The interesting thing about Petite Sirah (Durif) is that it doesn't change much as it ages, unlike Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. It retains its color and fruit; only the tannins diminish somewhat. This is very much true to form. It could be 5, 10, 15 or 20 years old, and it would pretty much taste the same, which means very good tho rarely great. Certainly still in excellent shape.

While this may have lost a little of the fresh fruit present years ago, this still has plenty of life. Deep purple, full mouth-feel with loads of dark fruit.

Decanted 45 min, minimal sediment. Deep garnet. Nice nose of mineral and red/purple fruit. Velvety mouthfeel with moderate smooth tannins. Moderate finish. Hope I didn't open too early - dinner still 2 hours away.

Bill's Monthly Lunch - June 2013 (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – Ripe nose of blueberry and blackberry that had me thinking Australian. Sweeter purple fruit on the palate with a grapey and dark raspberry finish. Tannins are fully resolved with decent acidity and a medium length finish. Some warmth on the palate with a smooth mouthfeel. This is a dark, ripe and sweeter wine that’s ready to drink now. Good.
