Aged Chenin is a great thing and this didn’t disappoint. Golden color, honeyed nose and fruit, touch of oxidation, rich viscous texture and long finish. Went great with a range of dishes, incl cod fritters, sunchokes, Brussels sprouts pizza, gem salad and more. At peak or slightly through it. Not sure I would hold for much longer.

Rich and developed Chenin Blanc aromas, with honey and chalky minerals. Has taken on darker color, and alsoquite a lot of richness since I tasted it five years ago. But the delicate Bourg elegance is still there. A bit short, maybe.

Deep yellow without browning. Spirity, herbal aromas. As before, dry, lighter weight, tart tropical fruit, great acidity and soil. One of the most singular Huet Vouvrays I've tried. In excellent form at age 14.

Quite restrained even being decanted during dinner. Lovely nose, mineral, unripe exotic fruits (mango, passion fruit). High lemony acidity, lime zest with again this impression of exotic fruits but without over doing it or over ripe. I liked it a lot even if I was expecting more flagrant aromatics and less restrained.

This was very good but I have had more celestial Vouvray sec from Huet. On opening it seemed a bit bland but after some air the expected flavours of white fruit fruit, wax and quince and underlying gras emerged. As usual not bone dry bit with plenty of mouth-watering acidity and minerality in balance. I missed a bit of complexity and fragrance which I usually find in mature Vouvray but it was an excellent pairing for very fresh Saint-Pierre fish. Unusually for Loire Chenin it performed less well with goat cheeses but these were more ripe (affiné) than ideal and somewhat aggressive. Very good.

Deep yellow/light golden. Flowers and yellow apple scents. Medium weight, not as full or caressing as bigger vintages. Herb and a different fruit profile than I usually note-dry tropical fruit like guava plus apple rather than pear and quince. Superb acidity and soil, minimal residual sugar-a truly dry Sec. This may be the closest thing to a Saumur I've ever tasted from Huet.

From 375. A lot of seemingly oxidative aromas that mostly (but not quite entirely) dissipated with air. A very sec Sec with lemony fruit, some steely minerality, plenty of acidity, and just a little bit of chenin-ish texture. This bottle came out of a bargain bin many years ago, so it shouldn’t be considered representative.

Light yellow. More herbal than your typical Vouvray. Lighter weight, not as glycerine either. Barely perceptible residual sugar. Some faint acacia honey rises with air, but this is mostly driving lemon and guava with fantastic acidity and soil. This really tilts toward the leaner, more mineral wines to the west of Tours rather than Vouvray per se. The quality of fruit is different than what you usually find in Huet. Extremely interesting bottle.

Nice golden color, light in the nose, lemon icecream and grilled pineapple, on the palate green apple, lacking complexity for me, not covering the mouth, even a bit aqueous, okay but no experience.

This was a leaner wine to me. Definitely a lot of lemon candy on the front. Then to me this one just sort of goes into obscurity. I think there could have been some pear, or apple, or kiwi. Or honeysuckle. Or maybe mango? Honeydew? It just almost went into a hole. Definitely a sweeter edge to the finish with some cashew notes and herb influence. A steely sort of essence here. I have had one of these that is many vintages younger. On that one, the fruit seemed to be incredibly more vibrant although the acidity was completely out of balance. So I definitely agree that these need some time at least for that component to integrate better. I would like to try a 2010 of this wine, as I bet you that one is just rocking. This wine would go with a huge variety of foods. I'm pretty sure I would get bored with this wine if it was a little bit older. In a nice spot now.

After two good bottles in 2017 and 2018, this is once again a lot like the bottle tasted in 2016. The mineral energy and structure still survive, but the flavours of spiced yellow apple give a tired impression, even if length is good. I have experienced a similar (problematic) development in some bottles of Dauvissat Chablis (both village and Le Forest). Maybe a little more sulfite would help to protect the flavours from ageing too quickly? Lots of bottle variation here. Was probably best 4-5 years ago.

Almost two years since my previous tasting note and still going strong. Energetic and minerally, fresh and firm, green apple and citrus and fresh linen, cool yet intense, has line and length even at 11 years of age. Fully mature, but with time in hand. To my mind, Chenin Blanc rarely prduces really beguiling wines, but this is jolly well done.

Yellow. Forward citrus (orange). Drier impression than Le Mont. Even more driving acidity than that wine with an extra gear and much more soil on the finish. This could benefit from more time in bottle. Superb, true sec.

Really good showing, although best on days two and three and needs a bit of time. Shows a lovely herbal and anise seed aroma, fresh and airy and enticing. Also the woolly honey of chenin. Good acidity and balance, just drinks so well.

Unlike the bottle from 2016, this one is completely fresh. Maybe not as expressive and detailed as the bottles tasted in 2014 and 2015, but it is pure and mineral, cool and energetic, rounded and precise, with flavours of red apple and chamomile, good intensity and length.

Perfumed, clean, elegant, and aromatic on the nose. Tender and elegant in the mouth. The Bourg apparently lacks some concentration compared with the Le Mont. In this vintage it was especially clear, so I put my money on the sibling here, despite the obvious elegance of the Bourg.

From 375, my final bottle, too. Over 3 years back, I tasted this and said it may go another 10 years more. Gotta say, after about 1/3rd of that estimate gone now, the wine still hangs right in there. Opened 2 hours ago, there is a pungent grapefruit note in the core of this wine, not something I come to expect from Huet, nor Chidaine--usually it is lime, but this is really about grapefruit. There is lime skin here, tart peach, green apple flesh and a little 'lean and mean' too with a lot of grapefruit on the finish. There is plenty of energy here, a medium weight, no sense of RS and no oxidative notes. This is just spot on good, with zingy acidity and some stone fruit to shade it all. I'll stand by drink window from 3 years ago and say another 7 years seems like a real possibility, maybe more? PS--I want to note that comments by others related to this being hot, heavy, oxidized, etc. I just don't find that here. I'm not saying that to diminish what others sensed, but instead reassure those who have these around still and want to leave them for years ahead. This bottle, and the one from 2013, have both been excellent to me.

Odd experience with this. Dark depend gold color plus a hint of oxidation suggested premox. Rich spiced apples and a strong mineral component, very good length. The more I drank this I really couldn't determine if it was premox or just an odd phase. A conundrum wrapped in a riddle for sure.

Yellow. Typical pear nose and some sulfur to start. Lighter weight for Huet and not terribly concentrated; in fact, a hint of mild mid-palate dilution. Excellent acidity, lemony fruit, and some herbs. Not austere in the least. Very good but missing the texture and depth to be better than that at this point.

It is really quite amazing. After a very gradual evolution during the first eight years of its life, this has suddenly moved into "spiced sweet apple and pear" territory. Just like Le Mont Sec 2007, this has done a baffling volte-face within little more than half a year. It retains a certain juicy freshness and displays the tell-tale Chenin flavours of linen and chamomile, but the mineral tension and steely precision seem to have vanished in the blink of an eye. It holds up well in the fridge for two days, so maybe not for good? Let us hope that this spotty adolescent will find its bearings again in another three to five years.

Approachable but with a lot more still to come -- I'd hold this. Dry, but clearly a rich wine (residual sugar possibly? covered up by the sharp acidity?). Quite closed at first, opens up somewhat as it warms and gets oxygen.

Does not seem to have moved a lot since 23 February 2014, so I gladly refer to my note from that date. Or is it just a little but softer and more mature? Anyway, it needs a little time to open up, and then it becomes that wonderful blend of richness and freshness, roundness and precision. Energetic and long, full of finesse. Wonderful wine, now - 2020.

Bright light gold. Very mineral nose, with underlying sweetness. Disappointing in the mouth, burnt apples with a touch of honey, dry, minerality in the mid palate, adequate acidity, medium length. Was this a rogue bottle or should I drink up my remaining stock?

Robe - nice light golden color, close to a young sauterne
Nose - this was a moving target. through out it stayed very clean with notes of honey suckle, melon, some mineral notes, pear, fresh peach. the note that did not make an appearance was that wet wool that chenin can produce with some bottle age. all in all, very pretty but timid at times
Palate -this opened up quite quickly. popped and poured and the first sip was flat. a little swirling brought out the structure and fruit. the mid palate on this is lacking a bit but is made up for by good fruit and the acidity carrying though to the finish. the back of this is just lovely and is quite long. after every sip, your mouth is salivating BUT the acidity is very rounded and integrated. it is not a sharp acidity that for instance the '07 Haut - Lieu had back in 09 / '10.
notes - this is really starting to show well right now and showing some complexity and fine length. i have one more btl of this and i think that i will open it around it's 10th bday. i would say drink now until 2019. this does not have the stuffing to really go the long haul but it is showing quite well now. if you have one btl of this and want to keep it a bit. i would say open in 2016. by then, it will have time to express some more of it feathers. all in all, very very nice and i can't think of a white wine and this price point that can age and deliver like Huet.

Light gold. A complex bouquet, fairly restrained, mineral notes on top of pears and honey, what's not to love. Wow, there are lovely surprises here, first a quite sweet hit, fruit, lemon and grapefruit, then the acidity kicks in along with a refreshing bitterness, and there's acidity in the long finish - a perfect chenin.

So beautiful and pure, such a lovely expression of grape variety, vintage and terroir, linear and precise, energetic, crisp but calm, charming and rounded, lovely stuffing of ripe red apple fruit, subtle aromatics, hints of white flowers and linen, smoke and honey, lots of finesse, excellent length. Drinking at peak but with time in hand. Now -2020+.

Writing this the second night of this bottle, which I think is showing a bit better, so give it plenty of air. Medium intensity, just a bit lacking relative to 08 and 10 vintages, but a lovely wine, with plenty of flavor, good, though not blazing acidity, a nice hint of soda fountain lime phosphate, and some decent limestone minerality coursing through the finish. Very nice, will definitely age, but drinking well at the moment.

Steve & Barb's house. My first taste of a 2007 Huet. Light yellow in the glass, this was painfully young and very difficult to decipher. A medium bodied acid bomb with a very long finish. The question in my mind is whether the fruit will hold up to and balance the very high acid. When tasting the '05s at a similar age I felt they had a better sense of balance right out of the gate. If I owned this I wouldn't touch it for 7-10 years. 50+12+12+8+8=90? could be 93 in time if the balance comes out.

Boys nite II, fall 2010 (Reno, NV): Very tight and slightly neutral at the moment with plenty of minerals and depth of flavor. It is balanced with moderate length, good intensity, low complexity, great finesse, a firm, but fine texture, and very good expression of place. "Good" wine tonight with potential to be "excellent" based on what's in the glass as well as producer's track record.

From 375ml. My first foray into the Huet Sec wines, and in a word, wow. Though the nose was youthfully imploded, the palate impact was a pure bolt of flavor electricity. Freshly halved Bosc pear and green apple, dabbled with slight drizzle of raw honey, and then surrounded by a sphere of sea mist, with an awesome mineral thrust on the very long finish. The texture was heavier and more three dimensions than a typical Muscadet, but certainly a lot of common characteristics as well. I’d love to pair this with sushi. A world class wine under $30 that has me excited to try all the other Huet Sec wines, and at current prices, I can afford too!

Initially opened and poured, this wine subsequently quickly decanted as the bouquet showed an unyielding personality and the palate was dominated by acidity. After the decanting the wine developed a slightly more forthcoming personality but while never completely shedding its austere features. After about a half hour the aromatics show spicy, floral, grapefruit and mineral notes. The color is a light yellow. The medium bodied palate develops balance with airing but acidity continues to dominate on the finish. The will require a couple years of bottle age to calm down the strong acidity component on the plate and give a more forward, nuanced bouquet.

Domaine Huët Masterclass with Benjamin Joliveau (Prince Wine Store - Bank Street): The first notes on the nose are dried fruits with pear being the most dominant smell, but there are also delicate ginger and floral notes wrapped around it. The palette is delicate but structured with a backbone and the oily finish is perfect. At the end a nice gentle acid and mineral zing to cut through the residual sugar.

Puckeringly tangy on the back of the palate. Long finish which causes you to keep pressing your tongue to the top of your mouth (not a bad thing, but the best I could describe it). Delicious white. This is why white wine is my favorite drink in the world.

Tight as hell on night one and just plain gorgeous with tremendous focus, length, minerality, and acidity in a poised balanced package. I hid the bottle with a half glass remaining until night two and discovered the emergence of layers of flavor and texture including citrus and summer fruits, wooly lanolin and kitchen garden herbs. While this great wine is several steps above my pay grade I can safely label it as outstanding.

This wine was decanted and poured. It required about an hour in the decanter to show its best. The aromatics show floral, mineral, spice and citrus notes. The color is a light yellow that is youthful and vibrant. The medium bodied palate shows good balance, racy acidity and a long finish. This is showing well now with decanting and should improve with a few years of bottle age.

Day 1 - Tight as a corset. So shy on the nose that it's difficult to tell what's going on. Apple fruit and lots of acid on the palate, something spicy a the core. With vigorous swirling, and three hours later, the wine is still impenetrable.
Day 2 - More expressive on the nose, showing lots of rocky minerals, some wool, and hints of summer fruits. There is great intensity and focus on the palate, with a solid and still almost impenetrable core of energy at the center. But the wine is elegant and refined, very attractive.
Day 3 - It has really come together now, with lovely quince and wax aromas, regal and mature. There are bitter herbs and citrus fruits underneath, and more rocky minerals. This is a wine of class and grace. The palate is just as intense as it was on the first day - will this wine ever die? There is great grip and length, and the sharp mineral cut stays with you after swallowing.

This has more high toned florality and pear and less citricity than the Haut Lieu or Le Mont. Richer and perhaps a tad sweeter than either of those 2 wines, but today, slightly duller than the super-racy Le Mont, although this has an excellent limestone finish.

Pale color. Crushed stone and powder on the nose to start, then grapefruit pith (like Sancerre) and pear come into play. Painful intensity of acidity which bores right through the palate and long, stony finish with a nip of quinine. Only as it warms does it pick up some flesh, fruit, and an intriguing licorice and clove sap. Utterly fascinating juice, leaner and even higher in acid than the Le Mont. Most bracing white I've had in some time, and a true Sec for the ages (but not for the aged, I'm afraid). I'm tempted to lock this one away for 10-15 years before trying another bottle.
