Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • Decanted five hours. Smelled great when decanting, still some fruit in there. Smelled great later too with truffle and wet soil and dried leafy notes on the nose. Balanced and still a strong sense of structure. The wine takes on a roasty and almost balsamic note on the palate, after another hour. This was lovely with food and a nice old Nebbiolo experience. Much better than the last time I had this vintage, but still, not a memorable wine.

  • The wine is not showing anything special at this point. Decanted almost 5 hours before drinking. The color is interesting - like flat Dr Pepper - dark with orang-y reddish rims, very much opaque. And the aromas and flavors come off much that same way - thick and blocky, mostly one-note, without depth or nuance. Enjoyable in its way, and we did enjoy it, but not a great old Nebbiolo by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Another dud from this cellar purchase from Chambers. Like the rest, this is not overtly "cooked" or maderized, but lifeless and dull, likely from years of poor cellaring.
