  • Faint purple with garnet even a touch brown edges.

Nose is old leather, tobacco, and mint with a little black licorice. The French barnyard funk and a little baking ingredients sweetness. Kind of a dusty crushed gravel as well.

Light mouthfeel that is still smooth, with pretty good dryness still and lingering cigar smoke. Surprisingly there is a little bit of faint strawberry added into the mix with a nice savory quality. This is actually very well balanced for its age. It is definitely in the final phase of enjoyment but there is a lot of flavor left still.

  • Reddish garnet though not as much garnet as I’d have imagined. I was 3 years old in 1993 so I am pretty fired up for this as this is one of my favorite wineries.

Nose: old leather, licorice liqueur, strong sediment minerality, sage, definitely a distant ripe blackberry, kind of a forest floor vibe also. Eucalyptus, menthol, and kind of a flowery essence that I can’t quite put my finger on. Kind of a sweet balsamic too.

Light bodied, still pretty dry considering the age! A lot of the same notes as the nose but this is surprisingly still going to last a few more years. The lasting finish is a combo of black licorice, smoked pipe tobacco, and old leather. This is incredibly smooth and has a blackberry/licorice liqueur aspect without feeling like a syrup. This still has some smoke in the finish and is just fantastic all the way around. So much to offer here and still packed with layers

This is worth having for the experience alone

  • PNP. Cork wet halfway up but otherwise sound. Color garnet with bricking edges. Minty blueberry currant nose. Swishing shows dense fruit, light acidity and silky tannins. Sipping shows super density and mostly primary fruit flavors with a med length balanced finish and silky tannin. This has years ahead but is really in an amazing place tonight - if you prefer your wine more primary pull it out now.
with air and a couple of hours this showed some fresh carved pumpkin and tobacco notes. retained its density and soft finish....really a great example of cali cab and a nice parting gift from Kongsgaard.
After being open on the counter for 36 hrs it is still hanging in...

  • From a perfectly stored bottle, this was a nicely balanced, mostly mature bottle. Fairly lean, with a cool menthol streak. Almost Bordeaux-like. Nice.

  • 2008 Packer - Viking Game (Minnesota): Similar notes to 6/2008, although more approachable immediately after opening. Still dark ruby with no signs of bricking. Could't get a good read on the nose with all the other cooking / candle aromas around the house. The palate has a nice flavor profile with a dose of cassis, but still leaves me wanting for more depth. Hint of green, but nothing offputting. With a fair amount of remaining acidity and tannins, this drinks much younger than a 15 year old Napa Cab. Improved significantly with time open, and was the #2 cab of the evening. As long as the fruit holds up, this has some years left. My last bottle.
