Colour shows significant browning. Nose of dirty leather, barnyard, and cherry stem, with a touch of raspberry jam in the background. Palate shows a huge savoury flavour of freshly-turned dry brown earth, with fruit flavours (raspberry, brown apple, lemon) firmly relegated to the background. The earthiness is big and mouth-filling, but the wine is light-bodied, with fractured tannins, finishing with smooth, pleasantly sour acidity. Definitely on its last legs: it looked tired when first poured, opened up nicely, then soon faded. It was only good for a few minutes, and even then, only if you like elderly wines.

Garnet red, with a light rim. Some sign of suspended sediment, but still bright. An elegant, perfumed nose of cherry and red fruit with earthy, spice and leather notes, rich and long with a firm tannic grip. Very Burgundian in style. Has aged beautifully, although past its peak with the fruit starting to fade. Nevertheless, excellent and very rewarding of the cellaring. I am sad it is my last bottle of this vintage.

I don't know what those fools at the Wine Spectator were smoking. This is a lovely wine. Earthy and smoky notes on the nose are fabulous. Palate is clean with a definite balance between the dry cherries and a middle-of-the-road tannic structure. Has more fruit than the latest trend would indicate, but this only puts the wine into the category I most appreciate. This wine might be a little heavy on the price, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would buy it again.

Not too surprisingly, almost tawny and only a little red left. Let open for 2 hours. Fascinating, complex aromas - all pleasing. Spicy cherries, cinnamon, almond extract, a little bacon fat, lemon butter. Rich plum and rhubarb fruit and black pepper crosses the tastebuds. Big body, juicy acidity, forgotton tannins. I'm also getting a good asian vegetable salad on the bouquet. What a match for heavily seasoned leg-of-lamb! I am duly impressed (3+13+18+8) = 92
