Châteauneuf-du-Pape with my boy!; 4/15/2024-4/17/2024 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône, France): Suffered frost on their Syrah so less of the Syrah this year, more of a red fruit profile. Fairly vitamin and wound up at first, mineral, tighter. Vincent calls this wine "easier" as he refers to the croquante/crunchy, juicy red fruit palate. Nice snap, firm and peppery, clearly lighter and brighter and quickly opens in the glass.

Floral, red fruit on the nose, heady and perfumed, ripe fruit on the palate, raspberries and brambles with a herbal edge, supple tannins, fragrant with violets. Love Clos de Papes, amazing how they make a 15% wine dance like this. WOrth keeping but hard to resist now.

Flowers, licorice, kirsch, black raspberries, underbrush and peppery spices fill the perfume. Elegantly styled, refined, soft and supple, with silky tannins, freshness, and lift in the kirsch, black raspberry, cherry and spice filled palate. The wine is a blend of 58% Grenache, 32% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah and the remaining 5% consists of various, allowable grape varieties. The grapes are as always 100% destemmed. The production is quite low this year at only 18 hectoliters per hectare due to hail. This is also why you see less Mourvedre in the blend than usual. The wine is 15.1% ABV, but you do not sense any heat. Drink from 2024-2036.

Tasted at Fruits of the Vine 2024 at Edition Hotel Singapore. Not able to write down tasting notes, only rating score.
