This blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carménère was tasted from a bottle that had been purchased upon release and pristinely cellared. Decanted off of its substantial sediment and serially sampled over five hours, it is medium-to-deep garnet in color and serves up a bouquet of black fruits, dark chocolate, cigar tobacco, graphite, black tea, baking spices and aged leather. Medium-to-full-bodied, low in acidity, seamlessly alcoholic (13%) and with silky residual tannins, it delivers flavors congruent with the aromas. Layered and dense on the mid-palate, it concludes with a lengthy finish. Fully mature and clearly on plateau, this is an absolute joy to drink. Be sure to decant it off of its sediment and give it an hour or more in carafe. Drink now-2030.

CdB MN Spring Event (Minneapolis Club, Mpls, MN): Very dark red/purple color. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. Splash double decanted and slow-O for 2 hours. CS55, M39, CF3, PV2, C1. Dried earth, dried wood, dark fruits, cassis, pencil lead on the nose. The palate shows an interesting dichotomy of ripeness while still displaying a green streak in the middle. There's plenty of glycerin that helps counter the wood, deeper and fuller than the even more austere '06.

Open and very ready. Secondary, with warm tobacco, black cherry, hope chest, pencil lead and chocolate shavings. A medium to long finish, with a full body and slight cottony tannins. Plush, yet still shows finesse. Not shy, which is typical of the vintage, yet retains elegance. Drink now - 2028.

Really good, still delivering lots of flavour and a reasonably long finish for a 20 year-old bottle from a vintage not known for staying power. Drink up!
