I poured a glass via Coravin and let it decant in the glass for 30 minutes. Ruby color, hints of chocolate, blackberry, vanilla, caramel, and licorice. Tannins were mellow (I have seen other reviews describe them as heavy), medium acidity and alcohol, and a beautiful finish. I have a few more bottles that I will keep but am not sure the wine has a drink date out to 2035.

Hat auch dekantiert noch eine Weile gebraucht, um sich zu öffnen, dann gut trinkbar, aber noch länger haltbar! Tolle Mischung aus Eleganz und bordeauxtypisch Stall.

Pulled from cellar mid-afternoon to stand up and warm up. Decanted through a Rabbit aerator to catch the (significant) sediment. Drank from 30 minutes to an hour and a half after decanting. I think allowing to come up to temp helped here, as did the air, but it didn't need hours. Right out of the bottle the wine was tight and tart. Much less barnyard than previous bottle, and blew off quickly. Nose opened up nicely but not sure the taste quite lived up to it. Fruit was subdued, with strong undertones of flint and gravel, but better balance than previous bottle. Blind I would have sworn the Cabernet here was of the Franc variety.

The wine was not flawed or corked, but it was just trying too hard to tell you it was from Bordeaux (almost manufactured flavor profile). Loads of tobacco & earth and lacked a center core of fruit. It's bigger sister the 2012 Montrose is significantly better than this wine and is already drinking great now. I won't be buying the '12 La Dame again.
I thought I would revisit this wine after about six months. This wine just does not need decanting. It is absolutely at its best immediately after you take out the cork. This is very much a pop and pour wine and I am ALL ABOUT decanting for hours and hours (just read my notes) but it just doesn’t need it!
It is a lovely wine and good value, but I wonder why it declines so quickly after an hour or so of air. Most likely due to 2012 being a very forward vintage and the fact this is a second wine.
