  • Had over two nights, very nice both nights and after some time open its nose develops more fully, showing herbs (sage, thyme?), dry forest, slight resin and cedar, and maybe raspberry. Medium-bodied, "smooth" with fine but still a bit drying tannins but a nice finish.

  • Year after year the Benedictine monks of the Muri-Gries Monastery (city of Bozen / originally from the Swiss town of Muri / Aargau canton) produce one of the best Lagrein wines of the Südtirol region. The “Abtei Riserva” was matured for 22 months in barriques. Decanted: two hours prior to tasting. Deep dark garnet red in color and a complex nose of elderberry, plum, tobacco, new leather and a hint of pencil lead. The palate shows a robust but also a surprisingly polished and elegant wine, full of lush cherry fruit, with a great structure and perfectly integrated tannins. Convincing aftertaste. Already highly enjoyable now, but will surely improve with a few more years in the bottle.

  • Dark purple color. Definitely another step up from the "regular" Lagrein of this producer. Beautiful nose of blackberries, some raspberries, licorice, cherries and some ceder wood. It has a medium-full body, medium+ but silky tannin and a medium+ acidity. Very long finish. This is an impressive Lagrein with pretty complex aromatic profile and a beautiful structure adding grip.
