  • Maroon in color, some clear aging

Cellar, wet football shoe, mature strawberries, red tea, root fruits, tar

Dry, tight, some tannins, the fruit is a little bit tried out, medium+ length, still a tad of red fruit

  • Purchased off the wine list at the Post Hotel Dining Room. Last bottle. Popped and poured. Medium ruby color with feathering at the edges. Nose of musk combined with full blown violets, cherry blossom, plum pits, scintillating acrid red berry. Beautifully detailed palate with layers of velvet-textured mulberry, red raspberry, iron particles, and red earth enlivened by steely acidity and still firm tannin. Long finish of iron-laden red mulberry fruit anchored in stone. A wine of impeccable balance.

  • I tasted this wine from three magnums over the last 1-2 years and the tasting notes have it pretty well bracketed. My experience was good to not so good. At its worst this wine contained too much tannin and too little fruit or other flavors and came over unbalanced with a healthy dose of oak to add to the muddiness. The best bottle, however, met a reasonable balance especially after a couple hours of air and was perfectly enjoyable. In the end if you are sensitive to '98 tannin and the arguably heavy hardwood hand of Bouchard, stay away.

  • Too much oak

  • Very tight cork, pain in the ass to get out, stuck to the glass and soaked about three-quarters of the way up, makes me a little suspicious of heat damage. Slow-oxed about three hours and followed over three more. Nose is a bit hide-and-seek, but when it comes through it's of dried flowers and baked raspberries with a tart, sharp edge. Maturing palate, with tart black cherry and plum, a bit of mushroomy savoriness and a hint of forest floor. Light to medium bodied, starts well on the palate but the finish is drying. Intellectually interesting but could use a little more meat on its skeletal frame.
