Popped this a few months ago after having held onto it for far too long. One of those wines I just never got around to drinking in the 8 years I had it. However, on opening in 2019 it was in remarkably good shape, full of weight and oiliness and good acidity. A little tired, but not nearly to the extent I was expecting.

French Wine at Lunch, and with the World Cup final: I just adore this - incredibly complex, rich textured (lots of glycerol here I think), with a strong herbal/medicinal aspect as well as the fruit: mint in particular. Seems to be holding up perfectly to me, although is clearly a mature wine.

Q3 - 2018 Tasting - Whites - “ABC” Anything but Chardonnay (New York, NY): 4/18 white wines tasted double blind. The palate on this had tropical fruit and grapefruit pith - seemed quite lean with high acidity. I suspect this was in contrast to the Beaucastel VV served directly before which had a really rich mouthfeel. My guess here was Sauv Blanc from Loire - so totally off - which goes to show how much I suck at blind tasting since I drink a lot of white Rhones.

Anything But (still) Chardonnay - ABC wines | Q3 Wine Club (The Apt): Wine #4: I have never had one of these aged so was pretty excited to try. I think there could have been some seepage. The top of the cork was black and it was a bit wet. Still, this seemed to drink very well if a touch light. It's got a hint of the sweet as well. Very good acidity and very focused although with a faded style. Long finish. It's more subtle than the VV which came before and I think in some ways overpowered it a bit. As our own wines were single blind and we brought the Rayas, I actually guessed correctly on this one. (3 pennies)
