Decanted and drunk over 1.5 hours. Autumnal wine. Nose and mouth have a slightly brownish tinge, with notes of compost behind the lovely garrigue. Excellent bottle. Tannins have fully melted, leaving fine layered structure behind. I'll drink remaining bottles slowly over the next 3 years
This wine was double-decanted, initially through Vinturi, followed by three hours in decanter prior to funneling back into the cleaned bottle. It was then presented in double-blind fashion to our Friday tasting group. My taste was unblinded. Medium-to-deep garnet in color, it continues to show excellent depth, complexity and ripeness. Kirsch, blood orange, mulling spice, sage and garrigue aromas precede a fresh, full-bodied, silky-textured palate with comparable flavors. The tannins are soft and the alcohol (listed as 14%) is nicely integrated. Very long on the finish, this is a wine which is in its sweet spot. It should last longer than I previously predicted. Drink now-2020.

(Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape) The Clos des Papes was jammy and sweet, seemingly mature…already? Sweet and sweeter, I felt like this was a spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down. Not sure what all the fuss is about.
(Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape) Very slightly cloudy cherry red color with pale meniscus; bretty, herbaceous, olive nose; somewhat mature, stemmy, herbaceous, dried berry, pepper and smoke palate; medium finish 91+ pts.
(Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape) A fine, cherry red hue. On the nose there are some dark, brooding fruits, smoky-roasted cherries, but otherwise this wine is giving little away at the moment. It has a great presence on the palate, with lots of weight and a firm, grippy, masculine tannic structure. Very decent acidity too. Richly endowed, youthful but withdrawn, with a composition bordering on monolithic, this wine needs time, but it was worthwhile taking this first look.
(Clos des Papes) Great nose of crushed hot pebbles, cherry liquor, kirsch, wild berries, smoke, little bit of an exotic tomato hint. Elegant but with sweet concentrated fruit and tremendous ripeness. All perfectly ripe red fruits. Seamless yet spreading. Great acid and serious stony complex minerals on the finish. As Yaacov has repeatedly said this is one of the most Burgundian CDP's out there. This was singing on this particular night.
