  • Blend of 85% Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Deep garnet coloured with a dark, pronounced nose of black fruit aromas along with tar and charcoal consistent with the flavours on the palate. Nicely balanced and persistent throughout. Very long and intriguing finish.

  • K&L Wine Merchants Special Rioja Tasting - Cune/Contino (K&L Wine Merchants(Redwood City, CA)): Brick red color with aromatic berry, earth, tobacco, mushroom aromas. On the palate , it medium-bodied with soft well integrated tannins, and sour cherry, tobacco and spice flavors. Long finish. 13.5% alcohol

  • Ordered with our tasting menu at Akelare. The nose was rather restrained but had hints of licquorice, faint strawberries, tobacco and some other typical older Rioja wines. For the first 45 minutes or so, palate still had some fresh strawberry and cherries - which was slightly surprising, and although this was overtaken eventually by a more musty earth tone and minerality, it was generally good for the first hour. Drink up though!

  • Bottle at akelarre.
Dark brick red with pale red rim.
Hints of a sweet perfume of cherries and flowers but fades quite quickly. Then the leathery savory flavors set in.soy, sweet potato.
With extended airing there is a little more sight of the ghost of the fruit and dried flower.
Palate is still fresh and powerful. Slightly rustic with tannins starting to soften. Core of tight fruit, leather, sweet potato. Alcohol sticks out and reminds me of vodka, but not unenjoyable.
