Totally stunning wine, at an absolute peak of maturity. Essence of Mourvèdre - tree bark, ash, earth, intense core of ripe red plums. Involving and feral nose. The palate is evolved, but at a point of maturity where the bottle age and fruit are in a perfect balance. As ever, totally tannic, but this structural element adds clarity to the finish, and certainly offers a huge note of complexity to the palate. The wine opens beautifully, and it is clear that bottles in this condition will last for at least a decade. (The cork looked liked it had just been bottled six months ago!). I know this is just the regular cuvée, but the wine was a revelation tonight.

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): From Magnum. Saw this on the table at the end of the night and was curious, so just grabbed literally one quick taste. In pretty good shape, rustic, darker fruits, dried herbs.

Interesting wine, not as bretty as other bottles but nice tobacco, leather and herbs on the nose. Medium bodied and rustic with moderate fruit, blood and iron. A bit past peak but holding well. 88 points

Last bottle from a case of six. Now at age 24, slightly past its peak but still enjoyable. Some dark fruit (slightly fading) bot lots of secondary aromas: bay leaf, underbrush, tobacco, leather, garrigue herbs, etc. Definitely not a wine one would serve to a non-connoisseur: multi-faceted and demanding at every stage of its life. Drink up and decant very carefully - this one has huge amounts of fine sediments.

Eclectic Older Wines from the Rare Wine Company with Mannie Berk (The Morris, San Francisco): Full ruby. Funk and blue/blackberry. Meaty feel. Good sweet fruit, some herbs, and excellent grip. Very alive and does not come across as tainted.
