  • Nose: Earthy, metallic, rose petals, dark fruits, cherry
Notes: quite a signature nose of Pansiot, the CC in the beginning was full of earthy and metallic notes which later moved on into attractive fruits and floral notes. I must say that the palate was weaker than I anticipated and the color suggests that it's not completely ready yet at this moment. Opened for a couples of hours and I don't think more improvement can be expected from this wine. I would think that this wine deserves another 5-6 years of cellaring before it can be enjoyed fully and it is indeed a little young today.

  • "Día de los Daddys" (Chicago, IL): Clasically-styled Burgundy, with a leaner profile, as typical for the vintage. A light touch here, with lovely 2008 aromatics. The fruit isn't as pronounced, but the tannins and acidity aren't as pronounced here that this feels like one of those poorly evolving 2008s (that said, I'm still in general a bearish on the vintage). This bottle, while maybe not displaying the full weight of a grand cru, is drinking really well right now, and I quite like where this has evolved right now.

  • Various red/dark berries, pure and modest flavours, smooth tannins, fresh acidity, a little creamy notes in finish. Balanced, good on freshness, but lacks concentration and length, disappointing as a grand cru, maybe just a unlucky bottle, I have another two bottles, will check later.

  • Small glass, brief note. Black cherry and berry with enough richness to balance the tannic structure. Very good concentration, good+ length. Impressive already, with upside from here.

  • HDH Dec auction trip/dinners at SKY and RPM Italian; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018: Liked this a lot – normally I find a lot of Charmes-Chambertin pretty underwhelming, but this one had the richness and breadth that spoke of a grand cru with lots of generous red and black fruit, earth, spice, and light floral scents all coming together in a polished medium weight package.
