A sensational Beze from Jadot in a vintage that they did so well. The fruit is still quite fresh and buoyant and is laced with intense spice and meat that makes the wine so compelling and complex. Structure and freshness provide for a long, engaging palate.

Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center and orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose displayed blackberries, clove, tan spices, cherries, and minerals.
In the mouth, this was rich and ripe (for a pinot) with just a bit of toughness in the texture. It had rounded tannin and very good acidity.
This was a very nice bottle. While certainly enjoyable now, it is possible that this gets better with 5-10 more years in the cellar. It will always remain a bit more on the "dark" side of the fruit spectrum.

Tasted blind, this wine had a medium red center with light puce rims. The medium intensity nose put forth cola, rhubarb, clove, and forest floor notes.
In the mouth, this wine had good richness, a big frame (acidity and tannin), and great length. The fruit had that old vine intensity that made it feel a bit rustic.
This wine was a blockbuster that was really just starting to come around. While I doubt it will ever be refined and sophisticated, it was very attractive in its masculine style.
This wine continued to improve in the glass after 6 hours of air. It will probably be best in another 10-30 years (2030-2050) after some of the edges round out. It probably has a point of upside.

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction (Formento's - Chicago IL): Ripe black fruit with roasted meat, leather hints and fully savory spice. Similar flavors, just coming across as slightly riper and less complex, but still great. Very good weight and length, clearly showing its Grand Cru density. I have had this wine many times through the years, and today's showing is the best I can ever recall.

Wines tasted at Zachy's Chicago Watch Party (Formentos): Side by side with the '88. This was head and shoulders the better wine. Crazy nose with rich, mature fruit that is loaded with meat and spice. The palate is terrific concentration. Rich, round fruit is still fresh though very complex. Great refined structure. Will hold for 10+ years easily.
