At the peak and alas my last bottle of 6. Splendid showing off all its charms, complexities and poetry. Fully open, much more than expected after one hour in the decanter, and that openness seemed quite full, but the texture is suave and, thank goodness, this is medium bodied beauty but in a super talkative mood, telling us all its stories. Superb and fully enjoyed.

Aging well. Notes of mushroom, cigar box and sous-bois. Red fruit still alive on the palate. Medium plus acidity. Medium grip and long finish. Very good bottle.

Cherry, raspberry, decayed roses; firm, substantial, developed, aged; some fruit remaining but sous bois and notes of chocolate more dominant on the long gradual graceful finish; excellent; very enjoyable

This is very good, and hard as it is for me to believe that a Volnay would need more than 14 years to develop, this one does. I think it has an upside to 93 or 94 in 5+ years. It's pretty, but still remarkably primary at this stage, without much complexity. It has a little stuffing though, and I think it will stretch out and add charm in the next few years.

Pure fruit, and feels like a winner with a bit more age, but right now a bit austere and not as giving even with a fair amount of air. My last note caught this in a better place, but I still like this wine and feel like it has a solid future ahead of it. Not sure I would pay market price for it based on this note but an enjoyable wine. A-

(Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot) Raspberry, caramel nose; tight, tart cherry, mineral palate; medium-plus finish
(Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot) Medium cherry red color; tart cherry nose with reduction; rounded tart cherry, with good acidity, needs time; medium finish
(Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot) A little softer, red fruits and faintly floral. In the mouth too, soft and a little silky with sweet fruit. There’s a little burst of complexity in the mid-palate before you are hit by some astringent tannin. I feel the oak showing more on the grainy texture than the aromas or flavours.
