Purchased from a European cellar. This bottle was pristine and drank beautifully. Popped and poured. Stood up well in a lineup with some serious super seconds ('85 Pichon Lalande and '85 LLC amongst others). This had 95% of the stuffing I'd expect from the grand vin and that stunning St. Estephe structure that I love so much from Montrose.

Very moist cork made me pine for my Durand, but got it out in two pieces. Very dark and youthful color, with almost no bricking. Pleasant but hardly stunning nose of red fruit, steak tartare, fresh mushrooms, and a bit of soy that was the wine's only real indication of its age. It was on the palate that this wine shone. Excellent texture with gentle tannins showing up only on the finish; flavors of red and black fruits, tobacco and a captivating spiciness. Certainly at peak but this should still give pleasure for another 5-10 years. This is on par with many mid-tier crus classés.

Surprisingly flavorful with notes of black cherry, plum, cassis, and saddle leather. Nice color, long finish and smooth tannins. I have a lot of '89 Bordeauxs in my cellar and this one has held up the best.

Licorice, tobacco, earth and dark fruit. At its peak now. Drink up. Likely to start declining from here in the next 2-3 years.
