Nose: Mint, blackberry, dark plum and some garden notes. Potting soil and leather. Palate: Attack of blackberry and mint that is reminiscent of a Heitz Martha's vineyard, followed by currant, violets and cedar. Finish: long and minty with more secondary leather and soil notes.
I believe it has surpassed the 1985 at this point, and is on an upward trajectory. Nice Phelps Insignia from the earlier days.

Enjoyable, deeply-pitched blueberry and blackberry, still lavishly fruited but tempered by cedar and bay leaf. More tannic than you might imagine after the nose. Showing very well.

Blind Flights with Boston Dinner Club: Soaring nose of blackberry, cherry, currant, cedar, mint and eucalyptus. Vivid fruits are balanced by classic old Napa dusty leather, wood and herb garden notes. Color incredible from the disc inward.
Palate is so fresh and focused. Really well focused blackberry, dark cherry, mint and cocoa notes. Cedary wood, florals and herb garden support freshness, while leathery and dusty notes show its age.
Finish is super detailed and fresh with great dark fruit, graphite and eucalyptus notes.
The unexpected star of the show. I really thought that this would be a tight race between the Insignia and the Eisele, but the Insignia dealt a TKO right out of the gate. The other striking note is that the Eisele and Backus are often core parts of the Insignia, so to see the sum of the parts be so much grander was incredible tonight.
Served these blind, and many thought this to be a top vintage of Heitz Martha's

Still going strong. Decanted for 3 hours & it was smooth, still inky, blueberries. Fantastic wine. Was not expecting there to be much left but it surprised.
