  This was fully mature but really in perfect shape. There was just the last fading wisps of fruit left, an acidity that was in perfect balance, and really delicate aromatics. I poured this for Cornelius at Rieslingfeier and he said it was a good but not great vintage. According to David Schildknecht, he was under the impression that Helmut regarded it higher than 1990. Either way, this was really beautiful and in perfect, perfect shape.

  Fine, yellow fruit, petrol, honey, wet rocks, little saltiness and green herbs in an elegant, almost reluctant, precise and steely wine.
  Almost dry on the palate and really opening up with air.
  Lean, but complex. Beautiful!

Baked apples, , almost like an overcooked tart, but on the palate, still with good acidity, some lime, fresher apples, fine minerality, and decent balance, but certainly tired and lacking balance. Interesting and good, but more academically interesting than much else. 84
