Deep, opaque colour. Fine nose as it opened and warmed. Very rich, fine fruit with spices and great complexity from the high quality fruit and extended ageing in oak. Very long but it continued to open seductively in the glass, becoming even richer. A (generous) tasting sample was simply not enough! Expensive, of course and, in the real world, the Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde from the same vintage is perhaps better value but this is a great wine. 2015 Athens Wine Event (Aleria Restaurant, Athens): Tasted Blind and was opened a good 2 hours before. Syrah for sure & mocha nose, smoky, roast meat, young wine still almost with an 09 bdx style of being approachable young. Mocha on palate too. Well extracted and need its time to shed its puppy fat (hopefully) but this is not yet there. Good wine still shame on the mocha side which dominates at this stage. 90
EVS -- Cote Rotie Tasting: Touch of oak on the nose, and then just red, fragrant fruit. Sexy, young and gorgeous; cassis, pure wild berries, hint of mint, dark chocolate, plum. Thought of Macchiole. Touch tannic in the finish. Absolutely delicious now. Very not-Rotie but irresistible now.
