Swirling, sniffing and sipping with Hooters’ gals while snacking on grilled chicken nachos. The ladies, of vintage circa 2000, giggled when observing so terribly astutely, that they were younger than the wine. I was in a mood 😇

Unmistakably H-B. Dried cork set the alarm bells ringing but happily I needn’t be worried. Stunning nose, After Eight and a fresh sous bois. Longish finish. You know you are drinking something serious. Colour, a sharp shimmering crimson.
An hour decant (possibly needs a touch longer), and served at 17/18 degrees which is spot on. Elegant and and integrated tannin strength means it will last a little longer.....but why wait? Delicious. A worthy follow up to the stratospheric case of ‘89 Bahans which is now an empty OWC. Good luck if you can find some of either.
Just wondering if I am being mean giving it 93. Now edited to 94 to give the 30 year old Duchess it’s fair score.

colour still vigorous. Glorious nose, warm bruit brick and earth, impecble lift and balance. Beautiful elegance and balance on palate , this bottle perhaps lacking a bit of energy on the finish but still delicious

A bit of bricking to pretty translucent red with a touch of orange. Initial nose of sandalwood, moist earth, shitake mushrooms. Moist earth and forest floor to start, which gives way to some plum, mushroom, cedar, tobacco. As others have said, a great mouthfeel - velvety and lush. This is a great wine.

This wine is drinking beautifully right now. Subtle notes of fruit and mushrooms on the nose. Soft tannins and cherry flavors. Very enjoyable.
