The 1969 LLC which we had standing up for four days was popped two hours before drinking. After four hours it was singing. A great bottle despite the reputation of the vintage. Fabulous deep colour. Residual dark fruits, earthy, gravelly notes with an excellent mouth feel and a good finish.

Ard & David’s 50th birthday dinner (Chez David, Amsterdam, NL.): Very top shoulder level. Mature but lively appearance; lively nose, masculine even, oak and fruit, good depth; quite a structured palate, fully upright, fresh and harmonious, quite tannic still; good resonance and length. Very different style from the Ducru which preceded it, similar quality.

Chateau Leoville Las Cases Vertical with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Colour shows the age of the wine and maybe it does take 40+ years for LLC to develop a brownish tint. Still very healthy wine, herby touches, cedar and menthol. Quite a bit of presence here and length ( probably more than the 1975) . Not the most impressive wine but definitely impressive in terms of result and longevity especially from a poor vintage. 90-92

The cork was soaked right through and crumbled when pulling It but the wine is still alive. Cedar and cigar box on the nose, there's just the last remnants of fruit showing on the palate, it is mostly secondary tones now, there's little weight or body here, but from a poor vintage, this is better than I expected, it could be a steal from an auction if all the other bottles are like this

The nose is clean, expressive and slightly green. There are aromas of cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and sweet earth. It has about as much flesh as Kate Moss. With air it puts on a tiny bit of weight but the palate remains compact, showing light perfumed fruit, savoury nuance and some prevalent acidity on the finish.
