Decabted to get rid of sediment, then decanted for 2 hours. Certainly didn't need that much time but errands took too long.
Anyway, great wine, very well made at 13/14 years old. To me this is medium to medium-full bodied, which is very nice given the plethora of jammy fruit bombs these days. This is still a little over the top, but in a good way. Had as a Friday night wine with the wife after the birth of our son Hudson, so her first wine back in a while.
Day 2, found its balance, seemed good and enjoyable the first night but now this is integrated and balanced. Glad to have some 2019's on their way, and will keep an eye out for more vintages as they come up.

Really like this cab. Decanted for 30 min. The nose has heavy hints of cedar and black cherry. The front of the palate hits you with a sweet black cherry before acidity and tannins take over. This wine would be perfectly paired with a heavy red meat dish. This wine will be good for many years to come.

Bring a Good Bottle at St Gen's (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Purple red color. PNP, followed a glass over an hour. The nose is better than the palate, offering blackberries, green pepper, and fresh herbs and oak. The palate comes off rather angular and a bit over the top, but it's really the balance that is suffering now as there's a lot of heat and oak as well. I enjoyed this better a couple years ago.

Medium purple color (looked younger than an '08). Cherry, dark cherry, saline on nose. On palate, cherry, orange peel, and cassis. Medium body, very good structure - this is built to age - medium acidity & nice tannic grip. Guessed Napa Cab ('09/'10). Almost went with '09 Left Bank Bordeaux from a modern producer. This tied for WOTN with an '06 Muga Rioja Gran Reserva. 92+ [this held up well 48 hours later when re-tasted].

After a rough day unpacking wine and putting bottles in cellar slots -- talk about a 1% problem -- I decided to treat my self. Wow!!
Splash decanted and drank over next 3 hours. Moderate, fine sediment. Nearly opaque ruby-red with margins hinting of future orange. Initially, integrated red and dark berries; smooth and pleasant. As time went on -- and as food entered the picture -- the spice came out. At 3 hours, the front is tart, spicy plumb with licorice and raspberry overtones. Still medium-full body. Finish is very long and ever-changing.
A spectacular wine.

Robert's 50th (A Tastey Restaurant): Loved this wine. Purple in color. The nose has cassis, blueberries, vanilla but also a nice mineral undertone. Decanted for an hour and enjoyed with some Piave and a filet. Definitely a favorite of the group. Incredibly smooth and well defined. Mostly French (& A Few More) Offline at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Purple color. I think this was decanted for 2 hours. Followed glass for an hour. Black and blue fruits on the nose, spices, lots of oak. The palate is full bodied, glycerin, oak, dusty, developed some earthiness, young, slightly bitter, oak. This is showing a lot of wood right now. Hopefully some time will integrate it better, maybe. 89(+?)pts.

From earlier in the holiday season and now being logged out of inventory with a fond memory of a deep and delicious Cab that has mostly integrated its oak. Really smooth, long flavors with a melange of dark fruits and a touch of mocha. Has a sweetness to it, but not cloying or overripe, juicy enough to keep reaching for, improving over the course of several hours in a decanter. One of the stars of an excellent stretch of bottles. It seems a little silly to have 2/3 of my cab supply come from Outpost and Rivers-Marie but compared to the rest of Napa the QPRs are good, I like the style, and they are ready to drink or hold as desired.

Blind Tasting of 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Thomas Rivers Brown: A dark, hedonistic nose that includes every tasting note one wants from Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of blackberry, black currant, anise, and brambly raspberry are lifted by lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, and sage. These aromas are backed by dark chocolate and tobacco. The palate is equally impressive and seductive. And even though it's dense and concentrated with huge tannins, the wine is extremely drinkable.

- Garnet color with fast forming legs. It's in total harmony with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish - Stunning. A strong bit of heat upon opening which quickly disappeared after an hour in the open bottle. Luscious, dense fruit with enough tannic structure to make it polished and infinitely smooth. Just delicious with a long silky finish.

Pop and pour drank over 4 hours (during a blackout). Some cherries to go along with some really rich darker fruits. Decent acidity and while it is noticeably tannic the tannins are very smooth making this great to drink now. Surprisingly lush and open for mountain fruit. FWIW I think this one is a notch above the Rivers-Marie from the same same year at this stage.

P&P then followed over 3 days. Just wanted to test one out. All of the pieces are there- well-structured with great fruit concentration- It's just not ready. The mountain tannins are huge, and hard to get around at this point. The wine should be outstanding in 4+ years.

This is a deep, dark, well balanced cab with dark fruit and hints of licorice on the nose and some excellent blackberry, cassis, plum fruit flavors. The fruit is sweet but the wine is dry. After opening and running the wine through a Decanthus it has noticeable tannins but the overall balance of the wine is outstanding. Very good acidity, a touch of minerality and beautiful fruit make this wine terrific with food and should help it last for years although, with a little air, this is very enjoyable now. After the wine stayed open for a couple of hours I closed it with argon and a stopper and drank the rest the next day. The tannins had resolved to a slightly dusty note and the wine was truly outstanding. Don't hesitate to enjoy now, but it will also last for 10+ years with no problem.

Dark forward fruit with balanced oak and impressive acidity. Very similar profile to other Outpost Cabs I've had. Not as complex as The True but very well made and delicious. Surprising minerality which was quite refreshing. Strong structure for aging but wonderful tonight.

Had a glass, re corked, and put in fridge. Notes from day 2- seems to have come together overnight, a little less angular. Blueberry, cherry and honey on the nose. Good mouthfeel. It's a powerful mountain wine with dark berries and rocks/minerals- its tight and focused. However, i feel like its going to have a certain elegance... once the tannins calm down. Give it time in the cellar, a few years for me.

First bottle of Outpost that I've tried, and I like it quite a lot. It's a bit tight at present, but there are no objectionable notes that need to be resolved over time. Instead, it is more a matter of giving this some time to integrate and polish a few rough edges, notably the tannins on the finish. Nice balance overall with a touch of sweetness kept in check by an appropriate level of acidity. I suspect I could score this a few points higher in several years. Excellent wine for the price.

This wine is inky, rich with lots of deep berry flavors, has an amazing structure for such a young wine. It benefited from a 30 minute decant, longer may have proved beneficial, but the desire to enjoy overwhelmed any logical thought to wait. Given some time to rest this will be a truly amazing wine in the years to come

Decanted. Drank over two days. Medium/dark blood red red. Mostly clear. Initially the nose was closed but after a couple hours it started giving hints of dark cherry, boysenberry, mint or perhaps black licorice, and wet stone. Flavors included dark ripe fruit, wild berry, clay, spice and a hint of tobacco on the back palate. Rich mouthfeel. Medium finish, with very fine-grained tannins. Opened way too young, this wine should really develop nicely with a few years in the cellar.

Dark abut very round. A touch of smoke and charcoal on the nose. Lots of good fruit, feels very classic for Howell Mountain. Dark plum, long smooth finish. Not sure I'd want to age this too long, it's drinking great now.

Needs a little more time in the bottle.

Consumed at the winery. Still very young and relatively closed, still a strong core of fruit and some dark cherries. Fantastic finish. Looks like a winner
