back given the concentration. This is among a few 2006 Grand Crus I've had recently that have been a bit shut down. More spice and freshness on the palate. Long, albeit, narrow finish. Try again in 5+ years.

DRC Tasting Group (Wild Ginger, Seattle, WA): Intense, delicate, perfumed nose with kirsch, light spice, and cherry liqueur. Lightweight body filled with delicate fruit (strawberries), a light hint of spice, and a soft, elegant finish.
Time and air coaxed out notes of cherry coke, menthol, and ultimately dried cherries (after 1-2 hours). Super elegant, gorgeous all the way. 96+

An extremely attractive wine – probably the most ready to drink in this lineup.
Very good color – medium dark purple/ruby; aromas a mix of cooking spices and berry fruit – some tasty oak and a fresh floral edge; elegant and harmonious entry, with lush fruit over quite a firm structure; acidity and tannins in check but bode well for the wine’s longevity; round and full on the palate, running well back; a mouthful of fruit – dark cherry, cassis and some blueberry - that comes forth in bursts; concentrated; grips the palate but carries its balance nicely, with the components in line on the same harmonious target; vigorous but restrained at the same time - could be identified as finesse; a long and lasting finish where the fruit is the dominant element. One could easily sip this wine now with some soft cheese, or partner with a variety of dishes over dinner. Good future also - probably another 15 years.

DRC Dinner 2 (Sydney, Australia): A wine that is out of this world. An intoxicating nose, with lifted rose notes, five spice, cherry, raspberry and cocoa. Impeccably balanced palate with simultaneous density, definition and clarity. There is restrained power here with a depth and persistence to it that left me stunned. It is extremely youthful but aside from the evident potential to be a superstar with time, I found it to have exceptional appeal even now.

Came out of the gate a little awkwardly and I initially (quite wrongly) thought there was a touch of brett here. It breathed up splendidly and was eventually the wine of the bracket. The nose was multifaceted, throwing off scents of roses, smoke, hoisin, soy, menthol, raspberries and cherry stones. In the mouth its beautifully constructed, without a hair out of place and flavours that morph from sweet to savoury leaving an impression caught in a place that the Japanese may term umami. Again a wine of enormous potential.

First time La Tâche, and incredibly enough I had it twice the same week. It is easy to understand the reputation that this wine keeps. This is indeed a fantastic bottle of Burgundy. Beautiful transparence of bright red fruit. And the complexity. Layers and layers of interesting stuff, both in the nose and the palate. Where does all these spices come from? From grapes planted just north of Beaune is the somewhat unbelievable answer. Rated the first bottle 98 and the other 96, so a mean of 97. But who is really counting?

Decanted at 6pm, consumed 3.5 hours later. Brutally difficult to get a read on the nose. Shy, reticent, I move to the palate which while it shows it's hand of powerful flavors, it too was tight and unforgiving. Like a mysterious women who's covered from head to toe in baggy clothing I look forward to my next bottle in 10 years time.

DO NOT OPEN THIS WINE anytime soon, it's totally shut down. It takes many hours to open up, and I'm quite certain that what one gets now is barely a shadow of what will one day emerge. Not nearly as accessible as the '04 La Tache was at this stage.

Again deeper – more bloody – colour. More density to the rim too. Wonderful impact on the nose: deep dark fruit with Asian spices hovering overhead, a fabulous swirling gaminess on the mid-register, succulent cherry and kirsch fruit, and floral topnotes. More with every sniff … dark and brooding hints of woodland floor too. This has it all on the nose - in case you can’t tell, I really liked this one ! Mouth entry is big and very firm – big black fruit and a tarry core. Quite a mouthful, but the mid-palate shows lovely freshness, a real floral lift, ad layers of meaty richness intermixed. Great density and spicy complexity. A stunning wine. . 5

Pinot does not get any better than this. Its finest expression in the most subtle way, and the length..... WOW.

My First DRC and Many Other Treats (Mirabelle, Austin, TX): The nose was really muted for me. I didn't get much of anything. Loads of acid in this wine. I wish I'd saved some to come back to.

A stunning wine. . 5
