Nice dark coloring when poured. Lots of black fruit on the nose. the cassis, plum and blackberry came through. Before finishing, a green unripe backbone appeared.

I first tasted this 2 years ago, and was determined to wait a couple of years before revisiting. It is moving at a glacial pace and probably needs another 2 or 3 years to hit its prime drinking window. However, that said, it is already enjoyable with a few hours in the decanter. What does bode well this time is that you can start to glimpse the potential quality promised on release. The nose has mellowed and now is rich with raspberry and chocolate, and has a right bank ripeness. The palate is still primary but there is an exceptional depth with multi-layered notes. The finish is more forward, and is pushing 60 seconds. However, the tannin makes in difficult to fully appreciate. The 2001 is magnificent and I hope that this has the potential to be even better, and warrant another couple of points. A post script; saved a small glass for the next day and it had improved significantly and I upped the rating by a point. Hopefully this bodes well for the future.

nicely aged with the proverbial cornucopia of fruit. lots of tobacco on the finish, as if i were chewing on a cigar. very bordeaux.

Leathery, balsamic and sanguine. Tamed tannins, fresh acidity, a great Bordeaux. 95.
