  • WhiskySomm comes into town pt. 1 (Oma's Hideaway, Portland OR): This was flowing and mature right away with caramel notes, red apples, pears, creamed peach, custard, yellow flowers, nectarines, and some honeydew tones. This is deep and expressive as it warms up just slightly while showing off plenty of fruit to compliment the maturing tones. The feel is Light bodied with crisp, high acidity. There is a plushness and refined nature to this that is extremely pleasing. This is in about as perfect of a spot as I can imagine and is a real joy to drink!

  • 7,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Intense, luminous neon yellow color. Concentrated, complex and somewhat developed nose with pronounced exotic spice notes of saffron and some aniseed, a little bit of honey, light fennel tones, a hint of pineapple and a touch of smoky minerality. The wine is broad, yet only light-to-medium-bodied and remarkably weightless on the palate with beautifully developed and quite sweet flavors of saffron, key lime, some beeswax, a little bit of lemon marmalade, light honeyed tones, light smoky tones, a mineral hint of wet stones and a touch of dried stone fruits. The wine is very high in acidity, which offsets nicely some of the sweetness and lends great freshness to the palate. The finish is quite long, complex and gentle with medium-sweet flavors of honey, some lemon marmalade, a little bit of saffron, light mineral notes of wet stones, a hint of dried pineapple and a touch of sweet peachy fruit.

A beautiful and harmonious Prüm Riesling that is in a beautiful spot now - the wine is very open and shows some nicely developed tones - yet it still feels like the wine is going to continue on an upward trajectory, so most likely this will keep easily for another two decades. Drink or keep. Beautiful stuff.

  • 7,5% alcohol.

Intense, luminous neon yellow color. Intense and surprisingly dry nose with concentrated aromas of smoke, ripe apples, some developed citrus zest character, a little bit of mature Riesling's creaminess, a hint of pineapple and an attractive whiff of developed waxy character. The wine is sweet, lively and pretty racy on the palate with medium body and complex, intense flavors of tart citrus fruits, some beeswax, a little bit of honey, a hint of sweet yellow apple and a touch of wet stone minerality. Overall the wine is concentrated and precise like a laser beam with its bright acid structure. The finish is pure, ripe and lively with intense, focused and rather crisp flavors of tart citrus fruits like key lime and lemon, some beeswax and developed waxy character, a little bit of dried pineapple, a hint of very ripe apricot and a touch of perfumed floral character.

A very beautiful, vibrant and thoroughly pristine Spätlese with surprisingly pronounced sweetness and remarkably high-toned structure to set off that said sweetness. As opposed to the usual Prüm style, i.e. the wines age at a glacial pace, this wine shows subtle signs of development - mainly some subtle creaminess Riesling often develops with age. However, the wine is still quite youthful and will be going up for many more years. Drink or keep - this wine will be very rewarding, no matter what you do.

  • Leo's Blind Tasting Group - June '16 edition (Back Forty West, NYC): Another great showing. Pretty much everything I want from a Prüm Spätlese at this age - the fruit's still very bright and youthful, and it's surrounded by all sorts of savoury smoky, fusel, lemon cream, and lightly honeyed flavours. Moderately sweet and very light on its feet with bright acidity balancing it well, and finishing with impressive length.

  • Mild petrol (for JJ) and lovely honey and citrus on the nose. Probably a declassified Auslese since there was a touch of botrytis. Fresh and lively and a perfect match to the beet salad at Sons and Daughters.
