I expected somewhat more from this 2nd wine of Chateau Montrose, even though 2011 was a mediocre vintage. Dark red, cherries and black fruit in the nose. Medium bodied with silky tannins.

Dark garnet color. Mildly Smokey nose with intense red berries and a bit of coffee. Sweet intense red berries and thick, rich tannins; this should age another two decades easily. Really good.

Attractive blackberry fruit, good weight and elegance. The structure is robust, giving a slightly austere finish that the fruit does not completely cover. Some complexity. Wait for another 5 years, then will last forever. Doubt it will ever become charming.

Pop and pour yesterday. Still late primary phase. On the nose: cedar, blackberry, spice and a touch of mint. On the palate: lovely acidity, excellent density; surprisingly hi-toned fruit for a St. Estephe, but solid dark earth and a touch of charcoal. Finishes with soft, finely grained tannin. Will be nice when this shows a bit more secondary, but the tannin seems like it will disappear before that.
