Very different from 3 yrs ago. Now, very strong and forceful on the palate, seems very alcoholic though supposedly just 13.5. Recorked and retasted on day 2 and day 3--to its credit, very little change, but on the other hand no improvements that made it pleasurable to drink. We finally dumped it.

Drinking tremendously well at the moment! I very very much enjoyed it! Ripe, blue fruits on the nose, a little spicy and very clean! The palate is rich, not overly complex, a little meaty, and rather substantial in size! A medium finish. I suggest to drink it within the next five to eight years. Realy nice!

Garnet. Nose shy, took hours to reveal iron, hint of plums, slate. Taste also took time to present itself. Graphite, iron, fresh oregano, hint of plum.

OnP: Drinking well, rounded and little shy on the nose. Overall good value. The wine looks orange colored. It tastes like blueberry. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Balanced, still vigorous, and a treat from start to finish. I'd say this wine has another 10 years and the focus and structure to age into a nice package.

Nose: Plum, forest floor, tobacco, leather, fresh soil after the rain, barnyardy funk, mocha
Palate: Fully integrated tannin and faint acid. Plum, roasted bell pepper, leather, tobacco, dried blueberry, some herbal flavors that make me think of menthol.
Takeaway: This is about as old tasting of a wine as I'm happy drinking. It's layered and complex, but a lot of the boldness and fruit has faded. It's become something different, but I'm not sure if it's any better than it was 10 years ago, just different. Either way, it's a good way to celebrate NASA going back to Mars and the return of the space age.

Picked from the list for a steal - and what a treat. Vertical structure, blue and cool, plenty of rich fruit, chocolate, blackcurrant; years to go. #Knudhule #PB

Has come along nicely over the past several years. Continues to be a big mouthful of Bordeaux yet there is complexity starting to emerge. Let’s see what happens in 2024. (89+?)

Popped and poured last nite and bro's house. I've had this before and notes are very consistent. Some earth, some barnyard, on the mushroomy side. Mostly in its tertiary stage now, tho still some black fruit here. Nice but time to finish your stock

Vintage over maker. This is delicious. Nose isn’t huge but has some cedar, tobacco and dark red fruits with green bell pepper and cocoa. The mouthful has good acidity, blackberry, some hints of pepper, good length. This definitely punches above its weight. Perhaps at its peak?

Took some time to soften and really come alive. It was a little astringent immediately after opening, then the next night was a beautiful floral soft wine with a lot of character and good length. Last bottle and I have no regrets. If I had more I would drink or hold, I bet this wine has another decade in it, another very strong small wine from 2000.

Drinking from coravin this week. I bought a few bottles of this bargain 2000 right bank Bdx many years ago, and it still pleases. Mature now, showing its age in glass with lots of brown edges. Nose of earth, saddle & blackberries. Still some fruit here but fading. Earthy, leather, cedar and forest floor, and a general rustic quality. I've always liked this wine, and still do. Drink up!

An herbal, almost bell pepper note dominates on the palate and finish. Some good fruit on the nose, nice color. Enjoyable if very different than most other's experience.

Bordeaux 2000 tasting: clear, deep claret clean, profound tertiary aromas of mature dry cherries, forest floor, old saddle leather, mushrooms, tobacco and eucalyptus dry, high acidity, high tannins, full body, rich mature dry cherries, leather, tobacco, long finish. Excellent!

This unheralded 2000 compares favorablly with higher pedigreed right bank wines. Deep red/garnet in color, it serves up a bouquet of red currants, Asian spices, lavender, cocoa and espresso. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic and with medium-weight, soft-textured tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and shows no heat from its 13.5% alcohol. Dense on the mid-palate and finishing with good length, this is an impressive Yon Figeac that speaks volumes for the estate and for the structured vintage. Well-cellared bottles will last longer than previously estimated. Drink now-2028.

Drinking beautifully on PnP. Dried plum fruit accented with earth and bell pepper. Round, medium weight fruit is smooth with find grained tannin. Nice balance and seemingly at the front end of a long drinking window.

Tasted blind. One of the best wines I've had this year. Notes of saddle leather, pencil lead, violets, bramble and dirt. Tongue coating tannins said Bordeaux. Lots going on in this well balanced wine. Years left but drinking very well now.

A tasty wine. Notes of red fruit, spice, cloves and lots of perfume. Best with our roast, herbal chicken ( with a thyme, sage, rosemary and sea salt spice rub) and with our roasted, organic Pete's potatoes. We paid $23 and it was a good deal. (I see them for $45-$65 now). Drink now.

Youthful, deep ruby color. Nose is reminiscent of very ripe fruit and dirt. I get a bit of overripe character on the palate. Good flavor penetration and extract but not doing it for me right now. (87)

This is a fine wine that has come into its prime. Not much on the nose, but great fruit flavor up front, dark blackberry tones, fruity but not sweet; then some spice, cloves, and a very long finish that has leather, apple spice, and my wife even thought it had pork and pork cracklings as a flavor; indeed, there is something rich and fatty about it. In short this is much better than I thought even a few years ago, and it still seems on the young side. The finish goes on for well over a minute. If you still have some, enjoy and savor, and look for those pork cracklings....

13.5% alc; Medium+ brick red to orange rim. Developed bouquet with iron filings, forest floor, damp potter's clay and baked fruits. Seemed at its edge or past its drinking window. Medium-bodied, with a surprisingly crisp acid and firm powdery texture. Given it is Merlot based there is a lemon-fresh acidity, compact, grainy tannins and firm structure. The fruit is peeling away as rusty nails and charcoal jump in as the wine has evolved. Some richness to the mid-palate but this wine is teetering and should be consumed soon-ish. Started to dry out in decanter as the evening progressed. Later felt the bottle wasn't in top condition.

Classic Bordeaux. Fragrant nose of cassis, cedar, and a touch of vanilla. Full body. Purple with some bricking. Cassis, plum, cedar, spice box, and black pepper flavors. Nicely complex, but the tannins are still a bit rough, however. I'd drink now as the fruit may not hold up.

Darkness. Nose of earth and black berries, pencil lead, some licorice. Big, chewy wine. Very understated sweetness, lots of clay-like minerality. Big, dark fruit. Quite big and bold in the mouth, and dries up to a tannic ending. Medium to long finish. Better with a couple of hours air. Not close to end of drinking window. Still got a lot of life in it.

Don't do many public reviews, but thought it was interesting that none of the reviews I saw mentioned Brett. I understand that it is almost a given with many (most?) aged French/Bordeaux wines, but still... Although the wine still had some interesting fruit and tertiary flavors, as well as good balance, when bandage/medicine cabinet is a dominant aroma/taste, that is not quite right for most American palates. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not fond of Brett and think it is a flaw unless the winemaker purposely inoculates with Brett.

My first bottle ever from Y-F. I hadn't read any notes here so I was quite surprised: it really is a big bruiser of a wine. Earth, leather, liquorice, herbs, then some black cherry and blackberry, but the nose is essentially quite dry. In the mouth, a big, full-bodied, chewy mouthful of the same, with initially brutal tannins. The second wave of much richer fruit comes through after a few hours and much better the following day. Quite a rich and intense finish. Not bad at all: if the fruit can last out the tannins, this could be really good in another two to three years.

Very good. Probably one of the finest efforts of this relatively lesser known saint-em. Has receached its platteau and probably will maintain for another 3-5 years.still a bit more tannins than fruit therefore under 90. But great taste. 20-30 sec finish.

A bit of a bruiser. Rugged, big and a bit rough on the finish. The fruit profile was correct but not really that interesting. I have loved many of the 2000 Bordeaux I have tried recently, but this is not one of them. Maybe needs more time to settle down. (86+?)

From half-bottle. A medium red with a ligher shade of ruby on the rim; still relatively youthful in color. The fruit is still fresh and lively. Well resolved tannins and a fleshy, plum and cocoa palate. Lovely minerality; but the finish is very short.

Very consistent with my last tasting note (Yon Figeac Verticale).
This time 3h decant, which is absolutely necessary as this vintage is still very young and closed in the beginning. Dark red, almost blackish colour. Tobacco, black berries, oak and a very long finish.

Decanted for for 30 to 60 minutes. Pleasant nose of various berries with some wood, but modest rather than bold, which causes a slight pause of contemplation. Similar in the mouth, with balance and structure to support the entire meal (lamb chops with vegetables and tabbouleh, cheese), followed by a satisfying finish. Still robust and vigorous, it can handle some more aging, but I enjoyed its well crafted structure, its restraint, and its ability to adapt to the phases of the meal. It was closed at first, so I should have decanted it earlier.

This wine has largely flown under the radar since release, but it is a 2000 which is worthy of comparison with more distinguished-pedigreed right bank wines. The robe is deep red/garnet and the nose shows an intense, beautiful bouquet of red currants, sage, white flowers, coffee and coriander. It is medium-bodied and fresh on the palate, with medium tannins which have substantially softened since my last tasting in 2009. The alcohol (listed as 13.5%) is seamless and the flavors mirror the nose. Solid in the middle, this wine makes a grand, smooth, lengthy exit. Very impressive, speaking volumes for the estate and (especially) for the structured vintage. No need to hurry with this one, but don't be timid either. Drink now-12/25.

Drinking nicely after some to soften up. Red fruit and a little char on the nose followed by a lovely medium bodied slightly grippy red liqueur. Nice finish, but it could probably use another few years to completely let loose. Still in all a really nice wine.

Continued to open and revealed a lot of depth and complexity over a floral nose. Tannins present but mellowed and balanced by good fruit and acidity. Drinking very well, I would say. Meeting all the high expectations one would have for a Gran Cru 2000 St Emilion.

Terroir of St Emilion (Roberson Wine, South Ken, London): Nice on the nose, elegant with light fruit and minty notes. On the palate it fails though, far too powerful and harsh tannins. And then you are left with a feeling of low concentration and no complexity. Disappointing for a 2000. 88

This wine keeps getting better. This bottle opened with a nice nose, promising a rich blend of fruits and leathery tastes. I decanted, lots of sediment. The first quaff was a real mouthful, dark fuit with overtones of leather, with the fruit coming through on a long finish. As the night went on, it got even smoother. A very nice wine.

My last bottle of this and may have showed a touch less pleasurable than a year ago. The aromas a bit muted and shy. The flavors seem more restrained, earthy and delicate. There is complexity, yet it's more along the lines of damp earth, tobacco, savory herbs and tea like. Another wine that requires food to turn up the pleasure factor. The finish is of medium length and a touch drying. I liiked it but did not love it.

[Tasted blind] Earthy, charred soil, funky oak, some dark fruit on the nose. Muscular, tart berry palate showing some old leather and incense tones and a little cedar/bell pepper as well. There is great acidity and body here along with the toasted earth and tartness makes me guess Ribera del Duero. Oh well, this was awesome!

Nice nose, deep red fruit, with a long, somewhat tannic finish when first opened. With time, the tannins faded and the wine really came together. The 2000 Bordeaux may finally be approaching drinkability?

Opened but not decanted for about 2 hours, then decanted at Joe's. Quite a bit of sediment, but solid color in the glass, almost no change of density or color at the meniscus. The nose was highly aromatic, more so than a typical Bord. The initial taste was borderline sweet, with more fruit than expected. The wine was quite full bodied and the bright fruit was week balanced with soft tannins and acidity. Drinking beautifully now, this has lots of life left. 92+

Deep red color, no sign of brown at the edge. Finally really opened up, full rich flavor, just a hint of tannins on the finish. This is turning into the kind of Bordeaux that I really like. But the 2000s do seem to take a long time to get to this point.

Slow o'ed for 6 hours and then double-decanted an hour before dinner. This wine was well integrated and showed the characteristics that I love so much in Bordeaux: good fruit combined with earthy, herbal aromas and flavors. And, low-enough alcohol to make it easy to drink. Just a great food wine. I'm sure it will last many more years, but it is in a good place right now.

Decanted for an hour before opening...Barnyard/earthy nose with plenty of leather. Picked up much more vegetal notes than fruit, but you could still sense some nice fruit. Continued to develop for several hours, and would reccomend decanting for a few hours before the first glass. Some dark chocolate note emerged at the very end of the bottle. I have 3 more bottles and will wait another year to open the next, but its ready to go now.

Drinking really well right now. Aromas of spice, cassis, dark fruits and damp earth. The Savory flavors mimic the nose. Tannins are melting and almost resolved. Drinking at peak for my palate. Very nice length with lingering flavors. I don't drink a lot of Bordeaux but Figeac is one of my favorite Chateau. The rebel of the right bank. What a steal this was for under $20 on release.

Decanted for about two hours. Nice earthy nose, complex flavors with a hint of the fruits that lie within. My wife said "barnyard, but good barnyard"; I would have stuck with earthy. But it is in any event a very good Bordeaux, reminding us why we drink this particular wine that is not sweet and not too fruit forward. A few more years and it will be even better.

From a decanter. Lovely nose of tobacco, cassis and chocolate covered cherries that I now tend to associate with well made Merlot-based Bordeaux. However on the palate, the personality of the wine doesn't come across as forcefully or as nicely as on the nose; there are flavors of blackberries and a bit of toasty oak with a hint of greenness, all in balance but in no way does the wine come across as anything special. I wonder if this is closed, or is just a tad underripe, because from the nose this seemed to have the making of an outstanding, and not just very good wine.

As soon as I popped the cork, I knew this was going to be good. Really nice aromas of violet and cherries wafted my direction. A small pour in the glass revealed a truly impressive nose with some charcoal and smoke notes. Slightly woodsy, but not oak.
Nice tannic backbone, but the wine is lush and complete - very drinkable now for my palate. Based on the nose, I'd say there is some upside here so I'll be holding my remaining bottles for several years.
According to CT, I paid $22 for this bottle. A tremendous QPR and a wine that has provided far more pleasure than some other wines 4 or 5 times the price.

Removed from cellar (not standing upright), decanted and allowed to rest in decanter for 1-2 hours. Deep red-garnet robe with garnet rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense aromas of black and red currants, meat and herbs d' Provence. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and big, slightly coarse tannins. The flavors mirror the nose and lead to a long, albeit slightly astringent finish. This is a wine which simply needs more time. Drink now-12/25.
A sidelight...The wine was decanted under candlelight (actually a tiny but bright battery-powered bulb). When the sediment became evident in the neck of the bottle, I used an unbleached coffee filter to decant thereafter. The sediment was significant, probably more than what I would expect for a wine this age.

Robust wine that can stand a long decant. 36 hours after a double decant (12 at cellar temp and 24 at room temp) this wine is still open for business and not a shred oxidized. Pretty bright cherry flavors with some tannic backbone, but pleasant and complex at the same time. A gem for what it cost.

A bit tight and I wish I had more time to let this decant. It began to come alive just as we were finishing the bottle. I remember plums and bright red and black ripe fruit showing as the evening wore along. This was not even close to being at its peak because those beautiful secondary flavors were barely present. By estimation it will really come to life in another 5-10 and should cellar well for 15+.

Earthy nose, quite closed. Decanted for several hours and it began to open up. Still pretty austere, but tannins not too overwhelming. Seems to have potential to be a very good, rounded, full fruit wine, but the flavors are still a bit restrained. Still, having said that, it is a very good wine even now once it begins to open. Probably best paired with things that will bring out the fruit flavors like cheese, raosted meats.

After opening, the nose had a heavy ash-tray thing going on. With an hour or so, it mellowed out considerably, and the fruit and smoothness came out. Wish I had more to hold on to - clearly a well made wine that should develop nicely.

My continued trial of some of the lesser 2000s. This has a slightly burnt characteristic on the nose with a bit of spice and some sweet fruit, perhaps some chocolate too. This one fills the mouth well but finishes rahter abruptly, cut off by the tannins. I think this has great potential, but probably shouldn't be opened for another 5 years. 90pts now, perhaps 2-4 more with maturity.

Another shame - decanted for eight hours and left in the decanter in the cellar for weeks. This held up open in the decanter (with a saucer on top) and was still drinkable with little sign of oxidation three days later. Yowsa!

For educational purposes, this wine was opened in La Cave d' Argent and serially tasted over the next eight hours (without food). Initially (the first three hours) the wine's temperature was low (cellar temp at the table). The final five hours were upstairs, with an average serving temperature of 65 degrees. At this point, the wine sports a deep ruby robe with red rim. The nose on this bottle is clean, with aromas which evolve over 5+ hours to show blackberries, currants, chocolate and roasted herbs. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, big ripe tannins (although still requiring some time to settle down) and flavors which parallel the nose (although I seem to get a floral sense on the palate that, amazingly, I do not get on the nose. The finish is medium-to-long and a touch astringent at this point. I truly wonder if this wine would merit a higher score had it been left overnight (like so many of the 2000 Bordeaux gems that I did allow to breathe overnight when they were tasted upon release in 2003).

After reading reviews of this wine, I did the most logical thing, simulate the aging process by uncorking the bottle, drinking a small quantity, vacu-vin the bottle and let it set under the counter in the dark for 4 days at room temperature. I did of course tasted the wine every day, and on the fourth day it peaked wonderfully. It showed how the wine will taste in 6-10 years. It was wonderful! So all of you complainers out there who poo-pooed this wine, have patience or get creative like I did.

The color of this wine is deep grape like purple. The nose has scents of blackberries, cherries and casis. The taste is delicious but not yet balanced with plenty of tannin and acid but an intense fruit of blackberries, cherries, tobacco and casis. This wine will not be peaking for at least three to five years. Hold!

I was disappointed. This wine is way too young and too tight. Despite Parker's estimate that it would be mature now, it clearly still needs 3-5 years. It has some good fruit, but overpowered by the tight tannin. The wine refused to open up, even after 1 hour of decanting and then some. I left some in the bottle to try tomorrow. No rating at this point.

This is still pretty tannic, but it has so much fruit, it will undoubtably turn out to be a real nice St. Emilion. Nose of plums, deep, rich and chewy red and black fruits, this lit'l beast needs 4 more years or so. I thought that it might be softer by now, but it is still prety tight.

I opened the wine about 1/2 hour before dinner and did not decant. The cork was barely saturated. I poured a small glass and the color was a dark impenetrable red. Very extracted looking. The nose was muted only hinting at fruit. In the mouth the wine displayed a very tanic quality which masked most of the fruit. At dinner the wine had barely opened up and never really showed what it is. It is not a powerhouse type of wine and there were some nice signs of the fruit underneath but it will take severl years to shine. I left a glass for tomorrow and will see what developes. I was premature by several years and will revisit the wine down the road someday. Overall the wine has great potential to be a sexy and alluring. 89 pts today with a long decant (1-3 hrs). Down the road it will be much better.

Bright disc. Opaque black/purple with purple rim. Clean nose, opening over 60 minutes to show currants, coffee, meat and chocolate aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, with large, slightly coarse tannins. Similar flavors as for the nose. Good acid/tannin/alcohol balance. Long, slightly astringent finish. Needs time, but clearly has the structure to age well.

The palate is rich, not overly complex, a little meaty, and rather substantial in size! A medium finish. I suggest to drink it within the next five to eight years. Realy nice!

Very consistent with my last tasting note (Yon Figeac Verticale).

Plum, burnt cherry, campfire, cacao nose. Nice mineral, plum, cherry palate with some grippy tannin. Pretty good, much more straight-forward than last time and a bit less interesting. Maybe a touch of TCA with air?

A bit backward, taking its time to open up. Good herbal, earthy palate without being funky. Excellent depth and finish, showing lots of potential. I think this still needs more time in the cellar, though it is drinking reasonably well now.

Big, dense, tight, even after double decanting. I don't think it will ever be very complex, or develop great finesse, but a solid Bordeaux. No hurry...

Old world style. Dirty and stinky aromas which I really like. Some band-aid flavor comes through. Very dry on the finish. Textbook Bordeaux.
