  • Will this wine ever age? No signs of bricking; still quite youthful. Quite a bit of black fruits and spice. While not what I would expect from Beaujolais (too dark and roasted), it was fun to drink

86 pts

  • As before, but quite funky (in a good way). Acidity is a little lower than the other Château des Jacques 2009s I've tasted. Maybe a consequence of the 14% alcohol. Very good now.

  • This is aging better than my 2009s from the Kermit gang (and most others, too). It still has a lot of sweet primary fruit in black and crimson tones, piercing in intensity, but also quite acute and precise - an effective use of the grape's juiciness factor to make something fresh, but not glou-glou. It still has very robust tannins, neither especially elegant nor especially rustic, just solid.

  • Drinking extremely well tonight. Deep dark color. Nose that balances fruit and secondary notes. A mix of meaty, farmyard and rubbery. A wonderful mix of Pinot, Syrah and Gamay at this age. Balanced acidity and tannin, great finish with leafy notes.
Great mature Beaujolais, wonderful now but has many years to go if you want.

  • Substantial fruit and complexity not to mention the ability to age well (drinks great on day 2). There is an oak component to the complexity. Well balanced too in a large for Gamay scale. Drinks great now but should hold for another 5 or more years.

  • A real disappointment. Woody, stern, and boring. Gives no pleasure, so on the second night I dumped the remaining 3/4 of the bottle. There probably was some decent fruit used for the wine, but the oak treatment just obliterated it.

  • Very nice and expansive on night-1, falling apart somewhat on night-2 (oxidized). This wine is primed for drinking now, and I don't believe it has many years to go. It gives a broad and full midpalate (expansive again), with a somewhat shorter finish. Everything is fully integrated and we're moving into tertiary notes. Start to wave goodbye to the fresh, vibrant Beaujolais fruit, and say hello to more of a Pinot-like, smooth operation. Transparency isn't what you'd hope for. Very tasty nevertheless, and great w/ foodstuff (particularly on night-1).

  • An Evening in Hamilton: [Tasted Blind, followed over 24 hours] This pours medium ruby with ever so slight bricking. The nose on this is totally primary and quite shut down showing dark cherry, violet, and some twiggy earth. Really not much there. The palate is super dominated by the structure. This is really quite tannic (medium plus at least with medium acid). There is also alcohol noted on the finish that strikes me as 14%. This combination made this nearly impossible to guess. Structure and alcohol pointed to Nebbiolo, the color to Syrah. there were also thoughts of Sangiovese (which the fruit profile and color didn't match much at all), or Sourthen Rhone (which the color and structure didn't match). All in all this was quite a poor showing. Not an attractive wine at all and difficult to determine if it is shut down or just a poor wine.

  • Limited notes as tasted on day 2 with a little too much oxygen overnight. Good color, showing some signs of age (but modest for the 12 years), moving more towards the Rhone from Beaujolais, good acidity and structure, nice finish.
Drinking well, but might be better in 5 years.

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour but continued improving until final drop. I opened this by mistake, thinking it was the MàV La Roche of the same vintage (which I had previously found more forward and friendly than CdRochegrès). But only 9 months on from my previous, zipped-up-tight bottle, this was a wonderful pleasure. Admittedly, there isn't much scent on offer yet, even tasting from Zalto Burgundy glasses, but with coaxing, there is enough iron filings/rust and earthy/stony rumbling to herald a very serious wine in the making. The entry opens with more iron and earth, followed by a plush, silky/velvety-textured carpet of juicy loganberry. Acid gain on the mid-palate, before a very refined, monolithic wall of soft tannins moves in towards the finish. Super-delicious, rich MàV of the highest quality, edging into maturity but with at least a decade to go as a virile, muscular wine. 92(-93... even 94?)P

  • Dark garnet. Fragrant plum and sandalwood. Round entry, dark fruit profile with lovely vibrancy and dashes of spice. Medium bodied, good final.

Really in a nice place and showing no signs of fading. A shame I only have one more of these.

  • From 75cl, good cork, decanted 30 minutes, but didn't change much over following 2 hours. Were it not for my own (positive) experience with CdJ's 2009 "La Roche" on 28.07.2018 and the glowing TNs below, I'd dismiss this as a cooked hot-year wine of little distinction. Let's just imagine I'd tasted this blind: plummy/sloe-like scent; medium-bodied entry, inexpressive dark-red cooked fruit; some hard, unresolved tannins on the otherwise short and forgettable finish. Hmm... Perhaps a 50/50 mix of a poor 2003 C9dP and a 2009 villages Gevrey with plenty of "instant sunshine" added from the sugar-packet? Hoping for miracles for my remaining 4 bottles, 85P? No, surely this must be at least 87(?)P

  • Very good. Blind, competed with a PC Burgundy from the same vintage. Earthy, fragrant, slightly ferrous.

  • Maturing black cherry throughout with faint earth hints. Held up well over several hours, but starting to lose some brightness that I enjoyed more a year ago.

  • Fairly deep ruby-garnet core. Shy nose, showing some vanilla, ink and ripe red fruit. Medium bodied, balanced acidity and relatively low amount of soft tannins. The oak is apparent upfront, but I think the wine will ultimately benefit from it. This is still remarkably young, and seemingly built for the long haul. The cherry fruit is particularly beautiful and pure, if a bit discreet. If you have several bottles, I would enjoy a few now and leave the rest alone.

  • I bought 6 of these on release and I think this is the 4th I've opened. The first three were pretty good but eons away from great. This one was different: the wood has finally begun to integrate, the mid-palate has filled out, the fruit has mellowed, and the minerals are sparkling. This is aging more like a nice Cote Charlonnaise Burg than Bojo, but it has a lovely tart cranberry note that reminds you that it's Gamay you're drinking.

  • It seems like folks are drinking through their oh-nines, now that we're a decade out, so I thought I'd follow on the trend. The color seems an opaque brown-raspberry, swirls calling up mostly oak in the first few minutes. After some time, I pick-up a green scent, of celery, broccoli or something of that ilk. It's turned into a complex bouquet with floral perfumes, wood, sour fruits, and fresh greens -- reminiscent of a smoothie at a heath bar. On the palate, this drinks like its in its prime time - great mid-palate, a zing on the tip of the tongue, lots of sweet and sour and tangy flavors zipping around. There's an extreme finish, and after a minute, the slightest burn of alcohol on my already scratchy throat. But it's hard to deny the flavor intensity, balanced mouthfeel, and overall pleasure here. If you have a bottle, I'd definitely urge an opening to try this at its prime.

  • Perfect storage at Wine Society, perfect cork. No signs of maturity and quite youthful. Ripe, rich and not really Gamay like. However I must admit that I'm not so familiar with Moulin-a-Vent. There is a quite a bit of spice on this. I would have guessed grenache from the Rhone. I suspect the 2009 heat is having quite an impact on this. Perhaps lacking a little freshness for my palate. Very good quality though.

  • Nice enough, but doesn't excite. No signs of bricking, just a nice deep red with a ruby rim. The structure is quite prominent with very subtle fruit. Lots of oak, tea and smoke. I liked this better on release and wonder if the oak will ever integrate. UPDATE: I left the remains in the fridge for 3 days and then revisited. What a transformation! The harsh, coarse, smoke/tar/oak had dissipated and a smooth, complex, layered, Côte de Beaune-like wine remained. Perhaps I will let my remaining bottles age for another 10 years.

  • Ripe black cherry, maturing gracefully with good weight and good+ balance. Very good now, better than when last tasted in 2016.

  • Opened 3 hours without decant. Deep red color. Completely enjoyable from bright fruit with earth and spice components on the nose through a lengthy finish with acidity and some mineral. Not a contemplative wine, but very refreshing, interesting enough and so great with food. No signs of deline.

  • Similar to previous notes. Drinking very well - lashings of dark red fruit with lively acidity supporting a medium final. Great refreshment and impeccable balance. Such good value wine - cannot recall anyone not enjoying this over the 7 or so years I have been going through my stash.

  • Tasted double blind; guessed ~8 year old cru Beaujolais from Morgon or Moulin a Vent. Juicy but full-bodied with serious, mouth-drying tannins. Very grapey with light aromas of dried oregano and earth.

  • A puzzling wine for me. This is the bottle I've held on the longest to so far in my short wine collecting days. I bought it in December 2010, and just opened it up yesterday (decanting it 2 hours before drinking). I know how ageworthy the cuvée is meant to be, and have read all the CT comments over the years. Once it opened a bit, the nose was wonderful. On the palate, I found it overall a little muted and 'dumb.' I don't know if it's still too young, or if that's just the way the wine will continue to be. There is good structure and depth, but the flavors seem a little muddled and perhaps just a tad too extracted (?). I enjoyed it (my wife more so), but overall found it difficult to justify the initial critical hype which I'll admit led me to buy it in the first place.

  • Perfect bottle for stepmom’s 85th in double magnum. Enjoyed by dozens over the course of 3 hours. Great fruit and body. Time to drink these up!

  • Good showing. Improved with air.

The fruit, centered on black cherry, is quite concentrated for Beaujolais. Even more notable is the intense streak of iron-like minerality. Damp-earth aromas and black-tea-like tannins add a sense of sophistication.

Sorry that I cannot predict how this will evolve from here, but it's good to drink now.

  • Opened. Consistent with previous experience. Dull and overstructured. Fruit not much in evidence. Sounds like this was delicious on release but aging has done no favours whatsoever. Made a nice wine sauce with it.

  • The wine is intensely dark. Some dark red fruit like raspberry. A lot of structure. I have a few more bottles, and I hope the wine improves with time.

  • Half hour decant. Medium dark garnet with some clearing and bricking at rim. Raspberry compote nose with some spice. Silky entry and vibrant acidity. Blossoms quickly to a medium bodied, well balanced and slighly high toned raspberry profile. Some fine tannins on the medium final.

This is very enjoyable wine that does very well with lighter fare. Balanced, refreshing, and good interest and complexity. In good years this is a very rewarding purchase.

  • I’ve tried plenty of these now and never been very excited by them. Less fun than Beaujolais but less good than Pinot Noir. Sort of acidic and berryish. Bit of herbs. Too much structure for the content.

  • Tasted blind yesterday with another 2009 Beaujolais, a 2010 Burgundy (Beaune), and a 2013 New Zealand pinot (Waipara). I was struck by the darkness and richness of the fruit. In the glass it's almost black and completely opaque. I guessed the New Zealand pinot (not that I associate those characteristics with New Zealand pinots, but I had to choose something).

Tasted again today (new bottle). Dark and jammy with lots of spice and some espresso and funk. Smooth black cherry -- deep and brooding, not exuberant. Tannins are still pronounced. These descriptions are not what comes to mind when I think of Beaujolais. But it seems that the 2009 vintage throughout Beaujolais and Burgundy had exceptional concentration and ripeness and lower acidity than usual, which helps explain this wine. This may age into an exceptionally profound wine, but it is a disappointment to me drinking now because it lacks the openness and friendliness and simple delightfulness that I associate with cru Beaujolais. My girlfriend, on the other hand, liked it because of the lower acidity.

These tastings, which I had hoped would sharpen my ability to discern cru Beaujolais from Burgundy and other pinots, ended up more a lesson on the paramount significance of vintage.

I have three more bottles of this wine, and I intend to hold them for quite a while longer.

  • This is still tight and monolithic and needs loads of time. I'm a little concerned that the pronounced wood may outlive the fruit, but the concentration is such, and the minerality striking enough, that I remain hopeful for something special down the road. This is a very serious Bojo still a decade (at least) from its apogee.

  • Popped and poured and enjoyed over two nights. This was surprisingly closed on night one showing only its gruff exterior of acid and structure. I recorked and saved half of the bottle for the next night and the showing was similar to my experience with this wine about a year ago. A mineral streak runs through the wine but is robed by silky berry fruit. This will be a very long lived Bojo and is quite impressive. I’ll hold off on my remaining bottles for a few years.

  • Compared to both the JPB wines, I felt that this was the more superior wine, though like a friend put it - the style is a tad modern for his liking. I could understand why - this started off with a vanillin nose that reminded one of oak - classy, high-quality oak at that which reminds of modern wine-making style. As it shed its vinillin nose with more time in the glass, notes of chocolate, smoke, dark-red cherries emerged. At this juncture, this was very similar to the Richard Rottiers from a taste & palate-feel perspective. Very good wine-making, can't wait to taste this again in time to come after it's shed its "baby-fat" and gain more complexity...

  • Opened 45 minutes prior. Clear garnet faint bricking. Cherry nose. Lovely wine - silky entry transitioning quickly to a full dark cherry mid-palate with great acidity, some sweetness, and fine oak inflections. Good length.

Best showing yet for this wine - superb balance and good complexity and refreshment. Superb at almost any price but the cost of these (around 23 francs) makes this wine just a ridiculously good value. Buy without hesitation in good vintages.

  • I find oak a little too prevalent in this bottle. The nose is pleasant with black fruit and blueberry notes but also strong oak. To the taste, nice acidity but the fruit is quickly masked by oak. Also a little hot. There is a pleasant nutmeg aftertaste that lingers for minutes. Perhaps paired correctly this would fare well.

  • Better than the last bottle. Still a lovely nose and deep fruit with emerging complexity, but here the fruit was bolder and more concentrated. Still oaky but I have hope this will improve with a few more years' time. I suspect this is still a decade from peak.

  • Garnet with clearing rim. Opulent bouquet showing dark fruit, spice and some sweet caramel notes. Very smooth on the entry, slowly spreads throughout the palate and pulses with an acidic, dark cherry core with hints of spiced wood and some floral overtones. Suggestion of minerality but not as much as I've previously noted in this wine. Fine tannins well integrated and the faint skein of oak is very well judged. If I was to quibble I might say the alcohol (14%) was just a tad too prominent in the ensemble.

This was a superb bottle. I see no signs of this wine starting to lose any of its appeal. Everything is exceedingly well balanced and there is lovely refreshment and complexity here. I will look forward to going through my other bottles over the next 4 years or so.

  • Half hour splash decant. Dark garnet. Subdued nose. Smooth attack, cough syrup quinine note on brambly red fruit. Tannins well integrated and a spicy moderate final.

Went very nicely on its own post-dinner and I think I enjoyed it most in this role. Still showing a great deal of complexity and balance. Superb value.

  • Checked in on my first bottle. Knockout red-berry nose is the best part of this bottle. On the palate, this simply is not ready. Although the fruit is concentrated and impressively deep, this has very pronounced oak and the structure remains prominent. Drinks more like a coarse Red Burg than a typical fruity Beaujolais. I'm hopeful these will blossom with more age -- but I think it will take 5 years or more for the oak to integrate, if it ever does.

  • I only got my hands on 3 of these and waited until tonight to pop the first. Huge aroma of raspberries upon opening. No decanter but lots of swirling. Lots of Blackfruits and mocha with a firm mineral and medicinal formata. Super silky and smooth. I love cru-boo but rarely stray from Morgon. This is the first Moulin a vent I really loved! Bravo. Served with the obvious...grilled chicken. Finished by itself.

  • This is based more on potential than for current enjoyment. It's a black hole of a wine. Dense. Medicinal. Mineral. First day tried using a Coravin. Not much fun. Tannic isn't the right word, but certainly not open. Three days later, after neglecting it on the kitchen counter, tried another glass using the Coravin, and it was more approachable. (Not to say approachable, but at least you get a sense the wine has a high ceiling. And the idea that a Coravin stops a wine from aging needs to be dispensed with, btw.) In some ways this wine reminds me of Brittan's Pinot Noirs. Black wines, quite extracted and maybe/hopefully/possibly balanced. David Schildknecht liked both wines and I'm generally a fan of his palate, so I'll consider this a bet on him. Hold off on trying another bottle until 2018.

  • A very "rich & classy" nose, of vanilla, blackberries, herb spices. Palate was equally impressive, with very good depth, balance, structure, freshness. Long, long finish. This would've been even better, possibly my WOTN if not for the slight bitterness towards the end which hopefully, will be better resolved with more bottle-age. Won't be surprised if this easily last another decade or two...

  • Opened 1 hour prior. Silky smooth, fine tannic lattice supporting a wonderful mid-palate and final of crushed raspberries and violets. Balance is near perfect with acidity suggesting these have another 5-8 years in front of them.

In a great place right now and extremely refreshing. This is a wine to serve doubters of the capacity of Beaujolais to make great wine. Wonderful with food - superb pairing with vegetarian lasagna.

  • Second bottle tasted. Good red color, no brown. An excellent Beaujolais -- one of the best I've tasted. Complex, well balanced. Could pass for a fine Bordeaux or Burgundy. Good structure and fruit which has mellowed with the oak and minerals. Holding up well. Should be good another 4 or 5 years.

  • Consumed over two days, note from day two. Nose: Medium expressiveness, gamey meat, pomegranate, cranberry, and a hint of smoke, Palate: Medium bodied, gamey meat flavors, tart red fruit with a really tight grip in the back-end. Finish: Medium plus length dominated by mouth puckering tannic grip with tart red fruit flavors. My last of two bottles but I believe this three year Beaujolais could really use a couple more years in the bottle before reaching it's peak - really an untamed beast at the moment with some real potential.

  • this was fantastic and really hit the spot on a warm summer night on the east end of LI.

  • A bit too dark and deep for gamay? But a lovely drink with salmon.

  • Property acquired by Louis Jadot. Vineyards extend over parts of Moulin-a-Vent and Morgon. 14% alcohol by volume. Deep purple-red. Nearly opaque. Raspberry fruit; juicy. A bit of grip on the finish. Primary fruit at present. With age it might reveal cocoa or mocha and florals., Attractive enough that I have the impulse to keep filling my glass. Best on the first evening opened. IMO this is the best Beaujolais Cru I've had in several years. Already very approachable.,

  • Does not have the appearance of a traditional Beaujolais, much fuller and darker in color. Nose had some Burgundian and Pinot Noir notes. Taste had some Chateau du Pape hints. Some black pepper upon first opening and then after an hour the pepper disappeared. Fruit was mostly red, sweet and the tannins well integrated. Heard these were tight upon opening in the first year or two, drank very well now with 3 years of age.

  • Dark dark garnet. Stemmy dusty nose with smokey fruit. Delicious well balanced fruit with acids and super-charged Beaujolais/ gamy character. Yet another killer 09 Beaujolais for a great price.

  • Several layers of red and black fruits. Touch of light pepper. Balanced acid, strong tannin and very impressive fruit.

  • This is not your traditional Beaujolais - It's an amazing wine but made as if the Gamay were Pinot Noir grapes - made like a Burgundy. Big nose of spice and red fruit; velvet texture with medium tannins, flavours of black cherry, spice and a bit of vanilla. The finish is medium in length. This wine will only get better - would love to put it in a Pinot Noir tasting in 5 years - it will blow many Burgundies away.

  • The kaleidoscopic nose that I found on first pour mellowed into a more linear over-caramelized sugar and tart red-fruit profile after several minutes in air. You can sense the concentration and abundance of this vintage in the glass, more so the site and atypical oak treatment by this producer. Nice depth there. On the palate, this pops for a wine of its stature and packing, and it is packed. The weight stays adroit as the wine spreads wide and far quick as quicksilver, tart cranberry red fruit flavors preceding the liquid front that leaves a crust of crushed stones and sour tannin in its wake. This is as fully fleshed and balanced as just about anything I've tried from region -- all nooks and crannies of the room explored and marked. I expect this will show more interest and complexity as the oak sheds itself and the other chemical reactions gain sufficient activation energy.

  • Decanted 1 hour, served at 14C. Bright purple, a bit dumb at first but opened over an hour or two to show violets, cherry and raspberry. Round on entry, blossoming to a well balanced tapestry of acid, intense fruit and enough oak and drying tannins to suggest excellent structure to age another 10 years. This is sooooooo smooth.

  • Wow, the darkest of all the 09 Beaujolais that Ive popped to date. This wine is packed with fruit for the region. That said all the classic hallmarks (besides next level concentration/extract) are there. Acidity, freshness, tannin all there in spades and in relative balance for the the fruit right now. That said this wine begs for some time in the cellar. A worthwhile experience for a bottle, but tuck a few of these away for a few years and lets see what develops...

  • Decanted 1 hour, served at 16C. Consistent with my previous note. This has a heady bouquet that hints at the bursting palate of extract laden wine to follow. Difficult to parcel out the flavours as there is so much going on, but this seems all tucked in with no angularity destroying the balance. Dry, silky tannins and a refreshing, supple acidity are hallmarks, as is an overall slight sweetness. Very nice and immensely refreshing.

  • Popped and poured. Medium-plus dark violet hue, youthful. Powerful nose of spicy black and red fruits, iron, raw meat, minerals, a touch of green and perhaps some heat (almost shows reductive, as the "funkier" aromas certainly veer towards the realm of sewage at points). As it aerates, more herbal elements emerge along with an interesting note of soapstone. Medium-plus body. As the nose foreshadows, this is a bruiser of a Beaujolais on the palate, with huge flavors of blackberry, loganberry, black cherry, ripe stem, smoke, and a lasting impression of saline minerals. Plus acidity and a wall of brutal tannins that might otherwise obscure the fruit if not so pronounced...good thing this is 2009! Mineral-laden finish shows quite a bit of length. And although, due to both flavor profile and scale, this could have originated from further south on the Rhone, it still possesses that certain, special degree of liveliness through a combination of acidity, minerals, and mystique that truly personify and characterize the upper-tier of 2009 Beaujolais. So much structure even for Moulin-à-Vent, this will easily go for 10-15+ and should be quite rewarding for those who have patience.

Quick addition: Worth noting that 1/2 of a bottle re-tasted on night 3 had completely fallen apart and was undrinkable, which was somewhat shocking considering my initial assessment. 10-15+ is probably an overly optimistic aging projection on my part as a few "lesser" examples of 2009 Beaujolais performed well much longer than this. Either way, I have 2 more bottles to track and the 2nd isn't going to be opened for at least 3 years, so we'll see.

  • Subtle it ain't, at least for now. Almost new-world nose of chocolate, dark fruits and cherries. Some pepper as well. Palate displays medium intensity but fills the mouth. Red and dark fruits and some barely noticeable astringency on the finish. Good QPR but not an outstanding wine yet. Would be great for a hedonistic BBQ with friends. Let's revisit in a few years...

  • I had this with left over steak puttanesca on 7/3/11. It had a ripe, bold bouquet of cherry, blackberry, cola, and mocha aromas. The palate was ripe and way over oaked with flavors that followed the nose…too much oak for me to even enjoy. Maybe it will integrate in a few years?

  • Popped and poured, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Dark red fruit - black cherry, pomegranate, and raspberry, smoke, and minerals - sea salt. Palate: Light to medium bodied, rusty minerals, hints of dark red fruit, a bit harsh towards the back-end. Finish: Medium length, tart red fruit and minerals. Improved consistently over the 3 hour drinking period leading me to believe the best days for this wine lie in the future. Right now I find it to be a complex and interesting wine that just lacks a deliciousness factor that I look for in a truly outstanding wine.

  • Decanted 2 hours, served at 18C. Dark purple red. Full on bouquet of sweet macerated red and black fruits, a note of poivron, and the slightest hint of classy oak. Round, voluptuous entry, beautiful build to a mid-palate of full extract red fruit that is sweet and round with a wonderful acidic lattice holding up the flavours and just the slightest drying silky tannins making themselves known just prior to the onset of a long pulsating final. This is really gorgeous and will only get better. Definitely will buy more of this and enjoy over the next 10 years or so.

  • Initial nose is of twisting, thick, dark smoke enfolding sweet black cherry and gentle spice. Charred wood, rubber, trace-treacle. The ripeness and oak remind of top S African Shiraz. In the mouth a firm, promising, dry tone to that cherry – the fruit is natural/real as vs Gamay artificiality. Charred wood again, plus coffee. Briefly quite rounded and mouthfilling; then the structures narrow the mouthfeel. Disjointed in a good way: the structures need time to come into congruence; by when the oak should integrate (this cuvee has a great record for that). A narrow seam of pure, sweet blueberry becomes apparent in the finish – nice. And then it finishes... fresh – oh yes! The structures and the balance remind me of the best 2007 S Rhones. Next, the aroma morphs to brown-tinted little blackcurrants, elderberries and white lily! The finish lingers with the ripe-yet-fresh blue-black fruit, making me shiver with pleasure. I’d imagine that most people would prefer the Liger Bel-Air La Roche at the moment on account of its greater density and length. However, this wine has superior naturality of flavour, refreshment value and potential for evolution. Whilst the primaries are the main show at the moment, it’s going to lose its flesh, helping reveal its terroir aspects. It will also show beautiful angles on account of its perfectly ripe, finessed tannins and its dreamy acidity. It will pour over the palate without inhibition on account of its purity. From integrated aroma, to crackle of natural energy, it will caress the soul. 94 now. 96-97 between 2016 and 2021.

  • On the nose, gamay with a little meat/animal -- leaning away from the red a little towards darker fruit. In the mouth, showing good acid and some tannin and good dark red fruit. Good now, should improve over time.

  • Stunning, is this beaujolais or village level burgundy. Sappy, rich and palate-staining red fruits are so layered and precise, taking on a meaty/peppery quality in the background. The forefront is all sap though, just outstanding.

  • Opened 1 hour prior to pour, served over 2 hours.

New world nose of strawberry and rhubarb, then ...wait... hello rubber, anise, petrol. Well structured all around, from the great acidity that follows this wine through out the palate to the firm tannin and ample fruit. Finish is 20 seconds; for a Cru Beaujolais... this is uncharted territory for me at least.

Wow, this Gamay is probably underrated at 92 and undervalued at this 'expensive' price point.

  • Maybe I had an off bottle, but I've had almost a dozen 2009 Beaujolais, and I found this one simple, especially at the $32 price point. But given the rave tasting notes from esteemed members of the wine community, I won't rate it.

  • Candied cherries with some tartness. Not as complex or inviting as the previous bottle. Still, it's firm structure and depth of fruit suggest this will improve with a few years of bottle age.

  • Fantastic, age-worth BoJo. Loads of raspberry and pomagranite fruit hints, with copious chalk and minerals. Hang time worthy of Michael Jordan. This has the structure to age.

  • 2009 Beaujolais: My WOTN and the groups #2 as a few people despised this wine. It was distinct from the others. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is deep, gamey with dark cherries. Also some earthy clay notes. It also had some oak showing which was surprising. Nice texture on the palate. Dark cherries and minerals. Plenty of tannins. This is a serious wine. If served blind, I would be stumped. It was also delicious and in need of a couple years of cellaring. Impressive. Also the most expensive wine at $33.

  • Not really sure what to make of this. Starts out pleasant with bright red fruits, cinnamon and other baking spices and touches of earth, but then the oak very quickly takes over and this becomes woody as hell. With even more air this settles down into an equilibrium of bright fruit accented by spicy oak notes - tasty enough with pork, but not particularly exciting and I was struggling to reconcile this with the jawdropping praise I've read for this wine.
