From 750. Honeyed with fine lift and stone fruit and tangerine peel nuances. Fine acidity and excellent length. Lovely with cheese plate. I’m a sucker for aged sweet wines and this scratched the itch admirably.

Birthday party. A great Sauternes, with most of the things on the right side: good botrytis smell, saffron, honey and also some Riesling notes. The mouth isn’t so long, acidity almost gone. I think is the moment to drink them all.

Always a wild card with older bottles picked up on the secondary market, but I've had good success with stickies since they are pretty resilient. This bottle was a winner. Darker orange tinged color, but very flavorful in the glass and nicely weight to the palate. Brighter apricot and honey, can be a switch-hitter between cheese/savory or dessert pairing. Engaging. This is why I like hunting for Sauternes. Very good tonight, but will continue to do well given the balance. Best Sauternes I've had in a while for overall experience. Some other more recent pours from '03 Guiraud & '03 LTB, for ex much more heavy and one dimensional. This '85 was fun!

Matt's Big 5-0 Birthday Bash (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Very dark gold almost amber color. Drank a small pour over 30 minutes. This was a lot of fun, in good shape and worrked quite well with the chess course - particularly the more creamy textured and fattier cheeses. The has a lighter weight to it, not as untuous or oily. I find a lot of botrytis spice character as opposed to some other notes. This has that spiced orange marmalade feel with dried apricot and a heavily liqueured spiced fruit cake, subltle honey and dried fruits. It is a bit more angular on the palate and the pairing elevates the wine.

Drank with Thanksgiving dessert. Surprising youthful for an '85. In that vein, this was a little too sweet and syrupy. Better on nights 2 and 3.
