Medium-deep golden yellow color. The nose feels very similar to the vintage 1994 that was tasted alongside - only a bit sweeter and more open and expressive. Aromas of stony minerality, apple jam, some lemon marmalade, a little bit of wizened peach, a developed hint of cooked cream and a touch of vanilla custard. The wine is broad and moderately full-bodied but also very crisp and lively on the palate with semi-dry flavors of lemon marmalade, some stone dust, a little bit of developed creamy character, a hint of rich apple and a touch of wizened white peach. The wine is very racy with its bracing acidity that lends the wine wonderful focus and freshness. The finish is crisp, lively and racy with complex and moderately long flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, some wet stone minerality, a little bit of peachy fruit and a hint of developed creamy richness along with a touch of mature vanilla character.

The wine is surprisingly similar to the vintage 1994 with its bracing acidity and relatively youthful character. Overall this vintage feels a bit drier with slightly more developed overall taste - especially with those creamy and almost vanilla-like tones a Riesling can develop with age. Nevertheless, due to its still quite tightly-knit and relatively youthful feel, I can imagine this wine will keep - if not develop - for years more. Very harmonious and immensely pleasurable. Highly recommended.
