The high alcohol content has overpowered the fruit. Alcoholic, but still a bit of the fruit coming through. The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Red Currant, Prune, and Petrol. It tastes like Petrol, and Alcohol/Hot. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Oily texture. The wine finishes Medium.

Deeply colored, somewhat translucent. Good spicy Zin nose tending toward cloves with a hint of green leaf. Rich sweet Zin fruit, touch raisin. I thought this might be over the hill, but it is drinking quite nicely. $20.

Working my way through a few Turley zins I find these wines to be out of balance and hot. The berry flavors are there the complexity is not. Really not my style but not a terrible wine in any way.

Dark red with a clear quality that had that bright and strong zin nose on opening and decanting eventually leveling off with nuances of briary dark berries and an earthy component with a touch of pepper. Resolved fruit grip and texture that firmed and gained strength as the wine warmed from cellar temperature. Good framework that had a little bite on the edge and a nice lingering finish...still good stuff.

Very nice. Actually better than the last bottle, but still a 90. Starts with a lot of fruit, mainly cassis and dark fruits, it then moves though spice then on to Chocolate and finally a soft leather finish. Very much in the Turley style.

A hugely disappointing wine. There was a tremendous amount of volatile acidity and if I was in restaurant, I would have returned it. The wine is still pretty young for good zin, so I think it was a bad bottle. Since I bought this directly from Turley as part of my allocation, I emailed them and they have not yet had the courtesy to return my email. This is opposed to Ridge, Cuvaison and Wilson who replaced bad bottles that I bought directly from them. I feel like they are too fat, rich and arrogant to return the email.

Deep dark red and a firm nose of dark berries, ripe plums and some smokey spice...this is holding up well with a rounded mouth feel of fruit that has several layers and a firm edge that gives this a nice finish. Went great with roasted baby back ribs.

Despite the high alcohol the wne was as smooth as almost all Turley Zins are. From the first taste untl the last the fruit lingers on the pallet. We enjoyed 3 bottles with friends along side tapas servings of beef, scallops and lamb.

On the nose, raspberries, strawberries, maybe just a touch of blackberries under the vanilla. On the palate, medium bodied and dominated by raspberries and black raspberries, beautifully balanced, with no trace of alcohol.

Very solid Zin, and only hinting at the Turley style. Brambly red fruits, solid structure, plenty of oomph but without the borderline raisin flavors that sometimes exist from this producer. Totally enjoyable and a great value.

Drank over 2 night, first night opened and let sit for :30. Had a nice steak, green beans and corn with it, but it was generally tight. Second evening it showed much more complexity, better nose and more layers. Definately give it some air time next time, possibly up to 2 -3 hours if you really want to have wine dinner the same night.

on day 1 this wine was blockish: intense, prolonged, but unidimensional. but on day 2 it has opened up nicely, revealing a characteristic zin/blackberry-bramble nose and palate, but also a very fine acid and tannic structure on which a whole lot more floats.

Purple/black. A huge wine with a nose that assaults your senses, powerful aromas of blackberries, creme-de-cassis, vanilla, tar, licorice. Massive on the palate, with ripe fruit, but briary and strong, although not to the point of feeling "hot". Not really my cup of tea, but if you like this style of wine, I would serve with a spicy BBQ or some other kind of powerfully flavored grilled red meat...

Had this at the bar at El Gaucho while waiting for our table. My wife really enjoyed this wine, but I did not. The glasses at the bar weren't the best, so I would like to revisit this wine again in the future. I thought it was sharp and spicy. It burned going down - I never like that. My wife did not share my view. She thought it was a big jammy Zin with a bit of spice. The rating is a combination of mine (lower) and hers (higher).

Red rasberries dominate the nose. The wine tasted of red fruits, spice and firm tannins. A touch of heat was detected on the finish and ultimately led to a lower score. Love this vintage of the Juvenile. Bright nose of red berry and raspberry, with a solid, structured palate of the same fruits and some brambly flavors. After an hour both the nose and the palate showed some pepper. While this won't likely win any awards for complexity, it is a great example of the varietal, and, I would guess, one that would be enjoyed by almost anybody who likes Zinfandel, even folks who don't like Turley.

Decanted for 20 minutes. This wine has settled down very nicely in the past 5 months since my first taste. The aroma and flavor profiles have remained the same, but the heat that was present initially has been replaced by a glycerin-filled sweetness (and not in a cloying way). The finish is ultra-long at 30+ seconds. Wow...what great improvement in the bottle! Too bad it's my last one....

nice mouthfeel, i enjoyed the viscosity taste of dark fruit, light pepper, with some depth and complexity, some sweet (as opposed to heat) on the end as some tasters have mentioned, but it really worked well with the strong finish that kinda rolls around in your mouth.

Opened the bottle yesterday and drank after letting it sit 30 minutes in the class. At that point, it was still somewhat tight and monolithic. We drank the remaining 60% of the bottle tonight, and were rewarded with a rich, powerful, and much more complex wine. Thick and glycerinny (sp?), it was what we look for and expect in a Turley.

WIML90,WA90-92,NOWS Tasted September 14, 2005 at an offline at a restaurant so brief comments only. Decanted two hours before serving in Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glasses. Dark rose to purplish in the glass, clear hue. Nose was slightly closed and not showing a lot, maybe some red cherries, red currants and some spice box. flavors of red currant, red licorice and earth. Drink now but should hold another year or two very easily. Cautiously recommended, mostly because the wine didn’t seem to be showing it’s potential. 0-2 attaboys added.

This was opened at Otis' CDP last month. I cannot say that I agree with Brettay's notes on this. I found this wine to be over the top and overly extracted. Rather rich and full fruit. Although the high alcohol did not present itself in either the nose or palate, my overall impression of the wine is that it seemed very mechanical. Not my style. 87-88 points.

Enjoyed with steak at Jardiniere as part of the wine pairing. Really enjoyed this wine. Complex, intense Zin. Long. Had alot of flavors I'm normally only accustomed to tasting in a late harvest Zin - plum? pruney? Quince? Very fruit driven nose and taste. A little thin somewhere in the mid, but comes on strong again by the finish. A touch sweet on the finish, but in a good way. Changes in your mouth - some definate complexity. More so than the bottle of Old Vines I tried two weeks later.

Good, jammy Zin. Provides pleasure now with lots of plum and red fruit.. not much spice or black fruit. Pretty simplistic. Would hold for another year just to integrate better, and drink over the next 5. Good value Zin, but no stunner. Consistent with 3 previous tastings.

Served with Pagliacci pepperoni pizza (delivery). Decanted for 30 minutes. On the nose, loads of cracked black pepper and plums. On the palate, a jumble of black fruits...fairly well balanced, but with a bit o' heat on the finish. This one is good, but not stellar. A tasty slurp with BBQ, steaks, pizza, burgers, etc. Not memorable perhaps, but a decent QPR to be sure. Enjoy!

Similar to previous bottles/notes...
very dark, nice nose of complex berry and some spice.
nice mouthfeel
dark fruit on the tongue, light pepper, with some depth and complexity, some sweet (as opposed to heat)
got a couple of "whoa, what is this? I like this." from some non-winos.

This was my first Turley and I was not disappointed. Great earthy and fruity nose and whopping palate of cherry and cola. Nicely integrated finish that did not strike me as being hot or overbearing at all. Drinking great right and a really enjoyable first Turley experience.

At V-steakhouse in NYC. Excellent cherry / blueberry nose. Fine depth of sweet Zin fruit without being hot or overbearing. I preferred this to almost all other Turley's I have tasted - seemed much better balanced for a big wine. (16)

Great mouth feel with black cherry and currant notes. Even more complex and integrated on second night.

Same as the last bottle. very tasty.
oh. and somehow i left a glass worth of wine in the bottle uncorked on the dresser. the next night the wine was still alive. Freaky. shows the stuffing of this wine i guess.

Too bad it's my last one....

nice mouthfeel, i enjoyed the viscosity
taste of dark fruit, light pepper, with some depth and complexity, some sweet (as opposed to heat) on the end as some tasters have mentioned, but it really worked well with the strong finish that kinda rolls around in your mouth.

Tasted September 14, 2005 at an offline at a restaurant so brief comments only.

Enjoy!

pretty good. not sure if this very ripe almost port-like style of zin is what my palate is digging these days...but for those who like the style, this is classic turley and is right on the mark...
