This is my first bottle of this delicious Syrah. Drank with slow cooker pot roast. The color was very inky. This mature Syrah was well balanced and concentrated with loads of fruit, licorice, herbs and earth. Absolutely loved it and happy to have a few more in the cellar. Drink or hold.

The nose was dark and rich with crushed, spiced blackberry, plum and violet pastilles, which were perfectly offset by smoky minerals, pepper and dusty dried florals. On the palate, I found soft, creamy textures, yet not weighty, with spicy baked cherry, raspberry, and cinnamon as zesty acids added liveliness and drenching black fruits. It finished long and spicy with lingering dark fruit, spice and the slightest hint of heat. Another remakable value from Carlisle, wow!

Part of a blind syrah tasting at Old Woodward Cellars. 12 bottles, although 2 were the same wine. We disclosed the first 6 bottles after tasting. The Carlisle was the# 7 tasted, the 1st bottle of the second 6. Immediately everyone commented that this was a great wine and was the #1 wine of the tasting. A 2014 Kind Lampyridae vineyard, was excellent, 93 pts and a clear #2 IMO. Also tasted a 2003 Domaine Janet Cote-Rotie, (maybe corked), 2 M.Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne, 89 pts, A 2004 Coach House BcH, 91pts, and several others. I was pleased that the Carlisle was such a standout and reinforces my opinion that Mike Officer makes great wine, especially for the price

Some great wines with the boy Scouts - Year 2 (BSA Fundraiser): Always nice to be able to drink a Carlisle with some age on it as I am terrible in not drinking them too early. Thanks Chris. Purple in color. The nose has a great note of black olive on it along with some black raspberries and a bit or pepper. On the palate, this is pretty ripe and still youthful. Black raspberries and a bit peppery. Great texture. Good balance. Delicious now but some upside left to cellaring it.

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, blueberry, smoked meat, milk chocolate and white pepper. Leads to a long, fruit-driven finish. Full bodied, dense and jammy. Served with beef stir fry.

I followed hoservins notes below and also vinturied and decanted for over an hour. Thought this would be too much wine for a Sunday Turkey dinner, but not so. Smooth dark fruit and rich and dense. Went esp. well with the dark leg meat. Drinking well right now and certainly has several good years left.

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, mocha, pepper and licorice. Blackberry jam, blueberry, licorice, milk chocolate, dried herbs and soft, fine tannins on the palate. Leads to a long, soft dry finish. Full bodied with a dense texture. Drinking well.

Dark, deep red in color with great extract to the extent that the glass is stained by the wine. Deep red and black fruit flavors that fill the mouth with fruit and underlying earth. Not spicy like some syrah but a great mouthful of fruit. Soft and mature without tanic edges, although there is enough acid to make the wine delightful and not overly sweet.

When first opened, was quite rich and even a bit thick and jammy - not really my favorite style. After an hour or two in glass, it backed off a bit and showed some of its nice tannic and acidic structure. Unfortunately, I recorked and didn't get to taste it again for a couple of days. It was still good, but was starting to show the first signs of oxidation. No score because I think I missed the prime drinking window.

Decanted and drank at Sundance Mine Co. - slightly tight out of bottle, spice and brambles, touch of heat. After 20 min, alcohol blew off, dark fruits, hint of oak, balanced by spice, smoke and meaty notes, smooth. Really enjoyable - was still improving at 90 min.

I continue to be impressed by the quality across the board of the Carlisile wines. This didn’t have the depth or complexity that many of their wines have, but still a fantastic expression of syrah. Nose showing violets, pepper, and mocha. Palate was rounder and approachable, with purple fruit that carried through a lengthy finish with some toast and vanilla bean. This didn’t ooze meat and pepper like some bottles, but was still present. A great one to drink while waiting patiently on the single vineyard bottlings. As my last bottle fell arpart on night 2, and this seemed approachable and expressive now, I'd say drink up and enjoy.

Thanksgiving 2011: My personal WOTN for Thanksgiving 2011, with the traditional Carlisle jamminess offset with nice lingering acidity. Blackberries and a hint of coffee on the nose, with a smooth, glycerine-like mouthfeel and flavors of blackberries and toasted oak.

Better on second night. On opening the oak was noticeable, but not overwhelming. Dark fruits dominate the nose, with vanilla and oak notes. On the first night I gave it a 90, second night a 92. Interesting, a little Jekyll and Hyde on this one. No formal notes on night 1, but performed very well with a great smoky meaty nose with classic syrah violets. Big palate, but balanced and refine, with lovely dense dark fruit with a meaty scorched earth tinge and pepper. lengthy mocha driven palate. I thought the oak still needed some time to integrate. On night 2, this had totally fallen apart. Little nose, some blue fruit and vanilla. Palate had little tannin, no acidity, but no obvious oxidation, heavy and syrupy fruit with lots of boysenberry. I've never perceived a Carlisle as syrupy before. Boring heavy oak finish with coffee. Odd. I'll split the difference and call it a 90. Night 1 was just like my previous bottle, which did well on night 2.

Decanted. Dark purple color. Initially quite oaky on the nose -- showing more oak than most young Carlisle Syrah seems to, as I recall. But the nose also revealed loads of blue fruit, pepper, and earth notes. In the mouth, focused and concentrated, with a strong emphasis on ripe blue and black fruits, a light meaty note, unapologetic peppery notes, and tight structure. With air, it became quite pleasant. Probably worth holding at least two more years to allow it to better integrate and settle down. A-
